Yes, JonTron said things that other people don't agree with, let him say them, he has the right to do it. That's what he THINKS, that's how he FEELS.

I know you are big advocate for LGBT rights, I know you lean left, you have the right to say whatever you want and if someone came here on GAF to tell you to get the "Fuck Out of Here", that wouldn't make you happy right?

Opinions shouldn't be scary, if you don't agree with someone just say it, but let people say what they want.

following someone doesn't make you racist. you throw that word out too easily.

This is an insane post coming from a lot of privilege. If someone says your existence is destroying civilization, that's fucking scary. You don't get to be the goddamned arbiter of what scares people.

So yes, FOH with this bullshit.

rofl, so now people are going after Neil because he is friends with someone who has political views not liked?

Yea, I knew this shit was going to snowball into crazy town.

Let's not act like a heavy dose of side eye should not be shown to the gaming industry. It does. A lot of it is just white dudes who don't care about anyone else and when politics get brought up they get hurt and call everyone SJWs and cry about Political Correctness.

Probably for a co optional.

Would like to remind that when it mattered, TB was still pro hillary (as in voted for her) and actually had a huge argument with his wife about it (who didn't vote at all). He said some shitty stuff during GG but I think it's a bit reductionist to equate him to only that

Also, when it mattered he spread an unsubstantiated story about some random indie dev's sex life, including her full name, with his hundreds of thousands of tweeps.

TB.. you fucking better not be on Colin's side here. I can't even comprehend how the mental gymnastics would have to function to make sense of TB's current position fitting in with Colin's political framework.

Ahahah, you're funny.
TB was on Colin's side before Colin was even there to drop his shit.

I'm not saying to boycott his games but being friends with someone like Colin is enough to earn you some serious side eye.

I really don't see that point as a valid one though. Their relationship isn't related to their professions in a way that he should stop all form of contact with Colin. Hasn't been for a few years now, and more so as he's out of KF.

The KF laying him off is the opposite example of that you mention.

what privilege? tell me, what do you assume i am? a white guy from kansas?

No, but it does paint Neil in a bad light.

Perhaps if you take it at face value, but consider that intimate friendships are often born from moments where the involved aren't actually very knowledgeable about each other and it's not so unambiguous anymore. I also have friends who don't have the most progressive of values about the same things i do and i don't value their importance to my life any less because of it, even if i have to make an extra effort to help them in situations of less ethical or moral quality and to explain things in terms they can understand.

You think I already don't? The way the gaming industry handled GG shows it's a really shit industry.

Fair enough, just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I'm sad to see Colin go but at the same time he's the reason I stopped supporting kinda funny awhile back.

I'll miss Colin. Although I certainly didn't always agree with him, he was a unique voice in the medium and when he was in a playful mood like he often was on the morning show or a good episode of PSILY he could be absolutely one of the funniest motherfuckers on the internet. I wonder what he'll do next. I guess it seems like he's heading in a political direction; I wonder if he couldn't combine his gaming cred with his political views. In the Rubin Report he was bemoaning the lack of right-leaning voices in the games media. It would be interesting to see what a 'Republican Gaming' channel would look like. I wouldn't really follow him for his politics but if it was deep dives into gaming and social trends filtered through the lens of his personal ideologies ala Colin was Right then that would provide something meaningful and possibly fill a gap in representing a gaming demographic that maybe isn't currently being represented.

Totalbiscuit also made a big post after Trump got elected saying he doesn't care for anyone who voted for him and how this "isn't his country" or something in that vein. He also came out against harassment against women and transgendered a year and a half ago.

He made mistakes pre-GG, that's not up for debate. He has changed since then and is a pretty decent guy.

This right here. Nailed it.

Probably asking him to join his podcast tomorrow or next week.

Dude, Colin started filling Jon Tron. You know better than this.

Yes

I'm not going to speak for Colin, I'm simply pointing out the literal witch hunt unfolding because a completely separate person who has nothing to do with this is now being dragged into it because he had dinner with the Colin.

rofl, so now people are going after Neil because he is friends with someone who has political views not liked?

Yea, I knew this shit was going to snowball into crazy town.

I really don't get that, which is why I posted his tweet. Are these people also going to side eye KF now because the guys, Greg included, are all going to remain Colin's friends? All I'm reading is how people will now be paying attention to KF again. If the KF guys can remain friends with Colin, why isn't Neil allowed to be?

It's where things get a bit out of order scorching the earth. Colins faced consequences for his tweet and political views, why are we now going after every and any bystander who dares talk to Colin, like his name is now Voldemort?

Neil is like one of the most decent guys around, so it's a bit unfortunate to see anyone go off on him now.

your statements aren't about ice cream. stop acting like you are talking to a 10 year old. people 👏 have 👏 different 👏 opinions

If someone's opinion is

"non-whites are genetically inferior"

at no point should that opinion ever be humored, given the time of day, ever accepted for any reason ever.

Not every opinion is sacred. It's possible for an opinion to be wrong.

Sigh...

I dropped TB once, guess if he follows through this is cause enough to drop him again.

(inb4 everyone saying "YOU DON'T MATTER" as a viewer.)

You absolutely do matter.
Actually even more than people who didn't watch him at all (like me for example).
That guy was on GG at the beginning, he jumped on that wagon pretty early on.
I don't see value in his content before and I still don't.
If your view on the subject is of any importance to you, stop supportting him one way or another is a good start.

YES. Let people that follow him decide what they want to do, keep supporting him, stop following him, attack him. He has millions of followers, let them decide.

Who is interfering with these people? We can voice our minds and his fans can take that how they want.

Not like this TotalBiscuit...most people overlooked your pre-GG antics.

Also, when it mattered he spread an unsubstantiated story about some random indie dev's sex life, including her full name, with his hundreds of thousands of tweeps.

"He" ? You mean the information on the ex-s blog that everybody (including me, I admit it, and I'm not proud of that moment) was passing around ?

Not to excuse his behaviour during the GG crisis (he should've been more criticial of the info for sure) but you're saying like he orchestrated the whole thing.

Not to distract from my overall point that TB is a more nuanced man than the portrait usually painted here and it does no good by being reductionist

In which we learn people have different opinions, but god forbid you voice your opinions about their opinions, that's just crossing the line.

Everyone can have their opinions and everyone should keep their opinions to themselves.

Except JonTron obviously.

your statements aren't about ice cream. stop acting like you are talking to a 10 year old. people 👏 have 👏 different 👏 opinions

We 👏 can 👏 still 👏 think 👏 they're 👏 garbage.

Just another thread where people think that "Free speech" somehow is also supposed to mean "Freedom from criticism about their speech."

And off topic, I'm going to assume the second poster was doing it to lampoon the first, but clapping between words is, and always will be, a shitty way to punctuate a point. You may as well type in all caps while you're at it.

The thing there is, we don't have a relationship with him, but his persona. Don't really see how testaments to his quality in private life have anything to do with mitigating his behavior in public life.

That's a sad disconnect, perhaps. But "my girlfriend and friends like me, think I'm tolerant and open to criticism and debate" doesn't cut it as proof that in his talking head career he is also those things. The latter is about his actions in the public sphere.

Admittedly, it is far too tempting to move in the other direction too and see him as evil incarnate because of a toxic persona. Who someone is does find expression in public, but it is rarely the whole picture.

When is it enough of a picture?

Or, alternatively, how many posts in here are really besmirching his private character anyway and not just about disliking his persona?
