Played for about an hour. Needed to take a break for food.
Notes:
-I LOVE the future/fantasy aesthetic. Post-sci-fi is <3.
-No boring story! No tutorials walking you through doing everything! Goddammit it feels great to explore the game mechanics organically.
-Great combat and game mechanics right out of the gate.
-No waypoints on the screen is pretty great. I may start turning them off in other games.
-No WiiU special functionality is a bummer. I mean you have a tablet in the game for chrissakes. I switched to off-TV mode when doing gyro but it didn't feel very natural.
-Nintendo's developers are really working against the power of the console here. The game would really benefit from just a modest spec bump. The aliasing is bothering me more than the framerate at the moment, but we'll see.
-I hope they patch in support for more WiiU controllers. I love the Classic Controller Pro. Don't want to buy a WiiU Pro controller, this game is all I'd use it for.
Feeling good about it so far. Feels familiar, but I'm only a little bit into the game. This is the first game I've paid $60 for in a long time.
So the original Zelda for NES is one of my favorite games ever. And iirc BOTW was said to be inspired by that game. Haven't played yet but would those that have say that comparison holds true?
Out of all of the Zelda games I've played, BOTW feels most like the original NES game to me. The comparisons are valid in some ways. The other games in the series are much more guided affairs. However, this really is its own game, so it's hard to say if you'll like it 100%. Gameplay wise, it's a total re-think of Zelda.
