If we ever get a new 2D Metroid that is ;___;
I dunno, AM2R is generally pretty good. But there are its faults to it. I don't think it'll take much to top it.
I dread anything from Retro Studios, other than a new Metroid game.
I thought it was genuine. I laughed out of sheer surprise myself that they would pull that at a ZELDA interview.
Plus he pocketed that same paper during the interview. He could have simply left it on the table and continued the interview If he truly thought nothing of the series.

What's the story behind this?
Did you see that recent gameinformer video with Miyamoto and Anouma? They laughed at the 2D Metroid mention in the cup game they played. Tells you what the state of the series is.
I really want a new Metroid OP, I really do. 3D perferably or 2D as well but I dunno if they even care about it that much anymore.
I quite like AM2R. I'd argue it's better than many non-fan games out there and could be one of my favorites of 2016. Having the Metroid art and music is acing on the cake as I'm a sucker for it. Furthermore, it also did some cool things, such as the music or having non-square maps.
That said.
It's nowhere near the quality of the official 2D Metroid games. It's bogged down by many small things and by the end of the day Nintendo should not even consider making it their own as some seem to want.
It shouldn't be hard to top it. But let's see if they can.
It's definitely better than the original Metroid 2, which looks and plays like shit. Unfortunately, Nintendo isn't going to make another 2D Metroid, so it'll probably be the last Metroid of it's kind.I quite like AM2R. I saw that and was baffled they would even joke like that. A new Metroid isn't happening, so why are they continuing to annoy fans with things like that?
Even as a harmless joke, they know the series is in a bad place now. Better to not discuss it at all until you have something tangible to show off.
Keep in mind no handheld release, and the last time we got Metroid before Federation Force was Other M, which ended up being not what most wanted and developed by an odd choice of a dev.Metroid fans are weird. It skips a single gen (you know, like it did between Super and Metroid Prime) and people think it's dead.
LOL I'm not even sure how anyone who has played Federation Force can call it "darned near perfect." Even people who love the game.More like can the next IP stealing indie game be as good as the darned near perfect Federation Force?

Ummm...
Ben Reeves from Game Informer made a joke and they laughed.
Some of you are being ridiculous.
Plus, like Zelda and Mario, Metroid essentially split into two separate series (2D and 3D) with the release of Prime. However, while Nintendo has kept releasing both 2D and 3D Mario and Zelda games, there hasn't been a 2D Metroid since 2004 and that was a remake.
What's the story behind this?
Aonuma put the note in his pocket... So there is a chance!
Whats happening here? What were they playing? So they just laughed the "2D Metroid Please" request off and moved on?
I feel like this could just be shortened to "2D Metroid Please" followed by them laughing.
It was a quick gag in Game Informer's (I think?) 51 questions about Breath of the Wild. It's actually pretty entertaining and only 4 and a half minutes. I'd recommend it.What's the story behind this?

I'm kind of surprised people actually think Nintendo will stop making Metroid games. They were never an F-Zero-like series, Metroid has always been a top tier Nintendo franchise.
They aren't going to live off making just Mario, Zelda and second tier stuff like Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing forever.
I do think people are getting super presumptuous about a specifically 2D Metroid though.
Whatever. I'll take what I can get and pound for pound I'd argue AM2R is a better game than Zero Mission and Fusion. Remake or fan game be damned.I enjoyed AM2R but it is not a replacement for an authentic Nintendo made 2D Metroid game.

Indeed. Fire Emblem is by far IntSys' biggest own IP and has been for a very long time. Animal Crossing is a long running highly successful IP by the section which Eguchi heads. Both are pretty much ensured to get new entries that way.Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing aren't second tier IP and they're both bigger and more important to Nintendo than Metroid.

I do think Nintendo will make another mainline Metroid game though and I think it will be announced this year.
