Beat Ganon this morning and am currently watching credits.

That whole last bit was so fucking cool. It wasn't very hard or interactive but man did it look awesome. Also I sucked at the whole parrying the laser bit in the fight before.

I'm not sure if it is my favorite Zelda, but man was exploring this world fun. I can't think of a better open world game. Truly a fantastic adventure. Still want to explore more and find more things but Nier: Automata is calling my name.

sidequest/hidden area spoilers below:
Got to some island on the southeast side of the map, a voice takes all my items/equipment.
Proceeded as if everything was normal, got a bunch of equipment and bananas, and decided to try to fight the boss with a Soldier's Broadsword. Was doing well with dodge back/flurry rush, but got one-shot.
No autosave. Alright.
Went back and made sure to save before the boss, only to find out you can't save in that area... So I finished the rest of the "quest", then tried to find the sneakiest way to fight the boss. Lined up a bunch of boulders above him, cooked a ridiculous amount of ATK/DEF up food, and found the best equipment on the island.

Blood moon. I went to the island the day before a fucking blood moon. Everything respawns right when I'm in the center of an enemy camp. I fight 'em all off, get some more equipment, farm more ingredients for food, and reset all my traps/bombs for the boss.

.... then I accidentally detonate a bomb, which throws me off a cliff and kills me. Last save two hours ago.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I know it's super early, but I gotta wonder where the series goes from here. Is this the new "formula" we should expect from Zelda? If so, will they be able to justify it and make it feel natural in a different setting without the ruined Hyrule?

I don't know if I'd want them to go back to the linear design. I love just exploring and deciding where I want to go.
Didn't Nintendo say something that for the next game they might try one that's a bit more story focused?

I wouldn't mind a smaller total map size if it's more packed with stuff and a story that isn't so by the books and straightforward as this one. Not to mention bigger and more main dungeons.

Need help please.

I cannot do the second part of the Mirro Shaz Shrine. Hitting the ball with stasis seems wildly inconsistent. Are there any tips?

Thanks.

I don't think they can go back but I wonder about that too. I wonder if settings like the ocean or the sky (like Skyward Sword) would really work as well with the open-world setup BOTW executes so perfectly.

Obviously there are lots of changes you can make, new weapons, new items (imagine a grapple hook!), new ways to travel etc but I do wonder what they could do that feels fresh as an overall concept.

They should take it underground. Legend of Zelda: Underdark and shit.

Kind of hoping for an open world "dark world" hyrule. I've always wanted to see the dark world in the 3D games.

Anybody with the official guide can tell me if it's useful ? I'm debating grabbing the paperback version for 20$. I prefer e-guide but Piggyback seems to net get on with the times.

Debating if I should get it or not... explore an area and once I'm done I can check and see what I missed.

Haha, I was literally about to post that. An underground setting would be super good IMO. It would allow for the same verticality that makes BOTW so good. Link could have a drill item that lets him dig through rock to make his own tunnels.

I'm pretty sure they learned a ton of stuff from making Breath of the Wild. It was their first really big Open-World-Game. And for that it's already really really awesome. Maybe they will hear on fans too and make a even better successor.

Just look on how GTA evolved, and i think that Zelda will, too.

Jesus Christ I've put at least 35 hours(i think) in this game.

Mine finally arrives today (shitty Amazon shipping), I'm hoping it's good. I have the deluxe version on preorder too that I'm still debating on keeping.

Are you paying attention Aonuma we're pumping out GOLD here

I'd love to explore a re-imagined Koholint Island from Link's Awakening, or Termina from MM like this game. I'd buy those regions as DLC, for sure.

So do we know if the chests inside the shrines are predefined, or are the contents randomized within certain categories as you open them?

Spoiler about a shrine quest:

Anyone that has solved the master of the wind quest? i've broke all the rocks with the bombs but now what? do i need some special object?
Solution:
You have to stand at the platform next to the Rito and glide following the wind until you reach the orange platform. You can stand at rocks on the way, I think it´s alright as long as you don´t touch the water.

...
At the Zora dungeon, did anybody attempt
fighting the Lynel? I genuinely thought you were supposed to. Used 3 full weapons, 1 shield and about 7 lives to kill it before being told by a friend you were just meant to sneak around it. On the bright side, I learned more about fighting than anywhere else. I feel ready to take anything on!

I've found a few cool hats but my favourite item is the
climbing boots from a shrine. So good.

The shrine in Lanayru mountain is crazy good too. I highly advise people to find it :)

I fought the
Lynel
, the bastard killed a lot of times but finally learned the timings for it´s attacks and triggered flurry attacks almost constantly. Also, I always tried to stay close to it so it didn´t
pull out it´s bow and never used myne either (that seemed to instantly trigger it´s bow attacks as well)
. I think I used my 4 or 5 strongest weapons. This was one of the highlights of the game for me, I really felt like I was fighting a Dark Souls boss. I also killed a blue one later, I don´t know if the timings are different or what but I found it much harder. Maybe it´s just that it has more health so the fight is longer and you have more chances to make mistakes. I even used an attack+ elixir, but he still took quite some time before going down.

I swear, rain is the bane of my existence in this game. Trying to run a flame to you know where and there's been 3 thunderstorms that have come along in the meantime lol

Which gemstones are safe to sell? I'm sitting on a couple of rubies and sapphires, but I'm too chicken to sell them because I don't know if I'm going to end up needing them for a side quest.

I figure Amber is fine to sell because it seems like you can get that anywhere, I'm just worried about some of the rarer ones.

I truly believe they got a lot of input from Monolith. Zora's region is basically Eryth Sea in design.

Maybe Skyward Sword (motion controls) and A Link Between Worlds (overall smoothness), but the others... yeah no.

I will always be able to go back to Link to the Past. Where ever I finally end up ranking BotW among the other Zelda games I've played, Link to the Past is different enough in design to stand with BotW.

You're right, I was mainly referring to the 3D ones. The original LoZ, ALttP, LA are all still playable of course.

But OoT, MM, WW, TP are kind of hard to play right now for me. Maybe this will change again in the future, though.

Got done with this game last night after
about 50
hours of play time this weekend. Great experience, I'm really happy with how this game turned out! It had a couple of little things that bothered me, but my early feeling is that this is an instant classic.

Boomerangs in this game are basically useless. They never seem to properly return to me and it leaves me without a weapon for what amounts to piddly amounts of damage compared to what I could have done just hitting them with a normal weapon

The Lizafos boomerangs are really reliable weapon pickups as far as hitting stuff (moderately good power and durability for how common they are), but they make pretty poor boomerangs.

I really hope Nintendo builds on this game for the next Zelda. I'd be pretty upset if they went backwards in design for the next game.

I have it. I mean the main use it I have for it is when information isn't readily available and to have the huge map with korok seeds and shrines handy dandy. Not to mention tips on side quests and quick images on solutions to shrines if you can't figure it out. There's no guarantee every website has all of the information so it's nice for that regard.

It has food recipees too so I can see which ones are worth making with what I have

They need to rescale the Korok seeds to be a less chunk of the %. Like, somebody should make a "Real %" if you weight Korok seeds as like 10% of the total game, rather than whatever absurd chunk they are now.

They always return unless you run away from your position. You just need to press A to catch it.

I wouldn't mind if the 3DS and whatever comes after the 3DS keep doing "classic" 3D and 2D Zelda games, while the main console keeps getting huge open world epics.

You only need half of them to max out as well, so making the percent so heavily weighed on the 400+ you don't need to bother finding for any actual reason is pretty dumb

I didn't know I needed to press A to catch them. That would explain why they never work at all for me.

It took me a while to realise I had to actually press A to catch the boomerang again, I was wondering they they ended up flying past me and ending up on the floor! lol

Completed finding all the
memories
last night. I thankfully lucked into finding the one in the
woods
but the real highlight was sneaking into the
castle
. Folk weren't kidding about the music in that section being ace.

Maybe now I'll finally start one of the main Divine Beast quests...

This is the company that went from OoT/MM to WW design wise. I wouldn't put it past them to say fuck it and radically change direction for the next installment lol.

Sounds like you didn't do much side quests, shrines or collect korok seeds.

You basically rushed through the game.

You probably didn't even got the true ending.

Should I hold onto opal or just cash it in for money?

I have not really sold it yet because I was fearing it could be really useful or important later on.

First boomerang I threw hit the enemy and then fell immediately to the ground.

Haven't used one since. What's the point if they just hit the enemy and then fall?

So I want to finish the game "the right way." Is it enough to
do all 4 dungeons and get the Master Sword
for the true ending?
