New Super Bomberman R footage - appears 60 fps?

I really think this game should've been a sprite-based, budget-priced title. $10-20 with awesome looking sprites in wide-screen HD, 60 fps. Everyone would be happy. It'd play better, be cheaper, have a bigger install base, and arguably even look better!
I don't know, it would look like every one of the older games then.
I know I am in the minority but I like the modern look of the game.

I actually kinda like it too, but what about Bomberman demands a bigger budget and higher price? I feel like this is the perfect impulse buy game that almost everyone with a Switch should own. Pricing it the same as Zelda won't achieve that goal. If this was $20 or less and the visuals matched that price, it'd easily be an impulse buy game.

Bomberman is awesome, I want as many people in on the awesomeness as possible. I fear that this game will not sell as well as it should due to weird and bold decision making regarding its budget and price

Watch the Zelda:BOTW segment in the same video file. It appears 60fps now too.

If you look closely and inspect each frame of Bomberman (and Zelda) I noticed there are blurred mid-frames. This doesn't happen in Mario Kart 8DX being 60fps.

I could be wrong and there is a motion blur effect happening in Bomberman that I'm mistaking as frame interpolation, but I don't think so.

Look at the leftmost monitor though, it only changes every two frames.

So if there's some frame fuckery going on it's because there's frame interpolation on the TV. Makes no sense that the menu would be 30 and in game 60, so that's probably the case then.

Your thoughts all make sense but I think it'll do fine based on not much else on the shelves at launch and the return of one of gaming's taken-for-granted greats.

I mentioned this in the Gamestop thread -- I think people will be surprised by Bomberman's sales.

Bomberman is currently #6 on Amazon's best selling games right now.

Bomberman is a VERY demanding game, it'll be quite the technical achievement if they can hold 60fps. Did someone say system seller?

No, Zelda does not look like 60fps in that video at all. There's a clear distinction between that and say Arms which is 60fps. Bomberman I'm a bit unsure since I haven't looked at it on a bigger screen, but at a glance I'm inclined to lean more towards 60 right now based off initial impressions, but I'll have to take a closer look on a better display.

If there are 60 distinct images from the same second of gameplay footage then that means that the game is 60 frames per second.

You can play youtube videos frame by frame by pausing them and pressing the period or comma keys to go forwards or backwards one frame. Hopefully this is enough to convince people.

OH MY GOD, I had no idea you could do this! O_o

Anyway, I tried that myself and within 10 or so frames of the 60fps version, all had different positions, none were repeated or blended.

It does look like it jumps from 30 to 60 at times though. I know for a fact it was 30 when I played it back on Jan 28th in the Toronto event.

The video itself is shot at 30FPS. You can tell from when the camera is moving, even though YouTube says it's 60.

Yeah. It looks like frame interpolation from 30 fps to 60 fps to me.

But hey, who knows, maybe I'll be surprised.

EDIT: Wait what, no. The guy also filmed Zelda in the exact same video (see this timestamp: https://youtu.be/-J9HTzEEePE?t=10m1s), and it's clearly 30 fps in his video. So yeah, Bomberman is actually running at 60 fps then. Great!

I can't see FPS well. It's one of my weaknesses. Or perhaps it's an advantage?

I can notice if FPS changes during the game, but locked at 30 or 60 it's hard for me to tell unless they are side by side.

From this video the game looks pretty smooth. Whatever frame rate it is will be fine as long as it plays well.

This doesn't seem any different from other videos that has a 720p and up that have 60 tacked on even though it really isn't.

You can step through the frames with the keyboard shortcut posted earlier to count how many distinct frames were recorded in a given second.

Unless you mean the video was captured in 30fps but then some post-processing inserts extra in between? Is that possible?

I played on that exact same couch, and I can definitely say this was REALLY fun to play local multiplayer with. We each had a joy con. Nevermind 1-2 Switch, this is the definitive party game at launch.

Well, the video has BOTW played back at 60fps, and because it's 30fps there is a weird frame blurring i between frames. It's hard to tell whether that blur in Bomberman is from frame interpolation (ghosting) or motion blur.

duhhhh Ill just connect my switch to my computer while playing the game and then watch the youtube livestream of it with 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. Problem solved.

It's pretty enough but I'm not sure if that slightly tilted camera might make it a bit tricky for tight manoeuvres around the 'back' of blocks. Not so bothered about framerate, just slight disappointment

Yeah, look at this portion of the same video, showing Zelda. That game is definitely 30fps yet it updates every frame in this 60fps video. The time-stamp below shows the ghosting of the frame-interpolation with the shrapnel from the explosion (press full-stop/period to advance frame-by-frame).

https://youtu.be/-J9HTzEEePE?t=653

There's similar ghosting in the Bomberman segment. It's harder to tell because the arena is stationary but it's likely 30fps with the same effect smoothing out the in-between frames.

You guys can wait a couple of weeks and the price will be lower. Point is, a new Bomberman is coming out and it looks good. I don't think it's particularly overpriced but value is in the eye of the beholder.

preach

Some GAFers get so caught up in examining leaves that they can't appreciate the tree.

That's a good metaphor.
or is it a proverb?
I'm gonna steal that from you minus the GAFer part.

But yea, I'm pretty excited for this game. I'm gonna hold out until a price drop though.

BOTW is not being played back at 60fps. It's clearly 30fps in the video. Look at Mario Kart or Arms by comparison. The difference between the two is obvious in the framerate.

Never heard of the expression, "Can't see the forest for the trees"?
