Question for Zora's domain area

the guy on top of the mountain with the electric arrows. I snuck around and collected them all. Is it necessary to fight him-he saw me and OHKed me. I left after getting the arrows. Should I come back and fight him?

You dont have to fight him. Save your weapons!

I killed him because I felt like the game was daring me to, and he dropped a decent sword shield and bow -- decent but not special -- as well as some monster parts.

My friend just stealthed around and avoided him, which is what hte game probably expects you to do.

don't fight him, he's really hard.

he was pretty tough as weak link, but my strategy of using speed potions and just running like fuck worked

It is optional. Do it whenever you feel ready.

Finished the first dungeon. I stumbled on it completely by accident so I don't know if it's supposed to be the first or not. I'm assuming it is based on how it went. I had such low expectations considering Nintendo's behavior and it still fell short. I liked that the puzzles structure felt more traditional Zelda than the shrines but that's all I liked about it. I mean if this was what they were going to put out there I don't even know why they bothered with them to begin with.

Still loving the game but I'm starting to think BotW cracking my top 3 might be out of reach.

Finally had to put down the game for today or I wouldn't get any sleep!!

I made it to
Lost wood, love the implementation of how you get lost there. Took me two times to notice the particles in the flame which is what you have to follow using the torch, really nice. Also love having to actually EARN the master sword...which I couldn't yet, I feel liks I need just one more heart which I'll get tomorrow and get what is mine!!

It feels so good when you do.

haha someone told me about that and I was like "huh"

I got through it another way.. I just watched for the white fog to come at me and step back -- then try another route. It was actually pretty easy once I started doing this.

I got it still another way:
After I ran out of flame posts, I just watched the little particles floating in the air. It seemed to lead me in the right direction. Though I may have ended up doing some of your method too if I went astray.

Yessssss I found a second great fairy

You can upgrade Barbarian armor yessssss, but that item requirement, yikes, I've got new purpose.

Holy cow. I don't really know how to explain this spoiler since it was a random world encounter. Let's just say it was on the south end of the map.

I was
on a mountain ridge with a lake containing three chests and just as I started to drag them out of the water I get hit by electricity balls. I look up and there's this giant ass green Dragon that is diving into the water. I get hit by his balls twice and die but my fairies revive me. It flew back out and off into the night sky.

My
arrows did nothing.
Amazing.

Didn't know you could step back from the fog, that is an interesring tactic!! I tried once to get away and still got grabbed.

I can't find the damn Fireflies in Kakariko... I got 3 but then suddenly I can't find anymore anywhere. I'm even using the sensor but I still run in circles.

Spoilers for my basic tactics/experience with the fight
I ended up facing a different Lynel earlier in the game somewhere else when i was even less equipped. I ended up making some +3 defense food and some food that increased my max hearts. That allowed me to tank quite a bit of his hits.

I actually suggest getting right up in his face at all times. He'll mostly do a quick 3 hit combo that can be tricky to time. Don't worry about timing for flurry, just do a back flip as you see him real back to start the attack. As soon as you land from that first flip instantly do a second(just keep holding back and mash jump!). That second flip will be perfectly timed with his second attack to instigate a flurry attack.

You can also mount him if you get behind him after he does certain attacks. He'll throw you off after you get in a few good shots though.

Really not enjoying this game as much as I feel I should be.

Trying to force myself to like it more but getting frustrated and or bored with the game over time. I'm just not sure why I can't like it like everyone else, that in itself is annoying me.

I miss the charm from the previous games. I miss the narrative buildup to the world in Wind Waker, I miss having an artstyle that feels like it hits exactly what they wanted to achieve.

I miss the articulated design and difficult, pacing and structure of these carefully crafted games. I resent the artificial nature of this games agency. Do anything you want they say, but make sure you go to the tower first. Do anywhere they say, but the enemies in that direction do four times the damage of the enemies in the other.

I miss the personality exuded by soundtracks of the previous games, I miss the combat that encouraged me to use a wide range of different skills, learning and adapting to each scenario.

I resent the combat system. I dislike shifting my equipment every few seconds. It doesn't promote variety because the functional operation of every weapon is near enough the same. There are fast weapons and slow, and that's it. Dealing 10 damage or 20 doesn't make the game any more varied, and it's not worth the stop and start gameplay experience, at least, not for me. None of these weapons have attack sets anywhere near as versatile or interesting as the default in Wind Waker or Ocarina of Time.

I miss the dungeons. I didn't even realise this was an issue until I encountered my first dungeon. A very small collection of puzzles sewn together with a boss that feels out of place and poorly designed.

I'm still enjoying it overall. The exploration is fun, when I play it, I always want to see what's around the next corner. It's nice to see a Zelda universe that feels fleshed out and believable in scale and scope, yet I can't help but miss much of the design considerations of its predecessors.
I haven't done a dungeon yet but this is really echoing my thoughts.

I'm typing this post while it rains because i was in the middle of trying to climb a mountain. I have to watch Link stand there until it stops raining.

Look around the fairy fountain. And they only come during certain times of day. I wanna say Sunset because its in the name but Im pretty sure I also got them at sunrise.

Me: Oh man,
Eventide Island
was such a fun and challenging trail, I bet the shrine reward should be good.

Shrine: "here's 300 rupees"

Now that I've cleared close to 10 towers, I really love the variety of challenges when it comes to climbing them.
Sometimes they're surrounded by enemy camps, or thorns, or right in the middle of a bog, or even protected by Guardians.
They did a great job mixing it up.

Thought I out smarted the game.

Headed to a desert with enemies well above what my weapons were capable of. Sniped the guard moblin on look out then climbed onto the skull building and started chucking (very weak) bombs inside.

After weakening a couple of them inside the third one snuck up behind me and climbed up onto the skull eye socket where I was. Son of a.

Managed to loot some 45 weapons off of them though after carefully executing all of them.

That's what makes the game special. Rather then telling the same old tale of how I had the exact same experience as you in the same lame dungeon everyone was in, I had a memorable encounter with just a couple normal enemies.

Screw dungeons, hope they never return.

Considering the size of the game, I feel like they could have done both, and itd be a better game for it.
How does game design work?

You have a vision, you go for it. You have a deadline and a hungry fan base waiting though. You just can't put 'everything' in a game. If game designers could do that we'd get 10/10 games all the time.

The divine beasts were a really cool concept. Well executed too, IMO. Would dungeons have been awesome? Hell yeah. But man I couldn't imagine waiting another year or even two for them to add them to the game.

There will absolutely be another Zelda game. Maybe traditional dungeons will be in that one.

Anywho, I can't get enough of this game. I've done nearly 90 shrines and boy are they getting tough to find. I want to complete them all before facing Ganon, for reward reasons. Also want to find all the memories.

One of the best things about the game is that it just constantly distracts you. You set a clear path in your mind, start going there. Shrine sensor goes off. You see what looks like a Korok puzzle. Oh, is that a world boss?

It's just too damn good and I find it nuts that in my 60+ hours with the game I'm still discovering new things and getting distracted in the same ways.

I really don't want the game to end, lol.

You can make it through Hyrule Castle in about 3 minutes if you rush, or you can take 40 minutes or more exploring it.

I used
the Zora suit
to
swim up waterfalls
and I wasn't seen by any enemies at all, just stealthed right in the front door. Took no time at all.

I love OoT to death - one of the most important games of my life, maybe THE most important. But it's a healthy thing for the series that we can move on from the shadow of that game now.

Is this game really better than OoT? I haven't played the game yet.

As an OoT fan, what aspects of OoT does BotW improve upon? On the flipside, what qualities from OoT has BotW not exceeded?

76 shrines and 3 divines down. It's funny I somehow have less Korok seeds. Like where are they hiding these 900 puzzles? Only one memory too. So much to do in the game but I think I'm going to wrap up the story tomorrow and then take a break.

Bought other games for the Switch and haven't even opened them haha

The vision is sound. The only improvement I want to see in a sequel is more overworld enemy and especially overworld boss variety.

I agree...

In addition, I really wish the Shrines were a bit different from each other. Perhaps different textures or something, they all are pretty much the same exact texture, lighting etc. I also wish there was some caves you can adventure through and find hidden items etc. With an over world as massive as this, it is a shame that there were not any caves to explore.

Real talk - I don't miss dungeons and I've never particularly been a huge fan of them either. I always liked Zelda games mostly in spite of them.

To be honest, comparing BOTW and OOT feels a little bit like comparing apples to oranges. It's kind of like comparing Super Mario World to Super Mario 64.

So how are people getting the
10,000 rupees to power up the last Great Fairy sister?

Find your way to
Lurelin Village
. There's a gambling minigame in a shack somewhere, bet 100 rupees. Save whenever you get a 300 rupee chest, if you don't just reload your save before you entered. Save after a successful gamble. I ended up with about 15,000 rupees this way.

Also, there's a Gerudo woman in
Goron City
who will over crazy prices for ore/gems. Hold onto any that you find.

I kinda wish the dungeons were similar to the scale of Hyrule castle.

The divine beasts in this game are still great and fun, but the open nature and exploration is what I love about this game.

Hyrule is supposed to be mainly an end game area, but it's so much fun to sneak around and loot the place when you are low level. It helps that the music playing there is rad as hell.

I actually like Super Mario World better than Mario 64. I don't think Nintendo nailed down the 3D Mario formula until Mario Galaxy.

BotW looks overwhelming with its 900 Korok seeds. Does it have anything akin to the Riddler Challenge Maps or Riddler Informants from the Arkham series of does the player have to stumbling in on them by chance?

Just made my way up
Death Mountain to Goron City
. Absolutely breathtaking and rife with many surprises along the way. I have completed 1 divine beats and have been playing for close to 40 or so hrs. I cannot get enough of this world.

You mostly stumble across them like "oh, that doesn't seem right". There's nothing telling you on the map where they are. It's a pure observational challenge. It's not really a game meant for 100%.

I agree. Hyrule Castle is AMAZING and made me realize what "real" dungeons could have been like BotW style.
