What is a possible Microsoft answer to Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild?

I don't think Microsoft has to answer to those games. They are on their own path, different from Sony and Nintendo.

Everyone likes to rag on MS and I get it, but what they are providing really works for me. I now game almost exclusively with friends online. When I look back over the past year I mainly played games like GTAO, the Division, Wildlands, Rocket League, ECT. Sea of Thieves, Crackdown and State of Decay are perfect for my library.

They are providing games for people like me who want a social experience, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Let Sony and Nintendo push out the giant single player games, and let MS focus on the multiplayer/co-op games.

What is college baseball counter to the MLB? Nothing because it's not even in the same league. HZD and Zelda is Major league and Sea of thieves is minor league.

What about Xbox owners who want giant single player titles of that kind, it's not all about you. Personally I'd love MS to bring Fable back but I can't see that happening anytime soon.

Crazy to think that after 15 years MS don't have a studio that can push out a Zelda or Horizon. It's really going to come down to them buying up a 3rd party game.
It would come down to Scalebound or RDR2, both are pipe dreams at this point.

Mass effect just came out.
There are no shortage of giant single player titles of that kind on Xbox one.

Why would they need to buy a game like RDR2 that will exist any way? They already tried a bandaid like that with ROTTR. Put that money into making your own game...like Scalebound.

I respectfully disagree.

I want MS to make a new Crimson Skies.
That Microsoft is long dead

I'm glad people still remember crimson skies though. Along with halo mech assault ninja gaiden bloodwake these games defined another echelon of the scope and technology in games. They made ps2 and GameCube owners jealous. The Xbox today can't hold a fucking candle to that.

The new Microsoft sacrificed ingenuity for fucking temporary exclusivity of nu tr. Fuck Microsoft. God fucking dammit.

Mobile first. Cloud first.

I.....really hope that for the sake of this thread...Microsoft really spins heads at E3 (and actually releasing the games) with the amount of cackling happening lol

Scalebound.
Wait...

Seriously, Microsoft just needs to invest in more companies. Guerrilla wasn't all that amazing when it was first making games for Sony, but it cultivated talent and put out an amazing game.

Nintendo games are pretty consistently great, because of cultivation of talent. Still put out Gears, Halo, and Forza games, but encourage other studios to take risks and put out something amazing. If you get a 60, well, that's unfortunate, but there's a chance you will get Horizon.

people are still in the honeymoon phase with horizon if they seriously think it's changed anything about open world games. it's just really good at the standard format.

Sure, but the same could be said about Zelda. Really, they're both just well made. The last game that I really though changed a bunch about the open world format is TW3 which just combined the Bethesda and Ubisoft formulas to something much better than either individually. Few games are "truly" revolutionary. The last I can think of that fit that category was probably COD4.

Microsoft doesn't make games like Horizon or Zelda because it'd be difficult for them to shoehorn in multiplayer features. It's all about selling Gold subscriptions at this point.

I am aware it's not all about me. I did a quick review of the single player only exclusives, from what I gather they did not sell well on the Xbox One. If xbox owners were clamoring for SP exclusives, surely they'd sell a bit better on the system (I say a bit better due to the overall lower average of SP exclusive game scores).

If xbox owners are sitting around waiting for big exclusive single player experiences, they are better off trading for a ps4.

I'd love to see Fable come back too, because I would bet it would have a complete co-op experience.

We are talking first party titles here, you can get Mass Effect Andromeda on other platforms.

Let's not detract from the issue here, MS need to bring IP's like Zelda/Horizon to the table, rather than rely on third party games only.

There is no need to because they already answered that.

Forza Horizon 3 is a better open world game than Horizon.

I'm assuming this is a joke. Racing games are a completely separate genre, thus in no way is Forza an answer to open world action adventure games such as Horizon and Zelda.

True as that may be, this generation made me buy a PS system which is something I've never done. Been an Xbox fan since I got the very first one with Kotor, but they're really lacking in terms of major exclusive juggernauts right now.

Not only that, the outburst of amazing games that only Sony players get to enjoy is incredible, I'm finally sinking my teeth in Uncharted, plus I just bought Nier and Horizon, and I'm considering tackling Bloodborne sooner rather than later.

I mean, my Xbox is now the de-facto multiplat console and ironically for MS, these days I just turn it on to watch Netflix/YouTube/Twitch or whatever other streaming service, because there's no other use I really give to that machine thus far.

Here's hoping Cuphead finally comes out, Sea of Thieves delivers and the next Halo blows everyone's socks away. They really need a big hit.

.

For what it's worth, the MP-oriented games you already mentioned are available on ps4, too.

At this point the best justification for choosing xbox over ps4 is to pretend the latter just doesn't exist. Ps4 has practically everything on xbox and more.

God, if Scalebound didn't get canceled and delivered it would have been sick. We'd have had three fantasy open-world games coming out from the big three console manufacturers, all getting glowing reviews and all coming out within the same time frame. That's some old-school console wars shit.

Agreed. Its Not Even a contest.

You're right. It's not a contest...considering racing is a completely different genre compared to third person action/adventure games such as Horizon and Zelda.

For what it's worth, I really enjoyed Forza Horizon 3. Not nearly as much as Horizon Zero Dawn though.

It's a matter of preference. My friends are on XB, I like how XBL performs/ is set up, and I find the Xbox controller vastly superior to the DS4. I don't consider the PS4 power difference that significant, if I wanted better performance I would end up gaming on a PC again. I know those might seem insignificant, but to me it's everything.

I own an XB1S and a PS4.

Why MS need to bring IP's like Zelda/Horizon when For honor might outsold both and sold better on Xbox one?
A game is a game whether it's made by Ubisoft, EA, Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft. They just need to build a system that can play most popular games the best, show third party publisher how profitable when their games release on Xbox.
The goal is build attractive video game platform, take a cut from every games as platform holder and release profitable games occasionally.

Edit: Sorry, mess up For Honor sales.

He more or less copies and pastes his answers, tweets. I don't read what he has to say anymore, I got bored of it.

I want the man to do well but I'm not convinced. He probably wonders why there is a little disconcerting going on with some fans, show them a new game or one coming soon then not a bc game or a controller!

I know, I was being sarcastic. He's doing a terrible job.

For Honor is multi platform, if a multi platform game is good it's quite obvious it will sell more than an exclusive title due to the bigger audience, but it's not like Horizon or Zelda sold terribly is it.

So you are saying you wouldn't want an exclusive game on Xbox that's of the same class as Horizon & Zelda? Didn't For Honor sell more on Xbox due to the amount of games coming out on the PS4 in the same period, giving people more choice.

Is this just US sales figures again or do we have world wide numbers?

OG Xbox was my favourite MS system, but I feel pretty confident in saying nobody was jealous of Blood Wake.

I like how you put corporation first. I'm sure the OP was wondering what MS's answer was to their competitors sales projections, not pedigree.
