What are you going on about. It's the Winter White House, a historical and treasured symbol of American exceptionalism and manifest destiny

The best is when Trump said it was always meant to be the Winter White House when it was initially conceived or built lmao.

Richard Engel just said it's the least he(Trump) could do to create a complete narrative. Chemical attack launched from that airfield, so that airfield is destroyed and now Trump has the opportunity to declare himself powerful and a leader. Engel added that if this was a substantial attack, Russians and the troops USA has on the ground would be at risk, so obviously that's not what this is.

Anyone have information on how limiting destroying this airfield is to Syria? Like, is this one of several operation airfields, or what?

It's like an internal version of having a Simpsons .GIF for everything: An admonishing Trump tweet directed at Obama every time Trump does that same thing but worse.

EDIT: Beaten...

You misspelled "super racist" but sure.

If any Trump voters were actually isolationists, they're probably kind of bummed.

A lot of them were and it looks like quite a few of them are. It'll definitely be interesting to see how they further respond, though I doubt they'll stray for dear leader too mcuh

He was handed this plan -this afternoon-, and this is after it was leaked to the media! People in the chain of command were so concerned at the level of crazy that they leaked info about a surprise military strike! Actual treason! And their fears have been proven to be justified!

His approval rating will go UP now. So long as no American's die because of this, it may start an upswing for him.

This is a country with a lot of fatigue about the whole Middle East, not just the violence we've helped inflict on it. For years, that fatigue has kept our involvement in Syria as stilted as it has been. And now, in a matter of days, the president has gone from "oh no, we're not doing that, wasn't Iraq so bad" to launching missiles on military targets in direct response to their chemical attacks. It must feel "good" or "right" for some people but it isn't like we had a long national conversation about our future involvement in Syria or our specific goals there.

Trump just bombed some shit because he felt like it. It will only strengthen the feeling that this guy is unhinged and uneven in carrying out his duties, and that's already become a really strong first impression at home and abroad. Is that going to make people feel better, you think?

Uuuuuhhh did someone mispeak? I was just listening and they said they did inform them.

What? Someone asked Trump if Putin/Russian officials were told beforehand hand and he said no.

There is a list of countries that were informed and Russia is not on it.

Lolwut?! You actually believe the Kremlin, which has poured its military and financial assets, at great expense to itself, into propping up the Assad regime is HAPPY that Trump (their supposed ally) is now bombing the shit out of their Baathist friends?? Yeah sure buddy.

The gas attack could have been something Russia doesn't actually approve even if they don't publicly show that.
Also, letting the US attack lets out some steam.
Counter-intuitive for sure, but possible.

Not sure i believe myself though.

The ideal solution would have been No-Fly zone since 2012, but since UN cannot do anything since Russia are blocking every resolution against Assad, there was not so many solution here.

Obama should have done the same thing, i am honestly surprised and happy that Assad is getting stabbed by Trump, but wait and see what will follow...

That was a no win situation. What do we do when Russia violates the no fly zone? How large of a conflict are you willing to risk?

A lot of them were and it looks like quite a few of them are. It'll definitely be interesting to see how they further respond, though I doubt they'll stray for dear leader too mcuh

If this doesn't turn them off of Trump, then it kind of calls into question the sensibility of calling them isolationists, doesn't it?

What? Someone asked Trump if Putin/Russian officials were told beforehand hand and he said no.

There is a list of countries that were informed and Russia is not on it.

I was listening maybe 15 min ago and they said they opposite.

Interesting.

If this is just a one off strike then it won't be all that consequential. The military equivalent of a slap on the wrist. We'll see I guess.

Next up ISIS doing something else terrible in the Kurdish part of Iraq.
Leading to further US military intervention and arming.
And then that lead to an independent Kurdistan which US can use as a base.

Trump just fired 70 cruise missiles into another country, Do you have any faith that this was a considered, tactical decision or do you think he just saw something on fox news and had at worst an emotional response or the other worst wanted something to make him more popular?

Because the second one gets lots and lots of people killed. Nothing we have seen to date suggests the second one wouldn't be the case.

Given that this is supposedly limited attack, didn't target command and control, etc. This seems to be the best possible action to take, if an action is to be taken. Sure, he had a change of heart from watching TV but so far we aren't into "gets lots and lots of people killed" territory yet.

The bad comes from any response from the Assad regime, how this escalates at all, and how Trump reacts. Give it a day or two and wait for further developments before freaking out too much.

CNBC Reporting Russia was warned

The U.S. warned the Russians before launching at least 59 tomahawk missiles aimed at Syria, NBC News reported, citing a U.S. official.

The strikes, which hit an airfield near Homs, struck aircraft and infrastructure including the runway, NBC reported. There is no word on casualties yet, but no people were targeted, the official told NBC.

No Russian assets were targeted, according to the report.

Russia's deputy U.N. envoy, Vladimir Safronkov, warned earlier Thursday of "negative consequences" if the U.S. carried out military strikes on Syria over the attack.

*shrug*

If this doesn't turn them off of Trump, then it kind of calls into question the sensibility of calling them isolationists, doesn't it?

Yeah they just need to hear Fox News and breitbart praise their dear leader for how awesome he is and they will immediately fall back in line.

Unconfirmed reports of Russian/Syrian shoot downs of some of the Tomahawk missiles.

I stress unconfirmed, but it could explain why Schiff said 70 missiles, but Pentagon officially said 59.

It's hypocritical but ultimately a good move I think. Just got to hope it was evaluated correctly before striking.

Americans just handed the party of the Iraq war full control of government a few months ago. So, not that tired.

Trump ran against Clinton being a warmonger....

Also, when Obama proposed this very course of action the country was bitterly against it so we'll see.
