he's not wrong. Russia are responsible for the Assad regime. The fact they didn't put up any fight to this action is an admission of failure on their part.

These are precision guided cruise missiles. Not necessarily bunker busters. They are meant to strike trucks, buildings, bases, with fast accuracy. They carry hundreds of pounds to 1000+ pounds of explosive. Likely they leveled everything near the airbase, but wouldn't leave a massive crater on the runway and packed earth.

There is a general consensus against Assad that was blocked by Russia. It's not the same as Irak. I think that it's the job of the UN to change regime that are butchering their own people or other people. UN are not democratic because of the permanent security concil so you have situation where the general consensus cannot be enforced, like in Syria or in Palestine.
 
I just got a pit in my stomach when CNN just aired the missiles being launched from the ships. Reminded me of Desert Storm and of course after 9/11. God damn it.

It's interesting that Trump's statement following the attacks focused solely on chemical weapons, the same restricted objective that Sec Kerry envisioned a few years ago. By limiting the objective to something specific, and setting military action around it, you can act without committing to the conflict as a whole. It wasn't even an airfield, much less all of their airfields, but rather the same one these planes allegedly landed on. And even then, the Pentagon had to try avoid Russian military.

Tbh, if we're going to have an international treaty that saws no chemical weapons, the entire world needs to get their shit together and make sure there are consequences for Assad using chemical weapons. It should've happened many years ago.

Yeah he isn't wrong, but I'm glad see he is using strong language given his relationship with Russia.
 
Theres going to be more to this. Assad is going to be removed and then ISIS has to be kept at bay at the same time

Welp. We might be in for another 10-15 years

Yeah the problem is that if you instlall some sort of moderate regime ISIL isn't just going to go away. In fact they will just be further emboldened.

You can't win in Syria unless you iradicate Islamic extremists and that's impossible.

We still can't seem to get understand that about Iraq or Afghanistan. It's the same thing in Syria.

And it's very difficult to say removing Assad is actually a better course of action than just leaving him be.

The US and whoever you install essentially become Assad (or Saddam).

You can't win.

US secretary of state Rex Tillerson and national security adviser HR McMaster are also now briefing reporters at Mar-a-Lago shortly; they were in Florida to consult with Trump ahead of the strike.

Tillerson says Russia has failed to carry out its responsibilities under the 2013 agreement designed to rid Assad of his chemical weapons stocks.

So, do Trump supporters accept that the missile attack actually happened, or does the fact that major news outlets reporting it mean they *know* this is just fake news?
 
I'm not going to lie. I'm uneducated in foreign affairs, so I don't understand how I should feel or how this will end. But seeing even alt-right people turn on Donald has me very worried

That's about as direct a shot at Russia as we've seen in a while. Putin probably regrets hacking the DNC right about now.

At least if Hillary had won, he could count on the spineless Republicans who only play team politics to condemn any actions taken by Hillary. When it comes to Trump, he's got the base in his corner, and the rest of the party by their balls.

Makes me wonder if the most damning Trump-Russia stuff is about to come out, and Trump is preemptively going all out to prove he's not a puppet.
