The NPCs are so charming. I love their expressive animations. Its also cool to see them have a schedule. I keep walking around and see NPCs do things differently or see them with other characters depending on the time of day.

Question about first village:
Is the rain scripted when you get to Kakariko village? I assumed it was just random but then the convo with the guy outside of Impa's house gives me the option to ask him if he;s drenched.

I don't believe it rained for me.

As for the dialogue, yeah, the game takes dynamic and systemic events to a whole new level. It's crazy how many situations it accounts for.

It wasn't for me. It was
mid day and sunny. NPCs react to the time of day and weather. I was at another village and it started raining, so people ran to cover. One NPC even refused to give me a sidequest because it was raining lol

Pretty sure it isn't. The game has a bunch of.context sensitive dialogue

Lol so there's an npc patrolling a bridge right off the plateau. After talking with him I decided to jump off the bridge into the water below.

He started freaking out, basically talking me out of suicide. Come down off that ledge, he said. Youve got a good life, he said. Too funny

Lmao thats awesome. I rested by the fire near the bridge and when it was morning, he was there chilling with me, asking me to hang out a little longer. Poor guy has a lonely job lol

No way. Are you serious? Holy crap as if I couldn't be any more impressed with this game.

I have no idea how I'll see everything. I have to be around every NPC during every time of day and weather to make sure I didnt miss anything. I should have bought the guide lol

made it past the demo area that i played at e3 last night. decided to play with just joycons and holy shit it feels so good. i really missed how comfortable that feels.

So the original Zelda for NES is one of my favorite games ever. And iirc BOTW was said to be inspired by that game. Haven't played yet but would those that have say that comparison holds true?

Played for about an hour. Needed to take a break for food.

Notes:
-I LOVE the future/fantasy aesthetic. Post-sci-fi is <3.
-No boring story! No tutorials walking you through doing everything! Goddammit it feels great to explore the game mechanics organically.
-Great combat and game mechanics right out of the gate.
-No waypoints on the screen is pretty great. I may start turning them off in other games.
-No WiiU special functionality is a bummer. I mean you have a tablet in the game for chrissakes. I switched to off-TV mode when doing gyro but it didn't feel very natural.
-Nintendo's developers are really working against the power of the console here. The game would really benefit from just a modest spec bump. The aliasing is bothering me more than the framerate at the moment, but we'll see.
-I hope they patch in support for more WiiU controllers. I love the Classic Controller Pro. Don't want to buy a WiiU Pro controller, this game is all I'd use it for.

Feeling good about it so far. Feels familiar, but I'm only a little bit into the game. This is the first game I've paid $60 for in a long time.

Out of all of the Zelda games I've played, BOTW feels most like the original NES game to me. The comparisons are valid in some ways. The other games in the series are much more guided affairs. However, this really is its own game, so it's hard to say if you'll like it 100%. Gameplay wise, it's a total re-think of Zelda.

Somebody can confirm more definitively than me, but I didn't see one in the Switch eshop when I was checking out my friend's Switch yesterday
Ok, thank you. Well, currently I would be able to access a Wii U demo of the game anyway, I doubt Nintendo will issue such.

Definetly, its like you take the first Zelda and combine with the Wind Waker to me.

You will get lost, battle diffivult enemies and solve puzzles on shrines with
original zelda music

Can we talk about how amazing the weather effects are in this game?!?

Light rain, heavy rain, thunderstorms and everything reacts to the raindrops, getting wet and showing the impact of each raindrop. The sound is incredible too - it's very atmospheric in surround sound :)

The time-of-day changes and the atmospheric conditions like mist/fog are incredible as well.

How could anyone hate on the graphics in this game?

It's gorgeous.

Yes.

This game has the best feeling of exploration and adventure of any game that I have played. You really feel a strong sense of accomplishment and it happens frequently.

If you are into adventure games it is really something special.

There are definitely a lot of nods to Zelda 1. Also, past the third Zelda game, (Link to the Past,) the series became a lot more structured in terms of it's storytelling. This game is much more open, which is in line with the Original Zelda.

I don't know what to do in the shrine with the water slide and balls. I see the correct ball on the top but I have no idea how to move it.

Oh my god fighting that mini boss thing to get 20 shock arrows was really really hard because I only had two handed weapons.

This game is wonderful.

This game just feels absolutely fantastic. Always something new to find and I've been pretty stunned by how well crafted all the little side areas are. The sheer amount of options you have to tackle any sort of situation is really fun to mess around with. Got into a fight with some blue bokoblins while a little under equipped and switched to the Korok Leaf and blew them into the river.

Octoroks are no joke in this game. My first encounter with them was a group of three in a river and found myself overwhelmed and ran while they continued to basically artillery bomb me. It's so great to get a Zelda game that isn't afraid to hurt you and let you get lost.

How are you guys liking the weapon system? It feels too odd getting an awesome sword after fighting a strong enemy only to break it a few uses later :/

Too much.

Also when do you get a
bigger inventory?

Use the freeze power on the waterfall behind it to knock it off the platform, then continue using that power to guide it down to the bottom. I had to time stop it once it hit the bottom of the hill and then I struck it a few times to change its course to go into the hole.

Ok, so this fight against this enemy in the coliseum ruins. Do I get a really fucking good reward for this? Because I'm going up against it with 4 hearts, no stamina upgrades, it's killing me in one bit from every attack ranged and up close, my shield if fucking worthless against it and my attacks barely do damage. Is it even possible to beat this thing with what I have, and is it even worh it if I do?

There is a big korok near
kakariko village
that can upgrade your inventory with korok seeds.

Meet Hestu the giant Korok. You use your Korok seeds to upgrade new slots in your melee weapon and bow inventory.

I finished the plateau yesterday, but only found a nice pair of pants. Was there a traveler's shirt there too that I missed? I'm getting tired of the starting shirt.

I'm already starting to forget some of the stuff learned early on. When you successfully parry and get the Flurry option, are you just hitting it once or smashing the Y button? I can't quite tell the proper way to get the most out of this mechanic.

I keep instinctively holding R1 to use binocs as if I'm playing MGSV. Appropriately, too; even as the games are very different, something about the act of playing it reminds me more of MGSV than anything else.

(I need to remember the correct button, though. I've come so close to throwing weapons off a cliff.)

Yeah I think more than a lot of the games cited as reference points for this, I feel like a lot of it is most definitely inspired by MGSV, there's an incredibly familiar feeling to that game I get while playing this.

The Weapons it drops are really freaking cool for this stage in the game. Lynels just might be one of my favorite enemies EVER. Legit one of most incredibly well designed enemies I've ever seen.

BotW does a really bad job of telling you when your ready to go on a quest. For example I got invited to travel to
Zora's domain
and I just did it with my four hearts. And now I'm half way there 45 minutes later and everything one shots me and all I can do is run past all the enemies all the way there... I'd have greatly preferred to have been warned this is a level 20 quest when I am only level 5. But I get that Nintendo is never gonna do that... so I end up taking on higher level stuff and just having to run past everything which is not how I want to play the game at all. Very dumb. I'd rather have spent my 45 minutes doing more shrines and travelled there when I had more hearts.

At times it looks beautiful at times it looks hideous, the effects are fine but the system limitations are clearly at show here

:P doesn't take away much from the game but at times i been impressed both in a good and bad way :O

Guys.
The shrine with the many orange holes on the floor which light up in blue when you place the 5 available balls in the hole... what's the deal? How do you find a logical solution to find out where you should place the balls? There's also a moving platform going up but I dunno what to do up there, maybe looks at the tiles from above?

Wow, this actually looks and runs very well in handheld mode. I might end up spending more time with this game undocked than I expected.
