Man denied $100,000 Jackpot because his friend pushed the button

What nonsense! Whoever put the money into the machine should be entitled to the winnings.

What's to stop folks from going into a casino, waiting for folks to put money into the machines, and hitting buttons?

What's to stop me from running around putting money in machines other people are playing and trying to claim their winnings?
 
Hard to judge who should really get the money since this sounds like a "He said, she said" scenario, but I am kind of favoring the woman's side of the story given all the details we have. It sounds like she won the money (With her claiming she paid for the machine and him saying otherwise) then offered him some of it and he flipped out and threatened her several times.

Their reactions don't seem to support her story. It's also suspect that she waited to make that claim.
I do wonder how much she offered. A Red Lobster gift card?

I had a relative whose wealthy dad left him $5,000 in his will (He was an only child, too.) just because the dad knew it would piss him off more than leaving him nothing.
 
Not sure who to believe.

When I heard the story on the radio, he was sitting in front of the machine and asked her to hit one spin for luck. Clearly playing with his money.

Casino don't care though so you going nuts and threatening the person who hit the button is not a good look.
 
It's super easy to track the money when you have a voucher system, so the casino could corroborate the woman's story if they wanted to.

They already made their call with the button press though.

Honestly I would be happy, but my mind would also go to how others are going to react. Asking to borrow money and all that. A blessing and a curse all at once.

The rule helps on those timing based parts of fruit/gambling machines but I would hope if someone just ran up to your machine you'd still get the money.

Actually, I think that the lower amount would make me more likely to keep it all. $100 million? I could part with 50.

I agree. I could still never have to work again on $50 million.

100k wouldn't buy me everything I'd ever need, but it'd be a better saftey net than 50k would be.

You're all cheating. No splitting I said. Let's say the other person feels like it's their money and are offended you're taking any amount for yourself (90/50/10% whatever).
 
I remember hitting the £250 jackpot on the club fruity. But I needed to press 'exchange' to get it. Before I could the prick at the side of me hit the 'collect' button for me and I only got £170 instead.

Yeah I try to keep friends around who I would split the winnings with in this situation/ would split it back.

But money is wild who knows how people really are.

Reading this thread made me only now realize how scummy some casinos are with their extremely thinly veiled excuses they use in order to not have to pay the winnings. As for this particular case, it's still a she-said-he-said situation but if it was me, my finnish humility wouldn't let me take the money even if I could.
 
So I can just go into a casino, sneak up on people and press the button on their slot machines after they put their money in, tell them it was "for luck", and if they win, I will get the earnings?
 
They might need to at least warn casino goers with a sign or a notice or something. "Only people who make wagers -- by pressing the button -- are entitled to prizes."

pretty sure it only "works" if they let you, i.e. you can't "steal" a wager
 
This made me wonder, how about if someone wins a bet in craps and they let a third person roll the dice for luck. Do they simply become the rightful winner of the earnings?

Or does this rule only applies for jackpot?
 
Modern slot machines don't have the results figured until the button is pressed. The random number generator is always running, so a button press a millisecond later would produce a different result.

In that case it makes sense for the button pusher to get the winnings since it was during their press that the winnings were earned.
 
Interesting. When I'm playing slots by my mom and she gets a bonus she lets me press the buttons for her. Wonder how that would work. Not like it'd matter much as I'd give her the money anyways.

For craps, all that matters is who put the chips down for what bet, whoever rolls the dice isn't a factor for payouts.
 
Many friendships have been destroyed for much less. The guy saying $100K is not even that much money, I ask how it is possible to become so out of touch with reality.
