Speaking of that... I get how cooking works intuitively, but is there any reason to use particular monster parts in particular recipes? Will you get a better elixir if you use monster parts from tougher monsters, more monster parts, or the more rarely dropped parts (like Keese Eyeball rather than Wing)? I'm always short on critters so I haven't been able to test it myself.

Yeah the better the ingredient the stronger the effect it seems, I haven't tested everything either but from my experience it seems to be the case.

What are the numbers on the clothes for? For example, on the bottom right of the Hylian Trousers there is a 3, but there is also the number 7!?

Your current clothes have a defense rating of 3 and your new clothes have a defense rating of 7. At least I assume that's what you mean.

That's not what he is referring to I don't think. If you go into the clothes inventory every item will have a number in the bottom right but it's different than the defense stat. Even your currently equipped items have the number. What is the first number?

For someone who is under 20hour of gameplay and already have such powerful weapons... I think you're just greedy, lol

I mean, I'd trade them all for one 20 damage weapon that didn't degrade.

I like the armor system, by contrast. You get permanent upgrades, but much less frequently. Much less annoying to deal with, and it provides a tangible sense of progression.

Isn't the second, bigger number the total of your defense stats? The first one is the defense stat for that specific item.

That's the defense of the individual piece of clothing. The X -> X numbers are your total defense now, and what your total defense will be after equipping the selected piece of clothing.

I'm not big on weapon degrading systems either but I think this games is one of the few games to do it right to be honest. The key is to not get attached to your weapons and just constantly adapt to the situation you find yourself in. I think this system does a great job of encouraging the player to use every weapon they encounter instead of just sticking to one or two weapons throughout the game. I'm sorry to hear you and a few others are really bothered by it so I hope it doesn't dampen the experience too much.

Nah, I've got a pretty substantial amount of weapon slots and 25-40 damage weapons, I just hate the thought of losing them.

Weapons should degrade, but not break unless they're thrown. So a 40 damage becomes a 20 that can be repaired (yes, I know
repairable weapons
are a thing, but not exactly like this).

It's just not a fun system to engage with.

I actually like it, it makes things interesting and it is fun to go looking for new weapons.

I really don't get how poeple can defend the system. On top of being annoying, it affects the way you approach the game pretty dramatically. No longer are you willing to run around as link and smack things with your sword to check them out, or break pots/boxes/etc... It sucks.

Ive been searching for the korok forest for the last 15-20 hours. Ive completed about 30 shrines, activated 6 towers, found 6 memories, about 40 korok seeds, and found the
Hylian Shield
. WHERE IS HETSU.

So I'm not a Zelda fan in the least. I found the few hours I put into Oot to be boring and slow. If I were to ever invest in a Switch in the future would this play similarly to OoT in any way?

What? I still do that, just with the weaker weapons I have.

Nope, no slow opening.

This game is pretty much it's own beast. Give it a go.

And what happens when you don't have any weak weapons? It's a nuisance no matter what.

Where that shield at though

Hetsu should be within the great hyrule forest

That's also where you find the master sword so pls where can I find the shield

I believe it's above hyrule castle on the map

Just spent an hour running around in circles. The quest would have been extremely simple, if I had a map of the area, that is.

Now that I can buy Ancient equipment I'll have to fight a lot more guardians. Not really looking forward to it :lol

I've never once ran out of weapons so yes I can defend the system. Since the game is nonlinear its either you gain access to an op weapon early in the game and break the game or they play it safe and give the player a sword like the previous games but we loose the diversity of the large weapon variety that this game has. This is a survival adventure game and adapting to your current resources is a big part of the system. Almost every monster you fight drops a weapon so when yours breaks you just grab a new one, its as simple as that.

And what happens when you don't have any weak weapons? It's a nuisance no matter what.

I always do. No kidding. Weak relative to the rest of my arsenal of course, where I am in the game right now a Traveler's Claymore is a "weak weapon". Different weapons work for different situations, using a sword to cut down a tree or mine for materials degrades it faster than using an axe or a sledgehammer, respectively.

As an old-school Fire Emblem fan, I'm used to degrading weapons. But my only beef with it in BotW is we should have some way of seeing it how it degrades (like Fire Emblem). Or be like the Razor Sword in Majora's Mask where you know you had 100 slashes.

What? Have you played the game? I still do that all the time because you always get new weapons.

My friend asked me if his wife who's interested in BotW should play OoT first since BotW can be very difficult. I said no only because it would be pointless as they play almost nothing alike.

If you're a fan of open world or exploration I'd play this. I have played 30-40 hours and feel as if I've seen maybe 1/4th of what this game offers. Although this game does not have the strengths of OoT, it excels in every area OoT fails. Definitely give it a shot if you can.

lol, nah man, I clearly haven't played the game.

I get looking past it, but pretending like it's not gonna be annoying for most people is a bit much.

Thanks for the input. If I ever get a Switch, then I might finally give Zelda another chance. OoT seriously put me off on the series so the less similar, the better.

Go behind hyrule castle and you can see what looks like a mineshaft opening. Just run on in there and get it. You can easily run past any enemies a long the way without issues and the only required fight is easy with arrows

They just shouldn't break so quickly,so you can at least savor that fancy new weapon you found in a chest before it breaks 30 seconds later

I think degradation would be fine instead of breaking. As long as you don't throw a weapon, it should remain usable at half it's starting attack rating. A 40 damage weapon become a 20 damage one, and so on.

It's just stupid that Link never has permanent gains in attack like he does in defense.

I don't really find it annoying, I always have weapons and I actually kind of look forward to them breaking in combat since it means I'll have to likely chose something different and adapt my fighting style. Plus if you get a headshot with a badly damaged weapon it's like quadruple damage

I think I can agree with that, it would be nice to actually monitor the durability of weapons.

Anyone make it to the shrine in the forgotten temple?

I'm dodging guardians left and right like a freaking ninja and I eventually notice a shrine. I figure it must be an extremely tough shrine since it is such a pain to get there. I make it to the shrine and you just go up a flight of stairs and get the spirit orb. lmao thought that was amazing.

Master Sword though, among others

I can't speak for "most" people but I am not annoyed yet. Yes it is more management but not annoying.

The good thing about this system is that I use all weapons, from spoons to brooms to mops to rakes to swords, etc. If the weapons didn't break then I would just play with the most powerfula nd done. That is pretty boring.

Anyone encounter Kass in the stable on the way to
the Gerudo
? The theme he was playing, I know it's from OoT... but I blanked out on it. Was it
malon's theme
?

Seems like I can't find this game anywhere in my area for the switch. Looks like I have to buy a copy off NewEgg this friday.

EDIT: It's now sold out on Newegg...

I think it's a matter of taste. Same with luck, some people just hate randomness in games no matter how well it's done.

I'm enjoying the weapon system in this game. I like games that force me to adapt like that and use everything it has to offer.

Yup.

I've seen tons of people complain in this thread alone. Maybe not most, who knows, but people need to stop getting so intensely defensive when small things like this are criticized.

I'll be honest, I found it annoying at the beginning but I'm no longer really concerned with it. I do wish there were more invincible weapons to reinforce a sense of progression.
