17-minute-long IGN look at Mass Effect Andromeda (Peebee Loyalty Mission SPOILERS)

I'd actually like to see the game running on PS4 and One. Particularly One, so I can know what it'll look like when I play it at 900P and 30 FPS.

Guess I'll probably have to wait till the EA Access Trial. Damn the wait is going to suck. Can't wait to get back into the ME Universe and have that feeling of new ME content/discovery for 50-60 hours :D (or longer?)

Oh, me, me, me! I'll make one!

somethingsomething mass effect field

I have to imagine that most people see a Mass Effect thread on GAF and actively avoid it now. The over analyzing of each frame and nitpicking is getting really tired. I feel bad for anyone from the dev teams to who have to come here and read this stuff.

EDIT: After looking at the post above me, I'm not excusing unfinished animations. That just looks bad, lol.

You could just tell that character was going to be an annoying twat when they called it "Peebee".

Let's hope none of the others are this verbose.

You could tell she was going to be annoying when Mac Walters said this

While she’s super smart, she isn’t so keen on formalities or social niceties, which can make her come off as very blunt and forward. “Her mind goes quickly as does her mouth,” Walters says laughing. “It’s hard keeping up with her.” In fact when she meets you, she just goes up and tackles Ryder.

Yeah, it's gotta be harsh. I'm crossing my fingers they make good. There's very little I want more in video games, right now, than a repair of the bad rep from ME3.

Scanning/detective mode is something that's perplexing to me, as it's widely adopted in games, but I can't think of a time I ever enjoyed it.

People analysing and bashing the game almost frame by frame makes this game look like its dead on arrival.

I've never felt so uncomfortable browsing gaf as reading through Mass Effect threads.

Yeah... and now we're at the point where a stupid gif is once again posted every page, and it's not even from the video the thread is about.
*sigh*

As for the video, I'm still hyped but I think the dude who played had a very boring playstyle.
And the game looks really good.

Thanks! And like I said, looks fine.

I wonder if we'll see it posted 1,000 times throughout every ME thread because it fits an agenda. I'd guess not.

How that is fine? Avenger is literally hovering in air because she isn't holding it from the grip.

I imagine devs have fixed that animation rigging since, but in that video it doesn't look fine.

In the previous videos people complained that the game was no longer cover based and was too twitch happy. In this video people complain that the player was using cover and wasnt playing in an exciting style.

Bioware is not going to win.

Bioware is not going to win.

Not from videos, probably. They'll win if the game is good when people play it.

Silly obvious statement, I know.

god why does this game look like total ass

I swear to god they have no idea what they're doing re: character animation

Female Ryder has permanent Dreamworks face

Yep, looks like good ol' Mass Effect to me. Can't wait until release, gonna pre-order this weekend and pickup Horizon while I wait.

I'm hoping that this video is just a poor representation of the final product, because nothing about that seemed to captivate me in any arresting way. I can deal with FemRyder's oddly wooden face and I can just about contain Peebee's incessant chatter just below my threshold level. The very average combat I can perhaps just chalk up to the relative skill of the player. But the longer the video went on, the more and more I just wish the game would stop throwing streams of rudimentary instructions at the player as if it's presuming we're a bunch of simpletons. It's perfectly fine to allow the player some method of agency, to discover points of interest and to work out how to get past some pedestrian obstacles on their own, BioWare. Here's hoping this is indeed an exception and not the rule.

It looks alright, sans the facial animations. It's definitely a shinier new Mass Effect and as a fan of the series there's nothing in the video that particularly deters me in a sufficiently notable way, but nothing about the marketing so far has given me much cause for real excitement beyond my already tempered expectations of believing this will just be roughly more of the same (again, not necessarily a bad things at all) but not a substantial leap forward for the series.

Wow, the in mission dialogue is so mechanical. Obviously an actor reading lines one by one, and not as part of a conversation. Some of the inflection is totally off.

Everything they show does nothing for me yet I'm still getting it, I'm closely moving towards canceling and waiting for even more of a discount. I don't know what went wrong:/

I think the scanning not only looks good, but seems immersive in this sci fi yarn. Although, if every scan follows an ingame tutorial prompt, it's gonna get old fast. OTOH, if i can find "hidden" or easter egg, or lore stuff while scanning that will be cool.

It's the shittiest and most over used crutch in games. It's extremely rare when it's ever implemented well.

I wonder if the implemantation of such feature had a deep impact during the analysis of games like... lets say, Horizon Zero Dawn.

Uh. Not impressed. Especially after playing a bit of HZD.

Game is stellar from what I saw (didn't play it, just like MEA). But is also culprint of sins like janky/static dialogue scenes.

Didn't notice the gun thing and never would have, but yes definitely because Biotics! LoL I feel lucky I'm not the Sherlock Holmes many of you are when it comes to this stuff.

I just thought the overall facial animation and body movement looked fine as well as Peebee's reaction which isn't in the gif. Looked like Mass Effect.

Man, that automatic cover stuff doesn't seem to be working great.

We're just going to refer to those Observers as Engineers... right?

I can't believe this is out in like 3 weeks, going by media coverage it feels like it's months out

Mirror's Edge Catalyst was similar. Left until the last day or two to figure out what the hell the gameplay loop actually was. It was sort of insane: no one knew what to expect from the product.

To be fair, this campaign is better than MEC's.

Thanks! And like I said, looks fine.

"Looks fine"? "Agenda"?

I am sorry, but seriously, that Avenger was flying in the air! Is that the kind of thing you'd expect a developer like Bioware to pull especially in the new entry of arguably their biggest franchise?

Like, come on.

This game is going to have much bigger problems than the lack of contact on a punch that you can only notice if it's put into slow motion. It doesn't need to be "excused" because it doesn't matter, it's completely irrelevant.

Of course it matters because it pictures the kind of mindset the developer has for this game, in that it's okay to do a half-assed job in certain parts just because of... what? It's worrying. If even such a simple thing can be missed, what other things that they just simply don't pay attention to?

Well, there are GIFs from the video this thread is about also.

For me animation jank like that floating Avenger isn't game breaking, just something to chuckle at. ME3 is filled with oddball animation errors, even after all patches and DLC's. It isn't accident that people expect animation jank from BW titles.

Didn't notice the flying gun. I do think some have an obvious agenda, but I'll own up and say that scene wasn't technically "fine" as I said before. Sorry about that.

That's how I feel about it as well. These kind of things have been there all along, but Bioware was mostly in gamers' good graces till after ME3 (at that point their one slip up was DA2, but people didn't absolutely hate them for it) They weren't obsessed over these kind of janky things back then like they are now. If they were it was in an quirky, endearing way and not a "can't take this game seriously/what a joke of a studio" way.

the handholdy dialouge is really cringe, really hope the whole game isnt this bad
other than that it looked good

My personal favorite, the ol' Sticky Avenger. It's been five years since ME3 and they're still doing shit we laughed at in ME1. How the hell is "model with default gun" still a thing in 2017?

It's not going to kill my enjoyment of the game (I'm happy just to romp around in space shooting at aliens/robots), but it's a bit absurd that things like this still pop up, and twice as absurd that they decided to go with this in their marketing materials.
