Seriously though, that would be hilarious just to see the insane meltdown from PC focused personalities like Totalbiscuit. His rage would be very entertaining to watch.
I'm not going to get too excited. That way if there's a proper mic drop moment like Pokemon Stars or VC I can be free to climax and it will be all the better.
Otherwise it will be just another cycle of hype building and then the inevitable:
I honestly believe that the moment for this gif would be if they did indeed announce Pokemon Stars for 2017 ..on 3DS. There's your troll moment from Nintendo.
Personally, I think that's exactly what will happen, not necessarily at the direct but at some point Stars will be announced for the 3DS and there will be something else on the Switch.

Half the list has yet to surface and most of them seem like easy guesses. Beyond Good and Evil being semi reboot actually lines up with the small announcements we had a few months ago.

*shudder* I think I might have a meltdown if Stars was a 3DS exclusive. Partly because I skipped Sun and Moon on 3DS, partly because I fricking love Pokemon RPGs and partly because it would be so mind bendingly, head smashingly stupid on the part of Game Freak / The Pokemon Company / Nintendo (who, don't forget, own like 1/3 of Pokemon).
I could very easily see Stars being a 3DS / Switch cross gen game. 3DS exclusive though? That would be lunacy. I wouldn't put it past them though. And yes, it would probably be a bigger troll than that FF7 remaster one at this point. If I was Nintendo I'd be putting a lot of pressure on GF to get Stars out on Switch. Nintendo know what a system seller Pokemon is and let's not kid ourselves, they have probably got a fair bit of influence over GF, even if it's a different company - they're the only platform GF's Pokemon games come out on.

Unlike Bayonetta 2, Valve has the money and man power to release Half Life 3 whenever they want. They just don't care about that fanbase anymore, the money is in microtransactions.

Actually, Sun and Moon killed any hype I had for future Pokemon games. It's the first Pokemon game I put down after finishing the main game because the National Dex is basically locked behind a paywall and even then, it's still outside of the game.
With every previous Pokemon gen I'd spend months playing them and make a living Pokedex with one of every single Pokemon. And completing the National Dex in the process. I have no desire to go catch all the Pokemon now or do any postgame stuff now.
Reminder: A Rumor means that full Switch exclusivity is also pure speculation at this point.

If the overworld walking/running Pokémon animations are for Stars (they probably are), then it's not happening on 3DS.

I feel like Stars has to be cross platform with 3DS at best. There is just no way Nintendo can ignore that huge player base. I know they want to sell Switches, but it is very early in its life to give it an exclusive as big as Pokémon while they have tens of millions of 3DS owners out there as potential buyers.
For sure I don't expect they show stuff that are coming after E3 (except for Spl2 which could be coming shortly after E3).

I think conversion is kinda the point on this one. 3DS players who were really hooked by Sun and Moon would (ideally) see a Switch-exclusive Stars and say "Oh I have to buy a Switch now."
Though I could also see the case for it being better off multiplatform. But I think the appeal of it being a Switch system seller is apparent to Nintendo.

What are the chances that Nintendo says that your local retail store will be stocked with Nintendo switch in the upcoming weeks? I hope so because I really don't want to overpay for one.
If that Eurogamer rumour about Stars hadn't existed, the thought of Pokémon shifting to Switch before Generation VIII would have been laughed off.
They need to keep compatibility for battles and trades across all games in the generation, both online and locally. That is a major factor in Pokémon and if that's not possible, then it needs to be on the 3DS only.

They have been restocking constantly. The past two weeks alone Walmart,Target, Toys R Us, best buy and gamestop received switch hardware and accessories.

I was thinking... Maybe this Direct will be very 3DS focused, that way Nintendo won't have to waste too much time on it at E3.
Stars will sell 5+Million LTD easily as a Switch exclusive, it's a main line pokemon at the end of the day, and will drive Hardware sales through the roof for the weeks around launch. As a cross platform title, I'd hazard to guess what the split would be, or what impact it would have on Switch hardware sales.
As an exclusive, it's whether or not the money brought in from hardware sales is enough to offset the several million less sales you would get if it were cross platform.

Remember when at E3 2012, Nintendo decided to have a dedicated 3DS conference, making it seem like they'd just focus entirely on the Wii U at their main conference only for them to still have 3DS shit there anyway? lol
The safest and most cost effective solution (imo) would be Sun & Moon HD this Summer, and Pokemon Stars for 3DS & Switch in 2018.
No new assets need to be developed for the rerelease. Just up the resolution and do some optimization. Devs get experience working on the Switch and Nintendo doesn't alienate existing 3DS users. Come 2018 3DS gets a final sendoff and Switch should have a bigger player base post Splatoon & Mario.

Also, don't forget that Nintendo don't exactly control Pokémon. It's not their choice and Game Freak aren't necessarily bothered with boosting Switch up fast.
Hence my last sentence, I'd definitely think Nintendo would much rather shift millions of their new consoles than millions of a game on an old console.

Yeah. People keep forgetting about the whole connectivity thing. Connectivity is a HUGE part of Pokémon and they've never cut it off mid-generation before and I highly doubt they ever would.
It's also highly unlikely they'd start a new generation after just a year, which is another thing people think would happen. We can judge these things by the progression of the anime. We're 6 months in and Ash has done 1 trial and 1 grand trial. Still 6 trials and 3 Grand Trials to go, with the probability of a league at the end.
I'm not saying Stars isn't happening. I'm just saying there's a lot of stuff that'd need to be done and that cross platform 3DS/Switch would be far more logical and would aid in the connectivity features. Hell, look at how Festival Plaza handles friends separately to the 3DS Friend List. That shows there's something afoot.

I want Bayonetta on PC, but I'm hoping they announce it for the Switch as well. $20 for each version, or $30-$35 for a bundle.

I think it will even be before E3. I do believe that Pokemon Stars will come to Switch and 3DS, but Switch will have more features and of course better graphics.
Double also, I expect an immediate announcement of another direct at the end of this one focusing on a specific franchise (please be Animal Crossing).

My prediction as well. I'm hoping to get a solid release date​ for Splatoon 2 at least.

Ever Oasis is hardly a throwaway 3ds game.
I am sure it will be revealed before E3, and since ORAS were announced completely randomly, maybe they could throw a quick Stars announcement in this Direct too. It's not too likely, but I prefer being hopeful.
