Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

Perfect time for Spring Man.

But yeah, guess we'll be getting release dates for ARMS and Splatoon 2 from this - maybe another testfire announcement for the latter. Not sure if we'll get a game announcement, though maybe some previously unannounced indie title will be coming.

Sure, but if it's over in 12 months, and they're not releasing another game, that's still not an astonishing situation for the game long term.

I'd rather they have some kind of monetization plan and then support it throughout the generation, unless as previously mentioned, they just intend to keep releasing new ones.

I don't really see why they wouldn't. The unit sales they make from it are not at all insignificant, so it can't be bad business to do that, right?

Oh good, this means they haven't given up on Directs like I was worried they had. I was just expecting them to dump a few videos explaining the games/release dates.

I expect no information at all about the VC. That's for E3 at the earliest.

If we are REALLY lucky, they end with a Smash teaser for Splatoon and ARMS characters in the eventual Smash 4 port.
Hopefully we get information on some smaller titles like Picross Switch or something like that.

Ah yes, it is clear that Mario Kart is among the two games being discussed here.
Was wondering where he was going with this... Splatoon 2 is a new game and ARMS an new IP lol.

I expected nothing until E3, haha. This is very welcomed!

My guesses, that could happen:
- Arms (obvious)
- Splatoon 2 (obvious)
- Mayo Katy 8 Deluxe (releasing in April)
- Fire Emblem Warriors (new info)
- Fire Emblem Echoes (coming very soon)
- Pikmin 3DS (new info + final name? + expected launch date?)
- Ever Oasis (new info)
- New 3DS game
- New Switch game
- Switch online info
- Virtual Console
- Third parties we already know
- New info for E3

May not happen, some I would like to happen, some don't care (trying to be realistic, the megatons will be in E3):
- Smash 4 Switch announcement
- Mario Odyssey new trailer + info
- Bayonetta 1+2 Switch (tomorrow @ Steam (only Bayo 1), the day after tomorrow at Switch (both))
- Xenoblade 2 new trailer + info
- Shin Megami Tensei Switch new info
- Persona 5 Portable announcement
- Pikmin 4
- Pokemon Stars/Eclipse (I like the eclipse name, and sounds much better) for Switch
- Another Wii U port
- Level 5 new games for... 3DS
- Netflix, Youtube,... for Switch
- Skyward Sword HD for Switch
- Some new third party ports

Don't forget that Pikmin 3DS game. Nintendo has those three exclusives coming to the 3DS still. That's not counting 3rd party...

Definitely want Deep Strange Journey, but there's also Etrian Odyssey 5, MHXX (I'm starting to doubt this one will come over... on 3DS), and Radiata Historia remake.

Yeah I meant to add Pikmin 3DS and forgot.

Don't care at all about ARMS or Splatoon but it's a Nintendo Direct. It is just impossible to not be hyped about a Nintendo Direct.

It's mainly a resource contention issue. For example, these people also normally make Animal Crossing.

That said, digital revenue from crates or whatever can also be very significant, so it depends on what route you want to take.

Had to look twice when seeing "Nintendo Direct." Not expecting any megatons this close to E3 but it should be good nonetheless. Can't wait.

Release Splatoon 2 first pls

Very unlikely at this point - ARMS has been slated for Spring and Splatoon 2 for Summer since January, and IIRC Splatoon 2 was confirmed to not be coming till after June. Presumably it releases before the Obon holiday in August in Japan. July seems like a safe bet.

Sorry. I meant to put Pikmin 3DS too. Also ARMS release for late May. Hopefully late June or July date for Splatoon 2.

NP! I agree about ARMS. As I mentioned in my reply to Garrett above I think Splatoon 2 is July.

Can your only 3DS announcement at this direct be that you're finally dropping the system, Nintendo? K thx.

I very much doubt that will be the case given what Nintendo has said about continued support for the system. I think we will see some cross-platform titles and some continued smaller exclusives through the end of this year and probably into mid next year given the install base. For example they just launched Mario Maker to massive success, I don't think they will be giving up on 3DS yet. The rumored Pokémon third version could also be cross-platform.

Hm, the day before the weekly eShop update, eh? Virtual Console incoming!

No, I don't really believe this.

I think it's possible this will at least connote something download-only coming after the Direct. Probably BOXBOY! 3 for the US.

Thanks! I wasn't super into ARMS when I saw it during the reveal, but the more they show, I'm way into it!.

NP!

I don't think we'll be hearing anything VC related until E3, probably with more details of their online plans then.

I agree. That seems like a good time for them to discuss this.

For sure. As I said above I do think continued 3DS support is happening based on what Nintendo has said about it (and on how much is riding on Switch).

It not like the whole team would be needed to keep the update train going. Also Nintendo is charging for Online multilayer this time... Probably because they keep to maintain and update titles like Splatoon 2 over the course of a generation. Don't hint they'll need to charge (much) more in addition to that.

Is there even a way for Switch owners to watch the direct on their device? lol

I guess it'll show up in the news section after the fact

Ah, I see. Didn't know they did multiple projects with that team. Yeah, it'll probably help to insert some engagement helpers (and revenue providers) like microtransitions if the next Splatoon is multiple (3-5) years off still.
