Yeah this is very specific indonesian issue, but 212 act itself surprisingly under reported in western news outlet considering how major and mind baffling the story is.

They also said that disciplinary action will be taken against the artist.
The artist however, is not repentant at all and is spouting some garbage against Marvel.

He should take his own advice. Buy stacks of the comic. Sell one for, what, $2 above RRP every time he needs to buy something.
There are too many artists in the comic book industry who will happily take his current job, and all future jobs he would of had. Inserting the messages into the comic was dumb but not following it with a groveling apology is career-ending, drawing web-comics under a pseudonym dumb.

It's an X-men book and Marvel ain't got no time for that.
Maybe he can deliver within a tight schedule? That seems to be the most important quality in an artist for most comic publishers.

Speaking about the verse, it doesn't mean that Muslims can't have Christian and Jewish friends. The verse was revealed after a big loss that Muslims faced and they were scared for their lives. So some people were going to Christians and Jews to seek protection (guardianship), instead of protecting each other

I guess they have rotating artists on arcs like some Rebirth books, so...is Gold bi monthly? If so his work will still be there for a few months. Unless they delay everything and edit out any subliminal stuff with a fine tooth comb.
It's good that the Marvel and DC try to give new talent a big chance like that, at least. Hopefully Gold goes on to be a better book once he is gone.
I feel like problems with Islamic relgious followings stems from not realizing the context behind the verses and thinking the context is the modern/all times.
Reading the Quran, and the section about not taking the Jews/Christians as your guradians, should be read as after the trade war/real war that was going on at the time, Muslims were ordered to not surrender and give up to the Jews/Christians but stay under the muslim leadership despite the losses.
Same thing with Halal food. Halal food back when the Quran was written was the most safe and humane way to butcher animals and the ban against Pigs was kept from the Torah because they were frequent carriers of diseases that can effect humans. That doesn't mean you have to prepare meat the same exact way as it was back in those years. There are safer and more humane ways and pigs being the host of human diseases is no longer a big concern due to modern advances.

I've been quite unimpressed with a lot of the art since the Secret Wars relaunch. It seems that a lot of the old guard left and they've been trying new artists who simply haven't been up to scratch.

Islam is an Abrahamic religion in the tradition of Judaism and Christianity and inherits much from both of them.
In practical terms, only a very small minority of Muslims take a fundamentalist approach to this edict. Even groups like Al Qaeda don't adhere to it, beyond prohibiting images of God or the prophets/religious figures.

Many schools actually have art classes and there are several local comics and picture books available everywhere, drawn by the people living there.
He didn't draw Colossus as Mohammed, I doubt he'd get shot in the street for putting some quran verses in the background of an X-Men comic.
There are schools in muslim majority states in Nigeria that have art classes. Unless he was drawing the prophet i doubt he will be prosecuted

We have already seen what a toxic and tragic combination Islam and drawings can be...
Anyway, reading a bit more about drawings and Islam gives me hope: If the same sort of effort that went in to justify the use of drawings/3D models/etc in the modern Muslim worldview is applied to other issues, Islam can become a bit more relaxed...
I also muslim but I admit I also a bit ignorant to the subject and just repeating to what being said to this adrian dude, maybe I should also be more careful with that.
