I hadn't seen most of this before. One plus to this season was the return of humans fighting goons without morphing, although it seems primarily to be just Adam. That's fine, though, he's got skills.
It also looks to be true that Adam was supposed to stick around. I'd thought that was fanon but the writers have seriously marginalized Tommy in favor of Adam and the introduction of two new recruits much earlier on before shoehorning in the other two at the last minute would seem to telegraph their original intentions.
I will say, though, that as much as it would've been great to have at least a couple of Zordon's proteges around for the grand finale of this arc, I'm glad JYB at least got out when he did. He did Trigun pretty much immediately after this and that strongly set him down the path he's on now.
