I don't agree with his views, but I'm not too big in the guy being kicked from a company he started because he made a bad joke. I enjoyed listening to him when he spoke about video games.

It was the wrong move for him to post that joke on that day, but I feel the reaction to it was infinitely more embarrassing.

I did not expect this nor did I hope for this. I didn't like how he handled things with the whole fallout lately. All that was needed was "it was a joke and sorry I called ppl sacks of shit" and then quit trolling, guess that was too hard.
On the other hand I can repledge on patreon, plus Tim has really been killin it lately.

Saw this coming over the last six months. Been kinda obvious his heart isn't in videogames media commentary as it was before, and he only seemed to enjoy himself on the Kinda Funny podcast.

Still a co-owner? Wonder how you cash out your % of a YouTube bussiness / media company.

I liked hearing his views when he wasn't so confrontational or reverting to winning arguments by being the loudest / last one speaking, but there was an uptick in that sort of behavior lately and it was obvious he hasn't been happy there for some time.

This was the big drama?

Jesus society got really oversensitive.

Guy cant even make a joke.

Yep its crazy :S
Nowadays everything is a controversy. Every normal thinking person know its just a joke, but it got so blown up becouse of social media.

Good luck Colin, and good luck kinda funny!

He can make as many jokes as he wants.

He was causing big problems for his organisation and either needed to change his behavior or split.

We all have freedom of speech but if you use that freedom of speech to cause problems for your employer/business partners, there's eventually going to be consequences.

Colin made this decision in his own and most likely at the push of th rest of the guys at KF.

He made a stupid "joke" that reflected badly on their brand and business. This is the result. Words and actions have consequences.

What happened to free speech providing immunity for when you say irresponsible bullshit? What about the 1st Amendment?!

Man, you guys are pretty harsh.

Good luck to all his future endeavours.

B-but it's just a joke

Wow. I just discovered PS I Love You a few weeks back and have been going back and listening to tons of it lately. I actually liked Colin. The first podcast I listened to I nearly turned it off after 5 minutes listening to Greg.

And this is just from the first page!

Why are people glad to see him go?

let's just say that Moriarty and the alt-right are very much aligned when it comes to social issues.

plus his economic ideology was more important to him than poor people dying and the rights of minority groups.

I'm actually really glad that this happened. Ever since KF happened, I've felt like Colin has started to pull his own direction with his opinion. It was almost like he didn't think he had a boss, so he just said whatever. Eventually he's started getting inflammatory.

What I hope happens from this is that Colin goes into the political arena (I would watch a show with him debating actual, politically-knowledgable people), but, he stays clear from video games. Guys like him give gamers a bad name in the long run.

Also, for my personal sake, I hope that this somehow pulls Marty Sliva away from IGN and to PS I Love You XOXO, because that would be the best podcast on earth, if so.

It sounds like he's not going to go into gaming. It'll be something political

The crazy thing is that he might have been the "smart political guy" when he was in a room with Greg and Tim but I don't see how that's going to be lucrative when he actually starts debating and having conversations with people who are knowledgeable about these subjects.

Or he'll hang out in the Beck and Rubin circles where the bar is way lower.

He's basically this cancer on Kinda Funny that's been slowly growing if you've been following them. They finally cut him loose.

Uh I mean he resigned! He needs to catch up on books.

Cause he made KF toxic as hell.

Happy the other Kinda Funny guys dont have to be saddled with his bullshit anymore and people can feel OK supporting Greg and Co without supporting this dirt pile.
Ok, can you guys give me some more details? As someone who hasn't checked out KF yet, I'm really curious here. Can someone explain?

EDIT

Oh, wow. Ok. Got it.

Colin and Greg have been doing podcasts together since 2007.

10 years.

I don't think that's accurate. When did Colin start coming on Beyond... around episode 90 I think?

Basically, this past week, Colin tweeted out something sexist on International Women's Day. Lots of people, including former IGN co-workers, called Colin out. Colin's attracted a lot of alt-right supporters over the past year, who started saying toxic things. Someone asked Tim Getty's if this is the audience he wants, which Tim tweeted back that it wasn't. Colin said something rude about anyone who was offended by the "joke". Things blew up. Colin's girlfriend was rude to some IGNers. Colin decided not to go to PAX and Greg tweeted an apology. Colin then tweeted that he was a martyr for liberty, and kept poking the flames.
This is all after getting in public arguments in the past few months with Max Scoville, Bob Mackey, and Justin Davis, among others.

EDIT: I should also mention Colin never disavowed the alt-right supporters.

Good for Kinda Funny and games discussion in general. We have got to keep hate movements away from this medium, including people who support, condone, or tolerate them.

I enjoyed Colin and Greg on Beyond, but after starting Kinda Funny, and especially the last few weeks, it's become apparent that he was extremely distracting to their company. He became the story many of the days. Hope with this move, they can refocus on gaming and gaming news, and not have to debate politics every 3rd episode.

I'm not a fan of Kinda Funny, but this is a positive sign that Colin at least won't be given a place in the mainstream games press anymore. They were protecting his gross behavior long after they should have gotten away from him and everything he associates with. Respect to those guys for doing the right thing in the end.

They were friends since the ign days, not sure if they've had a fallout since geis is really liberal to Colin's really conservative (plus outlandish tweets). He may be saying it jokingly.

I really doubt he was joking, I think Gies was giving him sit for his women comments earlier.

Well yeah, hateful political ideologies aren't really for happy fulfilled well adjusted people.

I have been critical of him lately too, I certainly don't subscribe to his politics, but he has never seemed like a legitimatley bad person, so I do wish him well, and I hope he can find enthusiasm for something else now.

This is awful, Colin is my favorite personality on the show because he keeps the conversation from becoming Sony fan boyish
This is not true in the slightest. Colin is one of the biggest Sony fanboys out there who spewed a lot of garbage about the other consoles.

Oh hey, re subbed to the KF podcasts again. Time to give them another shot. Politics aside, Colin was what turned me away.

If my podcast personalities are going to be critical, I'd at least like them to be insightful, or passionate about something in the field.

That said, I do genuinely hope he's happier in whatever new safe space echo chamber he winds up in.

Well this sucks. The dynamic of everything is going to change. Tim's workload is going to increase for the simple fact that they just lost 1 person who plays games for a small company that the majority of their content is videogames. PS I love You is pretty much over.

It is funny when libertarians use this line, demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding of constitutional jurisprudence - the Constitution protects you from the government, not private actors.

Similar to when Gary Johnson sued the Commission on Presidential Debates to get access - it was a private group! I thought libertarians were all about that!
