Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

New stages or an adventure mode though I would say fits into "upgraded port" territory. When I hear "new game" that brings visions of redeveloping and slowly announcing previously existent characters, etc. like had to be done for Melee/Brawl/WiiU.

I'm expecting it to be Smash 4 base like Splatoon 2, but to be considered Smash 5 (or 6 is you count 3DS). By calling it Smash 5, it'll allow them to take a base and cut/add stuff to it. If you get a championship edition, you should have stuff only added and tweaked. Smash 5 means you can cut or add to your desire. And feed drip info isn't necessary with returning characters. They can have a huge character based intro to the game coming to Switch- showing off all returning characters then start the new info feed drip.

But I'm OK with a Championship Edition if they add all the DLC, give Cloud his English voiceover, add a Subspace like story mode and some new characters and stages. Ice Climbers can finally return.

Wait, the phone app isn't out yet? I don't have a Switch so I ignore a lot of things about the console, but what's the online functionality looking like as of today? What about chat, messages, multiplayer, lobbies, invites?

Multiplayer is currently free but there's no physical option to invite people to games yet or any communication options beyond adding people you've recently played against. Most online games just have a play with friends option in the menu.

They are probably saving that for E3.

I bet E3 will give us an announcement of Smash port, one unannounced retail Switch game for this year, VC, and a bunch of 2018 stuff.

yeah, but I'd really like buying (again) some snes games before E3.

"one unannounced retail Switch game" Metroid is real!!

Surprised that Nintendo's been slowing down on the amount of Directs they've been making, still excited for this one though.

Only the jetpack distinctly felt right: powerful and easy to use with an obvious drawback. Splatdown was too weak (needs larger AoE,), the missiles and the Stingray were too slow. Stingray should have a turn speed closer to the heavy splatling.

All of the Splatoon 2 specials are designed to be more situational to avoid many of the "I win" situations the previous Bubble, Kraken and Inkzooka gave in the last game.

Count how many times Tower Control matches were won because someone bumrushed to the tower and spammed an invuln special, with almost nothing the enemy team can do about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they couldn't get Cloud's English VA since said VA refused to do non-union work (I.E. Smash 4). I remember hearing this from an interview that Source Gaming did with Kyle Hebert (Ryu's English VA), but I could be misremembering the quote.

Fuck I had totally forgotten MP won't be free on the Switch. Basically online functionality will be fully enabled once this app comes out, right? I'd expect the console to be capable of handling some of those things, guess not?

With Splatoon 2 and ARMS being heavily online I'm sure they'll explain it during this Direct.

So this will announce Spring Man and Inkling for Smash for the Switch, right?
I'm not sure if we'd get a Smash 4 Deluxe reveal during this Direct. And while Inkling would be a safe bet if Smash 4 Deluxe is an actual thing with new characters, it may be a bit too soon for Spring Man to show up (unless it's a Greninja situation & the Smash 4 team was in contact with the ARMS team during the latter's development).

I want to see more Marie. Also once again people are raising their expectations too high. I look forward to everyone's inevitable disappointment.

I wonder if a localization of Yokai Watch 3 will be announced? Seems like a good time to do it.

The fact they're going to announce new 3DS games in April makes me think E3 is going to be entirely Switch, which is great.

Yes but the paid service is suppose to have a free trail starting in the Summer, so I would assume it would be for these games, which would also make sense for them to start talking about the service now along with these games.

I thought it was assumed that the free trial is a go now, people are playing Bomberman, Fast Racing etc online for free.

Im expecting an HD remaster of Primes, a new IP from Retro, a XCX sequel, a XC2 release date, Bayonetta 3 with Bayonetta 2 port and Pokemon Stars.

Let's go all in this hype train, mfers!

The app comes out this summer for free, I assume thats the free trial of the full online service

I may need to re look at the wording

Pretty much on point minus mobile stuff.

I'm not expecting much beyond ARMS/Splatoon, but I'm happy to get a release date for both.

The 3DS games are important here. They need to announce some localization dates.

I'm expecting most of the emphasis on ARMS and Splatoon as has been promised. Everything else I have no idea.

But I'm not expecting Smash Switch or Virtual Console information until E3.

I'd quite like a new themed Switch design to be announced...as it's likely launch hardware issues will have been fixed for that.

Xeno X rebranded as Xenocross for Switch with new sawano tracks and some adjusting in the sound mixing (flight song option)

give me that sawano goodness :D

A rebate on Mario Kart if you own it for WiiU please

I'm not counting on it, but given that regardless of whether you own MK8 in physical or digital format, they can tell if you have the DLC packs attached to your account, the best I'm hoping for is that full DLC ownership on the Wii U gets you a digital discount on MK8D. That might be good enough to push me over the edge, especially as I intend to grab MK8D digitally if I ever pick it up at all.

One other thing not discussed in this thread: with online functionality being rolled out for the combination of MK8D/Arms/Splatoon, this would be a good time to hear about a systems patch that improves the friend-finding features (through social network integration) or expands the screenshot sharing. For all that MK8D is bringing to the table, remember that it's rolling back Miiverse features (a parallel achievement system of its own on the Wii U) and video editing/sharing (the raison d'être for the whole MKTV theme that pervades MK8 all the way to its Rainbow Road design).

Nintendo might announce an updated Amiibo NFC reader/writer with bluetooth capabilities during this Direct.

If anyone remembers, an updated version went up on the FCC's database late last year. The confidentiality period for external photos, instruction manual, etc are going to be lifted on the 18th.

You know what'd be a nice little Switch surprise for this Direct? The Disney Afternoon Collection. Mike Mika said it'd be easy to bring over to Switch. C'mon Capcom.

Why would they do that tho, joy-cons already have NFC built-in.
