Not really, just speculation at this point. All we know is that it's open-world actionWhere is this talk of SuckerPunch making a SciFi game from? Is there evidence?

Exactly. Traversing an urban cyberpunk city with the InFamous traversal mechanics and powers... oh my.Just imagine if Sucker Punch's new IP is basically what Human Head's Prey 2 was...
Honestly, that feels like the type of game they would make given how great they are with combat and traversal mechanics.
Definitely. I think it's a space that can be explored more. Cyberpunk 2077 is probably going to be excellent, but who knows when that's coming out. Spring 2019 at the very earliest, I'd imagine.True, but I'd think that if ND and SP were both doing sci fi games, those would be the two options.
Also, I'm desperate for cyberpunk games. Detroit Become Human and Cyberpunk 2077 are cool, but I want more.
Now I'm going to be bummed if it's anything but that lolExactly. Traversing an urban cyberpunk city with the InFamous traversal mechanics and powers... oh my.
Death stranding is open world

Not first party, but Sony's really dropped the ball with regards to indie games recently. So many games are being announced for either Switch or X1 timed or full exclusives. I haven't seen much from Sony on this front in ages now.
I guess losing people like Shahid and Nick Suttner has hurt them in that regard.
Media Molecule has Dreams in the works. Not sure when the release date will be, so it's hard to say when their next game comes out, though if Dreams came out this year, I could see another game by 2019/2020.
Mm is also heavily part of Sony's ice team they aren't getting shut down.IF there's a next game for MM. When people ask what Sony studio could get shut down next, MM is the first that comes to mind for me because Dreams has bomb written all over it from a commercial standpoint. I would love to be wrong though because I really like MM.

Wasnt the dlc for bloodborne done by sony japan studio? Maybe that was a test. I could see them doing a sequel without involvement from miyazaki though obviously that would be a disappointment to some fans. I think sony could be doing a new ip with miyazaki and from but doing a bloodborne sequel internally. Just my guess.
Pretty thorough list, and it looks like Sony has a plethora of games to carry them to the end of the generation. I would like SP's game to release sooner rather than later, just so 2018 isn't so crowded with God of War, Spider-Man, etc. Before this my post, request for the OP: Tomorrow Children is misspelled under Sony Japan. And I guess Horizon can now be put into "PS4 games" and not current project. Once again, thanks for the thread!
So when Kojima eventually does go multiplatform with future titles does he take the modified Decima engine with him or does he restart from scratch?
I have a feeling if Death Stranding doesn't do well, or if kojima inevitably will go over-budget as he usually does - kojima productions might have to sell itself to Sony and become First-party.
Sony is just rubbing their hands. They want Kojima on-board as a first-party dev although kojima isnt in the mood to sign-up with a big corporation like Sony after the Konami debacle.
The reason I had the idea for this post is because they've revealed many new titles each E3 and PSX for the past several years, and I wonder how much more they have to reveal for the PS4, not PS5. It's a few years off, but it's that time of the generation where I wonder who's making stuff for this gen and who's making stuff for next.
I certainly hope there are many surprises at E3 as the last two have been wonderful, and PSX has also been fantastic.

Nice post but I think you're being way too optimistic with how many studios you think will fit another game in this gen, as it's not like all those studios are going to sit back and wait for the PS5 to come out before moving over to it. I think over the next couple of years we'll start to see some of their studios go dark for longer than we'd expect as they start prepping the move to PS5. And as much as I loved those last couple of years on the PS3, I hope Sony manages the transition a bit better this time.
Also, based on their last two games, I'm expecting TLOU2 to have a single player expansion.
This shit again? It's like some people live in a bubble where Mm didn't develop two of Sony's biggest games last gen. Sure, Dreams has been taking a while but it's not like they're SSM, ND, Japan studio or Guerilla, they're relatively tiny.
I feel like Sony doesn't mind letting their developers/partnered studios make big games toward the end of a generation. Examples include: God of War 1/2, Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2, and Last of Us/Beyond: Two Souls for the PS3. In Santa Monica's case, it took four years to finally get a God of War sequel for the PS3 since they developed late in the PS3's cycle, and it took three years (though planned for two) to get Naughty Dog's new Uncharted for the PS4. And even though they were both probably the biggest studios at the time, they didn't have them save God of War 2/Last of Us for the PS3/PS4.
That's why I've thought that studios that release in 2018/2019 are likely going to make their next project for the PS5, while studios that can get a game out this year may be able to develop another if it's not a new IP. Horizon took a long time because it's a new IP and on new hardware, but I could see a sequel before the PS5 hits as they have their engine and framework for a sequel already.
It's more hypothetical, though. More of a, "If they release this year, it's possible depending what their next game is, but probably only if they release this year." This is the first year I've really thought of this since we're finally at around or past the halfway point.
It's not a bubble. It's reality. The games industry is a what have you done for me lately industry. LBP 1-2 were released many years ago. Tearaway by all accounts didn't sell well. Dreams is not going to be a big seller either. Zipper, Liverpool, Evolution, Cambridge weren't giant studios either. They were all relatively small compared to SSM and ND.
Again, I don't want it to happen. I want MM to exist because they're one of the most creative devs out there, but there's also the reality of the business. Dreams have been in development since LBP2. Even for a small 50+ member team, it's not an insignificant amount of salaries that Sony is paying. If Dreams comes out and bombs commercially, MM is absolutely in danger of being shut down.
This what studio is closing song and dance that's being done every few pages is getting old now. Armchair analyst
Shinobi going to swoop in son leaks and teases in hand.Well, there's not much to talk about at this point. We're 3 months away from E3, no leaks are coming out, et cetera.
Someone drop some megaton leaks please.

That I won't read
That edit..you're a good person

We could speculate on Sony's unknown games.
Like I wonder what unannounced games Sony has planned for what many assume are the last 3ish years of the generation. Their current announced slate is compelling enough to carry them until the PS5 in my opinion but they no doubt have at least a few mystery games.
Sucker Punch is the obvious big one that is undoubtedly a PS4 game. Other than that some strong possibilities are a new collaboration with From Software and probably at least one significant new game from Studio Japan.
I'm also curious as to whether or not Horizon's inevitable sequel is going to be PS4 or not. I imagine it depends on when its successor comes out. Many are expecting the PS5 in 2019 (at least here on GAF) and if that's the case, Horizon 2 would be a very late PS4 game. Possibly even a God of War scenario where is launches after the release of the next console. Though Guerrilla does have a lot of experience working on the PS4 now and has a ton of code and assets already finished. A sequel developed in about 2-2.5 years doesn't feel out of the realm of possibility. Though it could be a monster showcase title and an early flagship release for the next Sony console.
I've been pondering what could be early PS5 games as well. If it does come out in 2019, I agree that Horizon 2 and Straley's new game are both plausible for major first year or two releases.I'd like to think that a Horizon sequel, along with a Ratchet and Clank sequel and a ND new IP (led by Straley along with the Lost Legacy team?) would be PS5 launch/launch window games, next gen exclusive or otherwise, with maybe Knack 3, a Housemarque collab, and another Japan Studio game (maybe a new Patapon/Parappa/LocoRoco if the remasters do well) rounding it out.
A FromSoftware exclusive, God of War, Days Gone, Detroit and Spider-Man in 2018, TLOU2 and Death Stranding in 2019 will round out the rest of PS4's release schedule. And Sucker Punch's game in 2019 as well.
On a side note, I really really hope Toyama returns to third-person survival horror. Imagine something like Siren or Silent Hill running on Decima...LAWD. Until Dawn and, to an extent, Death Stranding, show how that engine can perfectly fit a horror game.
That's what I thought. I haven't actually played any of his games (planning to check out Gravity Rush 2 soon) but his reputation around here seems well deserved. I look forward to seeing what his next project is.Toyama said he is doing another action/adventure title.
Sorry, this is going to hurt, but I wish he never made GR1&2 and invested his time in new horror games....Toyama said he is doing another action/adventure title.

You never know... But you're probably right. Sucker Punch will probably get that prime early year release in 2019 that Sony has utilized beautifully all generation. I can see Days Gone or Detroit pulling a Horizon and finding huge success in Q1 next year.![]()

Throw in a new Japan Studio for PS5 launch, and I agree that looks pretty spot on.God of War in Feb, Detroit in April/May, Days Gone in August, Spider-Man in Fall, SP in Feb 2019, TLOU Part II April/May 2019, Death Stranding in August/early fall 2019, and PS5 in fall 2019 with Horizon 2 and Ratchet as launch titles. Lock it in.
