The fact that Obama didn't do anything about this is incredibly disappointing.

The current president openly impeding the ascension of his successor (or going as far as to attempt prosecuting) would be a really, really, bad look for democracy. The passing of the torch is a precedent that is bigger than Trump.

How does this end up? Is it even possible for this GOP congress to impeach Trump under any circumstances at all?
Yes,Having the president of the United States be heavily involved in the biggest scandal in craps US history is something no one can over look.

Yes, if enough shit goes down they will throw him right under the bus to try to save 2018. The question is how much.

If elections seem to be on the line, they will do what needs done.

They're absolute cowards, so it basically comes down to whether we reach the point when the scandals tank Trump's popularity so bad that they decide they have more to lose by not impeaching him.

What if....

Trump honestly did not know about this, and has just been a true puppet of everyone around him?

Just saying hypothetical things. That would be shit because he may remain President.

He's never stopped defending Russia. He never says a bad word about them but has no problem shitting on allies.

This is big. Depending on the transcripts of their conversations, this has the potential to be HUGE. If hacking the DNC comes up at all, heads are going to roll. At that point, the trick will be to connect it to Trump.

Nixon fell because it was connected to him, whilst someone like Regan was never impeached because a connection could not reasonably be made (even though every person with half a brain knew he was deep in Iran-Contra).

We'll see where this goes. Part of me thinks there's no way his campaign could be that stupid and inept, but then I remember this is Trump we are talking about.

Unless Trump himself ordered the hack, at most he was being a political shitbag. He all but admitted outright that he was close with Russia and no one cared. That he was in constant contact should be no surprise at all.

This might dog his presidency for a few years, get put into the spotlight from time to time, but ultimately nothing will come of it. Republicans largely won't fight it and the Dems will be off crying in some corner for the next 8 years. His supporters will still support him and the opposition will yell and scream, but not show up to vote.

So long as he stays mostly conservative and doesn't do anything blatantly illegal, like literal murder, his presidency is going to be pretty bulletproof. It might get embroiled in scandal, but like the campaign for presidency, it will have little to no effect.

During the Reagan and Nixon eras, people still gave a shit what the President did or didn't do regardless of party.

It'll be interesting to see what it does to his approval. I'm sure it can still go a bit lower, but we're at the point where soon, Trump could murder someone and not has his approval go any lower (I think that is around 25-30%). Right now Trump is at 40%.

Which honestly is not much better than the alternative, because it makes him look like the most ill-informed, incompetent moron to ever enter the White House that his team had such deep connections with Russia and he was somehow completely oblivious to it.

really I can't imagine a situation where a bunch of puppet masters don't turn and all together try to blame the puppet.

it's way better than turning against each other.

We already know it's Drumpf though.

Did I miss a reference?
Back in 2008, the main writer and story guy for Bionicle revealed that Makuta, the main villain since 2001... Was actually named Teridax.

It's kinda like when people learned Palpatine's first name was Sheev. Except this was about characters for a LEGO toyline. And everybody just kept calling him Makuta anyway.

That is the Nixon Defence. It works for about 18 months while your inner circle are taken down one by one and eventually you resign.

I don't think he has to personally order the attack. He did have to collude with Russia with the attack and there has to be strong evidence that this is the case.

Yes, during the Reagan and Nixon era's, people were less partisan, but that doesn't automatically make Trump bulletproof. If this ends up going in the direction of personal Trump collusion, either the GOP impeaches him, or Democrat's take both houses and impeaches him.

CNN guest: "We're seeing a clear and present danger"

Well, we have a maniacal president issuing executive orders without remorse. All these nonsensical patriot games that these politicians and journalists play make us weaker against all enemies. We're living in an age we're we are witnessing the sum of all fears that previous generations have grown up with. It's time for honest politicians and members of the government to go into the storm on a search and destroy for all corrupt and treasonous elements in the government. The American people have a debt of honor that can never be repaid. The threat vector has never been higher. The Cardinal of the Kremlin is locked on the American government in such an insidious way. The compromised elements of this government must be taken out, dead or alive.
