Gosh, just when I think I´ve seen everything in the game there are 4 posts mentioning stuff I haven´t come across. Such a huge world.

Speaking of the Labyrinths, man, what great music for those. Reminds me of something out of DK Country.

It really sets the mood for those locations, I totally flt like I had been transported outside of the world to somewhere else and was trapped there until I could solve the maze.

Indeed, after spending hours in them, that track is embedded into my cerebral cortex. Not a bad thing though.

Any practicle uses for the glowing
skeleton suit
and
monster masks
or just a case of fashion zelda?

The monster masks let you move past that enemy type without them attacking. You can't hang out or anything but it's real useful for blowing by Lynels.

About shield surfing. I find that I rarely opt to use it. Not because I don't want to destroy my shields but generally I find myself just jumping and gliding if I need to go somewhere downhill.

Same here, though I'm sure it's mostly because I forget about that ability...

Love the game. Ive beaten it now I'm just going exploring and doing all the leftover shrines. As much as I love the game, they need to dial back the rain!

The lack of armor, food or some other trinket to negate the rain is awful. The climbing gear upgrade bonus should make you not slip in the rain. Rain = Fun killer. There are other areas that could be improved but a huge easy QoL improvement would be rain mitigation.

I keep hearing these 3-4 quick musical notes almost like the game is telling me to look for something. Am I crazy or is this just part of the soundtrack?

I had the sort of star part tone around the bottomless swap but couldn't see anything. It sometimes happen.

I know, the funny thing is the NPCs react to it as well all the time "Seriously?!" <= when it's starts to rain.

Hi guys, wondering if anyone could help.

So, this is my first Zelda game and I absolutely adore it, so much so that I really want to dig into the rest of the games (will probably wait to see if any/all come to Switch in the next year or so) but I realise this is the first 'open world' one so how exactly do the other games play? I can't really imagine Zelda as much else having not experienced it.

They all (except for a couple mediocre DS games and some spin offs) have a largeish overworld type place where you can wander around (no climbing though, the areas are pretty closed down), but the game always leads you where you need to go. Dungeons have a set order, and each dungeon has a signature item you get that is used heavily in that dungeon's puzzles (instead of getting every tool at the start like BotW).

The climbing gear's real bonus ability should have been the ability to climb in the rain. Seems like a really obvious thing they should have done.

So after beating the game, I hope we go back to a more traditional and memorable Zelda for the next one. In hindsight, the open world luster lasted until after the first guardian (Zora), after that I knew what to expect (outside of the short main quest).

Dungeons don't always have strictly set order, per se - Ocarina of Time's can be done in varying order, and Majora's Mask allows you to swap Stone Tower and Great Bay Temple. But they are much more heavily restricted, certainly.

Did I see somebody say earlier that you cant max out health *and* stamina?

You can't, no. You'll be three hearts short. To me, this implies there will be 12 DLC shrines. Alternatively Nintendo likes fucking with completionists.

The big exception to this of course is Link Between Worlds, where you can get all your tools early on like in BotW and do dungeons in whatever order you want (to an extent). Of the other Zeldas it's the most like BotW, but the Dungeons are much longer and more of a focus like in older games.

I'd recommend that that anyone whose first game is BotW (hell, I'd recommend it to anyone in general just because it's a really good game).

Disagree completely. It would be nice to keep this expanded scope because it's the first Zelda that truly calls back to Zelda 1 and 2. What they need to do is have more traditional dungeons. While I don't mind the smaller, more intimate puzzles of these new dungeons I would also like the kind of grand design of previous games.

Otherwise, anything less than this kind of dynamic open world Zelda is a step back.

Oh man. I only need one more heart which means I'm going to be stuck with an unfinished stamina meter. Thats going to drive me crazy!

Doesn't Stone Temple require Great Bay's Ice Arrows? And Great Bay's Hookshot? From what I remember, it needs both of those items.

Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past are often recommended as starting points for people.

I feel like Ocarina would be a good starting point in that case because it would be more removed in time, and you can kind of see how the last big revolution in Zelda went and what latter games took as a model. Something like playing the previous Zelda game right after this, Skyward Sword, would feel really weird I think. At the time, Ocarina felt open world.

Link to the Past is always a recommended option if you want to try a 2D game as well.

There's no going back from this. That being said, there's plenty of room for improvement and I'd be ok with seeing some "traditional" elements return.

I actually prefer the more concise, bite-sized shrines compared to the temples. Temples felt bloated after completing so many shrines.
I like figuring out how to solve a puzzle rather than trying to work out what the puzzle is.

Haven't tried it, but
the former could be useful for the Ruins above the Great Forest?

They don't help there actually -- I had originally thought that too, but chances are you can deal with those ruins as soon as you get there,

as long as you
enter in the correct spot.

... on the on the
west side.

What that gear *does* let you do is

Just chill with skeleton mobs. They won't attack you or anything if you're wearing it and it is upgraded x 2 in order to get the 'disguise' set bonus, they'll just kind of walk up and look at you funny.

I only really use it on snow and sand, where it doesn't damage your shield. It's fantastic, and you can use it on only slight downhill slopes where you cant glide properly.

I really enjoyed the dungeons in this game, as a next-level puzzle to solve. I wish there were more shrines that were like the dungeons, actually, even if they weren't story-related.

That said, I would really like to see some areas return which are more like
Hyrule Castle
. That is the perfect example of what an open-world Zelda dungeon could be, and I want them to riff on that idea forever. I'm surprised there aren't more zones similar to that in the game as it stands ... the
Forgotten Temple
and the fort in
Akkala (?)
seem like missed opportunities to me now.

Shrines are awesome, but I'd have preferred it if we had gotten both shrines and longer dungeons. The rare shrines we get that are longer are such a treat and I like the feeling of being effectively trapped in a place until you figure out a number of puzzles, and the one DB I've done just can't compare to a good Zelda dungeon.

Happy to see so many first timers loving the game. I've been playing the game soon for two weeks and I've completed only one dungeon so far but I've been absolutely loving my time with the game. I can just explore the world for hours on end. When I'm not playing I'm thinking about playing all the time.

They've been described above, but temper your expectations! They're all extremely polished puzzle games with mostly a charming bit of world building (and sometimes puzzle gimmicks that may be a bit obnoxious), but they all fall short of BotW horrendously in one aspect: their game world and the interaction with the game world.

Just don't expect any of them to have an exploration aspect that comes even close to BotW, so you won't be too disappointed there. Then you might also like those. If Nintendo treats the Switch similarily to the WiiU (Virtual Console, HD-makes), you might even be able to play most of the Zelda games on it some years down the line.

On that node, ports of the 3DS' OoT und Majora's Mask remakes would be pretty welcome on the Switch in my book.

But that's not good! I want to do both. I've found 70 shrines and I beat my third divine beast last night. It's just piss easy. It's such a shame. I just tried to let the world open up organically to me, and now I'm too powerful. It's the tale as old as time with open worlds, though.

The armor system is just completely and utterly fucked. One of the worst in gaming by the time you get to the end game.

If you want the game to be hard, you basically can't
wear "heavy" armor upgraded to 3-Starts
. It completely breaks the game on a profound level.

Hmm, does that work on a
Stalnox? Probably not I guess. Normal masks already work on their respective Stal versions, so not too exciting a bonus.

Sorry if this has been asked before but its a big thread to go through!

My wife is playing through this on her japanese account, can I switch to my english account and start a playthrough without affecting her save?

I read theres only one system file for the save so not sure.

Edit - OK appears I can have a seperate save on my account
