Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

Has Eurogamer ever screwed up a rumor started by them before?

The Zelda BOTW delay rumour is all I can remember. But, to be fair, they did say that originated from one source while other sources said otherwise, so they probably shouldn't have run that one.

Remember when at E3 2012, Nintendo decided to have a dedicated 3DS conference, making it seem like they'd just focus entirely on the Wii U at their main conference only for them to still have 3DS shit there anyway? lol
Oh my god that was infuriating. IIRC 3DS conference had barely any new info

Whatever happens during this Direct, I hope that we get a late May/early June release date for ARMS.

I'm also hoping that we get Splatoon 2 sooner rather than later. I'm going to use that as much excuse to get a Pro Controller again. I returned the one I bought initially as I barely used it. Seemed better to pick it up later with a potential price drop.

Also: Virtual Console would be nice, but I'm convinced that they're saving that for E3. I'm predicting an all-out launch for VC that re-brands the service and introduces some new accessories for Switch (Gamecube Controller, Wii-remote support).

Lmao that E3 conference they still shows Luigis Mansion 3D, New Super Mario Bros 2 and one other 3DS game even though they said the conference was only going to be Wii U games. It made it worse because they just showed NSMBU then they show NSMB2. Wayyy too much NSMB.

I want to see Pikmin 4 on Switch. But I know that my wish is unlikely to be satisfied. I just hope that we get one more game between now and E3 besides ARMS (if ARMS even happens before E3).

Nintendo : Covering new information on Nintendo Switch and 3DS. It will be mainly focused on ARMS and Splatoon 2.

People : it's 1 min Splatoon and Arms, some 2 min quick 3DS crap and 57 min of megatons

LOL yeah

We need to lower expectations to a Splatoon and Arms Direct, with maybe a few sprinkle of 3ds games we already know about. That's it. Anything else would be a plus and a surprise.

I'm realistic.

"Oh, andbythewaynewmetroidfromretro ok see you all at E3!"

Right? There will be no Megatons with e3 so close.

But then there's goofy people thinking we've been moving the goalposts for some silly reason.

Except people arent actually suggesting that. Most people are thinking 20 - 25 minutes of Splatoon 2 and ARMS, then 10 - 15 minutes on other stuff, which may or may not include announcements of things. If it's 35 minutes in length, 20 - 25 minutes would be "mostly ARMS and Splatoon 2".

Right? There will be no Megatons with e3 so close.

Yet ORAS were announced in a random video, before E3. No big showcase or anything. We can't really say that E3 is going to stop Nintendo unveiling stuff. We have no clue what they've got cooking. Hell they could announce Pokemon Stars today and STILL have Smash Bros, Pikmin, Mother 3, Donkey Kong and Bayonetta, plus 3rd party stuff like NBA 2k18, FIFA and Skyrim at E3. We just don't know.

I'm not saying they will, but saying that "E3 is close they won't announce anything" is jumping the gun a little. If the 35 - 40 minute thing is true, I simply cannot see them talking about ARMS and Splatoon 2 for 30 minutes. I'm thinking 10 mins tops for each would EASILY be enough to show new stuff. For example, in 10 minutes they could easily talk about Splatoon 2's single player campaign (3 - 4 mins), show off some new weapons and maps (2-3 mins) and discuss online features / progression etc (3 mins).

People are criticising others for getting too excited when they've said it's mainly focusing on Splatoon 2 and ARMS but, equally, "focusing mainly on" doesn't mean "we're not talking about anything else".

Came to ask the same - so thanks for doing it for me/us.

That sucks, as is often the case with these... :-(

Guess I'll watch it tomorrow morning then, while doing my best to avoid spoilers.

Edit: Or I might stay up...hmmm....don't know if that's smart though with a young child that's gets up before 7...but still...first Direct in Switch era...hmmm...

If it helps a fellow GAFfer (me :D) is staying up and watching live even though a babygirl probably gets up at 5:30am - 6am, but anyway that's the time which I usually get up, too for work :P

The reality of the Switch launch should prove who you should or shouldn't listen to. People were saying Mario, a game we saw two seconds of five months before the Switch launch, would be a day one game while Zelda, a game that people played a large amount of nine months ago, would be delayed. The notion that Nintendo would launch with both Zelda and Mario is equally ridiculous.

People know that when Nintendo specifies focus in a general Direct like this, it's never a focus. As I said, 10 minutes on each is likely, but still with other stuff.

Again, we have never had a general global Direct with nothing new announced.

No kidding. Only thing I wanted out of this Direct is release date for ARMs and rest is just bonus to me.

The Yoshi X Rabbids isn't just pulled from LKDs ass. Ubisoft put a video up showing Nintendo characters "rabbified". Also someone else said the Yoshi X Rabbids was something they heard including Gamexplain. Gamexplain never talks about rumors they themselves have heard, but they did with Yoshi X Rabbids.

I stand with my "old" predictions:

SWITCH:

- Splatoon 2 testfire 2 date (May); Story mode teased; new weapons and maps
- ARMS dated (June); new characters, modes detailed (single player "cinematic endings", online tournaments and leaderboards, and so on. Normal buttons detailed.
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe overview trailer
- Puyo Puyo Tetris demo available...NOW!
- Street Fighter II trailer, focused on color changing and Hadoken mode
- Pikmin sidescroller now also on Switch!
- Bomberman DLC detailed

3DS:
- Pikmin sidescroller dated
- Ever Oasis overview trailer and "release window" (something like "Q3")
- Allaince Alive localization confirmation
- Fire Emblem Echoes overview trailer
- Miitopia localization confirmation

It seems a lot of people have forgotten wiiu/3ds 2013/2014 era.

Which still had reveals during their Directs. What's your point?

I'm not saying there will be megatons, but they don't do general Directs if they don't have stuff to reveal, even if it's just "middleware"

Well the rumor about Rabbids crossover came from French source but I couldn't remember the youtuber's name or blog.

I'm expecting release dates for Arms and Splatoon 2, or at the very least a launch month for the latter. Maybe one last snippet of Mario Kart footage that doesn't really show anything new, but just to remind everyone that it's out in a few weeks.

I think they could sneak a new game announcement in there, but I wouldn't expect anything more than an eshop title. Even the Smash port would be a stretch for me, I think all unannounced Switch games/ports will be saved for E3.

Ah, right. We will find out something about Splatoon story mode. That's something I'm excited about.

Hopefully there's something similar for ARMS too.

Hmm. I can't remember.

My hopes:

Stardew Release Date
Yooka Laylee Release Date
New Mario + Luigi U port

Edit:

And Overcooked! release date like Jofamo below says

Stardew news would be nice! I've been dying to play that game but I'm waiting patiently for the Switch version. A 2D Mario port would be fantastic! I've honestly found myself dying to play a Mario game of some kind of Switch. It'd be nice to have that, or Mario Maker, or at least just Virtual Console. Don't make me wait until the holidays for Mario!

Dream world: Virtual console with DS games. Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver available to purchase on Switch VC now.

Let's do this.

Reality: 25 minutes of Splatoon 2 and ARMS. 10 minutes of obscure indies no one has ever heard of, random Neo Geo ports and more footage of Mario Kart 8 in case people can't work out how to use Youtube and look at the game for themselves.

Masuda's troll game is strong

Some people make it sound like it's a bad thing to learn more about ARMS and Splatoon 2. Both games look excellent, info is good. I'm excited. Anything else is icing on the cake.

I've seen several people in here speculate that we're getting Smash and Pokemon announcements.

You need to reduce the dosage of whatever delightful drugs you are taking

Arms, splatoon. The rest will be 3ds to keep the pretence up. Trust
I won't even dare to dream that big. We'll see Retro's game at E3, and if it's not Metroid Prime 4, I doubt anyone else is making it.

I was joking 😝

I think Nintendo can go with a combination of ARMS + Splatoon 2 + Switch features + Pikmin 3DS + Ever Oasis + FE Echoes + new 3DS game.

It's not a bad thing, it's just not much to get excited about. A simple trailer could give us more details about the games. Directs are exciting because they're usually a chance to see new games we don't know about.

If this direct just ends up being information about splatoon and arms (including later than expected release dates) and no new announcements that will be pretty disappointing. Guess we just have to wait until E3 then.

Oh its fine

I mean they go out of their way to manage expectations with their directs which, while appreciated, does kill my excitement that they will have something to surprise me lol

Its mostly a selfish want for them to NOT manage expectations so that I continue to dream up shit they might show lol

I cant wait to watch all the complaining when its Arms Splatoon and some other non-news.

"Nintendo REALLY need to annnounce some more games or switch is gonna tank after a few month just like wii U"

I can smell the hype-regret from here.

Does this rule out Stars' existence if they're openly trolling us about it?

It's the title of an article made in February about Masuda/Ohmori being at an event which runs from tomorrow. It's just either a coincidence or that site click baiting for Pokémon Stars and Masuda not realising/playing us
