The way I have been approaching enemy camps and messing with the guards, weapons, ai, environment, horse, and weather systems is so much like mgsv, it's not even funny. Especially when being able to go anywhere you see and approach areas as you see fit. All my opinion, of course.

It's also similar to the Far Cry approach, especially Far Cry Primal (hunting and wildlife, attacking camps, different factions, animal riding, use of the environement, day/night cycle that changes the gameplay, similar weapons (bombs+fire arrows+arrows+different melee weapons etc)

Does anyone know how I can get that chest in the shire with the wind fan blowing?

Also where can you get more bomb arrows, I only have one left and need more.

What I did is jumped on top of the lamp thing to the left in the screen shot. From there I jumped forward and use the parasail..as it crossed over it hit the wind and went up a little. It was enough to get me to reach the chest. It did take a few tries to get on top of the lamp thing, but it worked.

This is my favorite view so far

Is there a freaking way (wiiu, maybe via homebrew?) to shut off the beeping shrine radar?

So. Fucking. Annoying.

The worst is being near a shrine while low on life BEEP BEEEP BEP BEP BEP BBBBBEP

Ok I say, fuck it let's go HUD-less and...
ARRRGH! Anouma wtf mate u takin' the piss?!

So guys I don't think this is a spoiler but the answer might be.

Can you tell me what the spinning fans that I've found two of so far are? Or put it this way, will I find out later?

The standard HUD is so useless so far (5h of playtime). The Pro just does the job, minimap is useless and kills exploration, cold meter is up when you have your buffs, you can know the hour of the day by looking at the lighting, control scheme is easy.. The hearts are the only thing that is really necessary, although I would have liked an option to only see them when you're losing life, because I only have 3 for now, but when I'll have 20 it'll take to much screen space most of the time...

I dont want to bash MGS V, I really liked that game but no, its just not the same

He doesn't say that it is the same, you shoudl read more carefully.

This is so wrong I'm not sure how you would argue that. Nothing about moving from one place to another in MGSV is rewarding or actually intuitive compared to most open-world games, nevermind BotW. MGSV falls utterly flat on its face as an open-world game.

This game has some of the most realistic beaches I've ever seen. The way the rocks come jutt out of the sand, and the occasional patches of grass are just perfectly placed.

ARRRGH!

Go into the map screen and push Y to turn it off.

Yeah, true. However, with the stealth and the 3rd person camera, I've been getting mgsv vibes while playing and I mean that as a compliment. People saying none of this has been done before need to expand their horizons. Same with those that can't admit the game has flaws.

Whats the deal with the Pinwheels?! I'm seeing them over so surely there they do something right?

You can open the map and press Y to completely disable the radar but you can't turn off the sound and keep the radar up.

GOD DAMNIT

Necluda Island is fucking killing me. Had 2 of the balls set in place, then went to clear the last one on the hill near the giant. Was killing the last bokoblin and accidentally hit an electric chuchu jelly with my branch. Having to fucking restart everytime you die on this shitty island AND listen to the prologue is killing me slowly.

The game tells you that you can turn it off as soon as you get the sensor. How did you miss that?
Edit, oh you meant just the sound. nope, its all or nothing

Just got out from Great Plateau, most enemies kill me with only 1-2 hits D:

I missed a better armor, I guess

Nah, better armor is slow to come for most folks. You just have to adjust and be more cautious after leaving. Once you hit a village you will be able to improve thata bit. Good armor is scarce in general compared to most games.

Save bokoblin horns.

They're for Koroks. If you stand by them balloons pop up nearby. If you shoot the balloons, you get a Korok Seed.

The lesson is - if something looks weird it's probably a Korok.

I really wish I could use the Wii U gamepad for Van Rudania. Keep having to access the menu.

I wish someone told me you shoot the pinwheels with arrows to start Korok puzzles, I thought they were just decoration.

The first one I found did that, but each subsequent one did absolutely nothing and I did everything I could think of to them (except blow them with a leaf attack).

None of those things are unique to MGSV in particular. If you've played Assassin's Creed, recent Far Cry games, and RDR, you'll find a lot of that stuff there. The AI between MGSV and BotW is really, really, really different though, so I'm not sure why -that- is being compared.

There are general similarities - a large desolate empty world, generally hostile environment, pockets of enemy "camps" which might have goodies if you wipe them out. But I think even there, there's a huge difference between how MGSV handles it and how BotW does. In MGSV you are never handicapped by equipment. Resupply, backup, etc are always a call away. You get to pick exactly what you want to go into any encounter. MGSV gives you a lot of different toys to play with and doesn't limit your options at any given time. BotW limits your choices by what is available, but ensures that almost anything you do try is viable and feels more like a survival game.

The horse mechanic comparison is also totally superficial. In MGSV you have a horse as a vehicle. There's no deeper gameplay element there. It's like RDR. A means of transport. BotW makes catching horses, taming them, stabling them, and remember where you left your horses part of the game world. If BotW were like MGSV, you would find Epona early in the game, form a spirit connection, and be able to teleport him anywhere like you teleport yourself.

I put one upgrade into stamina so far and haven't really encountered anything that needs more than that... has anyone found that it's worth choosing stamina over hearts?

Im going hearts all the way, there are foods you can cook to restore stamina while in the middle of climbing or swimming.

Go into your map and turn that shit off

Go into the map screen and push Y to turn it off.

That's better, tho it sucks losing the visual cue as well...
But, yeah, THANKS
Playing mostly on the gamepad I didn't even see that shit.

Too bad you can't turn off the low-on-life sound, ugh I miss using Ocarina codes/cheats so much!
You also can't turn off subs but likely there's so few voice-acted cutscenes...

Eventide island = one of the best moments in Zelda history, imo. So exhilarating and unique. Really was not expecting any of that. I needed to utilize everything I have learned thus far. The final fight w/
Hinox
took me about ten minutes of running around, bombing it, and
trying to shoot its eye (but it started to cover it with its hand haha)

This is so wrong considering it has one of the greatest horses in videogames. I don't think we should derail the thread anymore but if you guys can't see how similar messing with the AI and enemy encampments are, especially now there is steath, alert states and environmental hazzards, I don't know what else to say. No more mgs talk now. Sorry.

So the glowing Sheikah circles on the ground - is there something you have to do to activate them? I just got a shrine quest for one in
Zora's Domain

Thanks, but it's too late. I brought him to the stable on the road to Kakariko. After a good 30 solid minutes of fucking TENSE mountain climbing (on top of a horse...) and enemy dodging. And one moment where I hopped off to feed him apples and he ran away for a second :p

It was all worth it. I named him Bardock in the end.

I don't think I'm ever gonna need another horse. Just a mountain of meat

Is this a special horse?

You didn't have to kill it BTW. You could have shot it in the eye, grabbed the orb, and run. I waited until I finished and had all my stuff before killing it.

Also, I loved that island. I just wish they had taken away my abilities too. Bombs were OP.

I agree but anyone who has played MGSV will have already experienced a lot of these things

MGS V was a great sandbox that I spent probably 60-70 hours with. That being said, MGS V had its issues. Aside from the Kojima stuff, repetition with Chapter 2 and the ending and so forth, there were still limitations. Snake for better or worse, moved more realistically and couldn't scale a lot of stuff. Sure you could probably try to glitch yourself up a hill or something, but I remember spending a good hour one time trying to scale a hill and looking for an "entry point" into the mountain in the Afghanistan area. Also, to be honest, the open world itself felt way more limited; there were the enemy bases but otherwise it felt like the space was devoid of anything really interesting to do. Granted, I guess it was "realistic" in that it was a desert in Afghanistan and the jungle. That being said, by the end, the open-world in MGS V really didn't do much for me and it would've worked way better if it was more Peace Walker-ish.

The world in BOTW just feels more alive, and I am never devoid of interesting points. On my way to a mission, I'm distracted constantly by things that catch my eye which end up giving you some sort of reward for your exploration. Plus, traversal is limited only by your ingenuity; there's no "Snake isn't allowed to climb up that mountain just cuz" moments. If you can see it, you can literally climb there... it's amazingly liberating.

Yeah I agree. MGSV is pretty great as an open world game. I think BOTW beats in scope, but that doesn't mean it wasn't great.

Plus D-Horse handles a lot better than the horses in this game do IMO

Really? whaaat. I wish I had known that. Still, it was lots of fun.

Lol, you can't make that comment and then say no more derailing. Like others have said, MGS wasn't the first of its kind, and it certainly wasn't the best.

Really? whaaat. I wish I had known that. Still, it was lots of fun.
There was no way I was gonna legit kill it. There was a thunderstorm and the only wood weapons I had dealt 2 damage.

There's this trial quest that involves heat.. a lot of it. By the end of it, I wasn't even sure if I was doing anything by equipping heat-resist gear and eating heat-resist food. Just spammed consumables  Can anyone confirm if this is the intended solution (or just having more health) and my resistance actually meant squat or if there is some other way? Appreciate as vague an answer as possible!
