Who will buy Zelda BOTW WiiU ?

What system are you buying Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for?

Thought it had one, guess not. The idea was pretty handy in XCX, though I suppose not critical.

It did. There were map controls on the Gamepad and inventory management as well. Then during development the Switch became a factor and.... well.... ~platform parity~

Buying for Switch only. This isn't a Twilight Princess situation where the content of the version for the older hardware is very different.

I'm getting it digitally on Wii U and on Switch (for the comfort). I'm also getting one Switch copy from 7net (for the thingy), one Wii U copy from Amazon (for the stickers), and one copy of the DCE from the Nintendo Store (for the everything). I've ordered the standalone Master Sword thing and the software-less Special Edition set too. Where is my poll? (・д・)チッ

Good luck waiting a long time.

Isn't it just a given that it will take a long time to optimise the game for the emulator?

Maybe, maybe not. But that reply was a sour grapes one.

My personal opinion is that Cemu team will put everything behind making Zelda work as fast as possible. Especially since they have a Patreon and Zelda would be the best advertisement for their emulator.

edit: if I remember well, Zelda SS was running pretty quickly on Dolphin after launch.

I will go with the WiiU version.

It will suck to play a 720p game on my 4K TV, but 400€ for the Switch + Zelda is simply too much...

Anyone know if the WiiU version will also have the dual-audio?

I´m a bit sour about this, it´s pretty evident that the Sheikah slate was designed with the gamepad in mind. I was hoping this game to use the gamepad in awesome ways, just like SS did with motion controls. But now we´ll never know what we´ve missed :(

Sorry, been looking for an answer but can't seem to find it. I will be playing Zelda almost exclusively on either the Switch itself or the Wii U gamepad (as the kids and/or wife take over the TV)

What sort of performance difference should I expect in this case? I know Switch Zelda will run better docked on the TV but what will the difference be when played offsceen?

I have a Switch preorder but not sure whether I can justify it yet and this will probably make my mind up?

You're looking at a 480p resolution on a low quality screen with the WiiU gamepad, compared to a 720p high quality screen with the Switch. Colours and visuals will look much better, with the Switch.

In addition, impressions from Switch events have said that BotW actually runs slightly smoother in handheld mode on the Switch, compared to docked. Apparently running at 720p, and not 900p when docked means fewer frame drops. However, those impressions were from a non final build, so that might not be the case when it's released.

If it's decent I'll get the Wii U version. I'm not looking to pick a Switch up at launch but if the versions have vast differences I'll buy it on the Switch in the future.

Thanks! For some reason I was thinking the Wii U pad was 720p, therefore would be similar to the Switch when played off-TV.

No, but the game will still be rendered at 720p and downscaled to 480p. The result is obviosuly not as sharp/detailed as native 720p, but you get good anti-aliasing in the process instead.

I only have a Wii U by happenstance and don't even use it, but I might grab BotW if its received well because I haven't played a Zelda game since my fourth run of Twilight Princess on GameCube.

It's actually quite sad that I haven't touched my favourite video game series for 9 years or more.

Just like how I buy multi-plat games on PC, I want the best version I can because I have enough disposable income to own multiple platforms.

Even though I own a WiiU, I'll be getting a Switch day one for that better performance on Zelda, and I do truly love the idea of taking it on the go. The Switch is a portable with non-garbage controllers attached, and it can easily connect to my big-screen TV...which is what I've been wanting for years.

And now, with Expansion Pass, who buy o Wii U will need to stay with that dead machine until the year's end if they want to play the new content.

More and more, Switch is the true option here.

Well I bought a Wii U for it so probably that

In truth, I bought a Wii U to be a zelda machine as I've only ever played OOT

I have a bit of catching up to do :)

Should be a fun couple of months

Or you could get the game and the season pass on Wii U for the price of just the game on Switch.

I was going to buy it for the Wii U, but then I learned apparently you need like 3 gigs of space or something free on your Wii U and I'm not going to buy a new hard drive just for the game, my Wii U is almost full because of Nintendo's poor choices in internal hard drive options. Not gonna get a hard drive for one game.

Also I just learned about the
shrine thing
so my interest in the game dropped dramatically after that. I'll probably pick it up whenever I get a Switch, which won't be any time soon at all.

I still need to 100% the following:

Bayonetta 2
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Genei Ibun Roku #FE
Hyrule Warriors
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Olympic Winter Games 2014
Mario Party 10
New Super Mario Bros. U
Nintendo Land
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Pikmin 3
Pokken Tournament
Super Mario Maker
Zero: Nuregarasu no Miko

and the Wii U is still my primary internet browser and media app device so it's not going anywhere soon. Hell, the switch probably won't earn an hdmi input on my tv until sometime in 2018.

Still getting a Wii U copy here. Might just double dip for it next year when I pick up a Switch for FE, SMT and Xenoblade 2.
