Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

So, they'll talk about the release dates here.

ARMS seems on lock for late May, since that's when Nintendo likes to release big games and it will be approximately one month after MK8 Deluxe.

Splatoon? Who knows. The earliest it could hit would be late June. But Nintendo prefers August/September to June/July for big releases.

Both Arms and Splatoon 2 are both multiplayer heavy games. They (plus MK8d) are also going to be the IP's driving the Switch until they holiday season.

I expect release dates and further information about online play, the Nintendo Switch app, etc.

Following this direct i would begin to see marketing for these games to start appearing.

Saying that, any other software reveals will be something to compliment these two titles. Other multiplayer games for example. Although i think this will be the case, i think it would make more sense to reveal a big single player game as well as Splatoon and ARMS kind of speak to the same crowd.

I love Nintendo, but i still know that there is little to nothing appealing enough about the software to buy into it right now.

I mean... what? You're getting probably the best single year of software output on a single platform in the company's entire history, including the strongest launch title since at least Wii Sports and definitely since Mario 64 before that, and yet I keep seeing people say "there's just not enough."

Expecting release dates for ARMS and Splatoon 2 plus maybe some Zelda DLC and/or amiibo details.

If those two games are launching in the next two months, anything else will be probably be left for E3.

i would expect a bit more than just these two games.

launch -> e3 with this in the middle means it's a good venue for third-parties to announce stuff.

Here it is the new game announcement-Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker 2 for Nintendo Switch! Please I want this. It's a nice size game announcement that works for a April direct!

But what? Some indies I could imagine but what is to there to announce from third partes?

Rumored Dark Souls trilogy? Proper release date for Skyrim? There's a good chance for something from SquEnix, maybe an American release for Dragon Quest Heroes?

...UNDERTALE port?
Pleaaaaaase.

an undertale port needs to happen even if i have to do it myself.

Outside of Zelda the current lineup for the Switch is looking dry and I think mainly it has to do with the third party output.

When nintendo systems in the past launched they may have only had 1 or 2 games worth getting but the large amount of third party releases made it appear as if the library was a lot better than it actually was. This mainly applies to the Gamecube, Wii, and WiiU.

For me personally though I think the last time Nintendo had a great first year lineup was with the Gamecube.

Rogue Squadron 2
Luigis Mansion
Super Smash Bros Melee
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime
Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Wave Race
Resident Evil (Gamecube Remake)

And this was just in the systems first year.

The Switch just released and has a solid line up that we know of but with the lack of third party releases it appears more sparse than it is.

Are you talking about the LDK's Dark Souls rumor? If so I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen, especially how sketchy the rumor itself was.

I dunno about any LDK, but Let's Play Video Games was talking about it and their information has a tendency to be spot on. Based on that news, it might be a little early for From to commit - but it also might be just late enough, especially if they were already working on it a bit last year and are impressed by the console's so-far-solid sales.

Edit: Oh, did you mean Laura Kate Dale? In which case, yes, that is what I mean. The person who has shown herself to be extremely well-informed when it comes to Switch rumors.

Switch Predictions:
  • Zelda DLC info
  • Firmware update with maybe media apps and better online features coming before Mario Kart release.
  • Release dates for ARMS and Splatoon
  • Indie Showcase or game announcement

3DS Predictions:
  • Price drop/new model. $100.
  • New Nintendo Selects
  • Pikmin 3DS.
  • Bonus: something completely out of the blue

I don't think Smash or Pokken are gonna be revealed just yet. I'd imagine they'd want to give their new fighting game IP room to breath and a Smash port would be the opposite of room. Arguably the same would go for Pokken but not as much.

I think E3 would be a better time for that.

I'm still really hoping for GameCube virtual console to be true. Sunshine would be botched but Air Ride would be Perfect...

I have a Wii U.
:P
Honestly, with BotW, Splatoon and MK8 available to me, I'm not in a rush. When Odessey releases - it's ON!

¯_(ツ)_/¯ Though I'd imagine one of the three projects they're working on is planned to release on the Switch

Retro's game is almost certainly DK-related. Expecting anything else is just asking for disappointment.

Evb said it definitely was Donkey Kong and that David Wise is suppose to be on it. They've leaked stuff before but who knows....¯_(ツ)_/¯

Zelda is god like but they definitely need to give more of a reason to bite. Mario looks fantastic but is at the end of the year. Splatoon looks too much of the same. Mario Kart 8 is a port. ARMS is questionable.

I have no faith in Xenoblade 2 coming in 2017, at least in America.

I guess for me this is just the first Nintendo platform release where I think I'm actually going to get more third-party games than first-party ones.

Just based on content currently planned for this year, here's what I'm planning to get:

- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Super Bomberman R
- Snipperclips
- Fast RMX
- The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+
- Shovel Knight Treasure Trove (only played original campaign on Wii U)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Rime
- Puyo Puyo Tetris
- Ultra Street Fighter II
- Arms
- Cave Story +
- Splatoon 2
- Sonic Mania
- Yooka-Laylee
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Minecraft: Switch Edition
- Stardew Valley
- Terraria
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2

And we're not even at its first E3 yet. That's an incredible lineup of content. And I've only played a couple of these games before (Mario Kart, Shovel Knight, Cave Story, Skyrim).

It's one reason why I'm stoked for these Nintendo Directs - I know this isn't all that'll be coming this year, and I'm super jazzed to find out more.

I still believe in a December 2017 release
for Europe and Oceania. ;)
. It's highly possible that they're localising alongside development, and Mitsuda is already recording the music!

I mean I would flip my shit if it happened but it just seems impossible.

EDIT: I'm at least hopeful it would be somewhat early in 2018... like around this time next year maybe.

i don't think you can really judge a whole lot based on a wii u game doing poorly.
I'm sure Retro guys sitting at home then at E3 sees DKCTF announced to so much negativity because people don't want them to make DK wouldn't impact them on if they should make another DK game.

It got lesser reviews and bs lies from the media in reviews. There's no way in my mind they're making another DK game.

Mother 3 Switch port, I would pay full price for it

It's time we finally hear about this at E3, if true. Didn't Emily and someone else say it is coming?

Going to guess that we will see news on an ARMS beta, it seems like a game that could benefit from some live testing plus it gives switch owners more to play.

I'd hope so. It'd be a smart move. That's one game I'd like to try before buying it. It looks cool but I'm skeptical.

Really excited for this. These are the 2 games I'm looking at for getting a Switch around this summer, so am hoping ARMS impresses.

Would like to see them taking a much deeper dive into the differences they're making for Splatoon 2, compared to the original. I think they've done a good job underlying and re-introducing the core concept of Turf War and the way the game plays, but there's still a waft of "Yep, it's just more Splatoon" or "Splatoon 1.5" stuff floating around. Would like to see them go into detail about some of the new game modes, gameplay changes, and the additional features (like the Spectator Mode and other new online functionalities). Most of these things seem like no-brainers to talk about in a partially Splatoon-focused direct, it's just that Nintendo really likes their slow drip. Don't want just another high-level gameplay re-introduction video with a new stage.

Should be interesting what they reveal now and what they save for E3 (assuming "summer" means after E3).

Should have been launch with Zelda and 1-2 Switch. But totally agree that it would be a perfect game for Switch.

I think they're leaving late May for Street Fighter.

Nintendo is even publishing it in Europe

Think they will announce reprints for the 30th Anniversary Zelda amiibo here? I remember them putting an announcement in a Direct for Marth's restock before Codename Steam released.

I mean part of the problem was it being on Wii U to be honest. Plus if Retro wants to make another DK game fans aren't gonna stop them.

Seriously though let them make whatever game they want.
I don't care what they make. I don't think as a developer I would make a game when people don't want us to make it. It was negatively received. TF is considered one of the greatest 2D Platformers ever. I just don't see another 2D DK from them.

I've said on multiple occasions I would love for them to make a 3D DK. Like a great open world DK game.
