Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

That works on the one in chapter II but you have to stay up for a minute in the chapter V one. The enemies just die.

I think you're supposed to pull enemies to you with the whip and then jump on them. I'm to understand that you get a jump count reset whenever you hop on something.

EDIT:

Oh no wait, you're already doing that.

Then I don't know :v

EDIT EDIT:

That said, still having a hard time keeping whip lady and wolverine in the air: they really don't wanna stay there and just flip out the moment witch time runs out (feels like they launch funny during the thing too whereas other enemies will follow me upwards during witch time).

I've kinda just given up and decided to play them dry and just do the dodge offset thing and hit them with a bunch of weaves lol

Parry gets me the most witch time, but I'm not sure this item actually works normally on Infinite Climax.

Jackfuste released a fix for letterboxing in resolutions other than 16:9. I don't think it fixes the picture in picture in the film cutscenes though.
Seems to work well for me. It's the closest to fullscreen yet with 3440x1440.
I find the centered HUD a bit intrusive though.
Perhaps that's not a problem with a triple 16:9 setup, but hopefully Platinum's patch will have a proper 21:9 HUD that pushes it out to the edges of the screen.

for hang time alfheims, pulling in enemies with kulshedra and jumping off them isnt working then try adding in Shuraba(sword)'s charged jumping P attack to stall in the air. crow within is almost essential too.

This port is, sadly, completely unplayable for me. Until I figure out why I'm getting the frame drops I can't do anything. Going under 20 at times despite the RX 480 and low cpu usage.

The original question was whether the Chapter V air time alfheim is possible without the whip.

The reason for the question is that you don't have the whip by that point in the game and if it's not possible without the whip then it is the first (and, by my count, only) alfheim that's not doable at the time you arrive at it on a first time playthrough.

There are others, like the limited punchs-kicks one that comes before you get the sword, that are very difficult unless you know very well what you're doing (or have an accessory that does damage, like the parry bracelets... although that also requires knowing what you're doing), but I think you can't do a minute in the air without the whip.

Someone posted a fix in here for AMD stuff or whatever... does that not work?

That said, more game stuff:

I am now coming the realization that parrying is actually easier than dodging lol

When you parry, you put the enemy into a stun state that guarantees them to eat some hits... I don't run into that situation where I dodge incorrectly and then attack into someone's hitbox like a twat.

I already knew this from a while back (and it's a holdover for Nier Automata), but you can pretty much mash parry and you're more or less going to get it practically 100% of the time.

(it's not like 3S or whatever where you have a few frames after the forward input where you can't do the shit again... and it's definitely not like DMC where the only way a normal human being can land a royal guard is by doing it during a jump lol)

You may not get the perfect parry that has the super extended witch time, but that small window where the enemy reels back is more than enough to do things and not have you run into shit.

(if I actually didn't play on autopilot, I'm pretty sure that
Jeanne
would not be able to touch me and it gives me the opening I need to do stuff)

I can also parry while charging the sword, which is great.

Can you... parry offset? I should try :v

That said, I've been sandbagging areas that I want to play mainly because... it will likely be followed by areas that I don't want to play.

When is training mode mod?

Yes, you can complete all the alfheims the first time you get to them. That's what I've been doing on my first PC run and I'm up to the Epilogue now. Alfheims are actually kind of the tutorials of the game. The only way to clear some of them is by truly understanding the combat system.

More importantly; can we get to modding in the greatest feature of Bayonetta 2 yet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au9s4KRaIDc

Damn, I was hoping on monday to bite the bullet and buy on bundlestars Bayonetta since they were giving that nice discount, but it has already sold out. :(

I have an i7. The AMD-related fix did not work.

Parrying is easier than dodging a lot of the time. Ironically, however, I find it relatively difficult on normal because I'm expecting enemies to attack a lot faster than they actually do.

After a lot of NSIC I've found the game to be easier with the auto-taunt artifact than without it.

How did you do the Chapter 5 Alfheim where you have to stay up for a minute without the whip? I didn't try for particularly long but it seemed pretty hopeless when I did. I think the most I got was 20 seconds.

Fake edit: LOL I'M STUPID YOU GET THE WHIP IN CHAPTER 3 AND I MISSED THE LP.

Kulshedra is Chapter 3, so you can use it for the Chapter 5 Alfheim. It would be incredibly hard to do it with neither the whip nor bird form, though.

Maybe it's just cause I suck at the air ones without using the cheesy whip.

Also, your tip post on the last page was great!

I seem to remember that
Temperentia
boss fight is the best place to farm Halos right?

That's where I've always done it. I use Gaze of Despair, BoT, equip Lightning Durga on both sets of hands, and do Punch Punch *weapon swap* over and over.

PC version not getting its own OT?
Isn't this basically the OT anyway? :P

Amusing anecdote: Atelier Sophie PC had all the talk in the release thread as well. Then a mod closed it (so that a proper OT would get made). But no one did and instead all the talk died down completely, and so the release thread was opened again and talk continued :)

Put this song and Bayonetta 2 skin and I don't need Bayonetta 2 on steam.

Not true, but it would soft the lack of Bayo 2 on steam

this game keeps getting minimized when I launched it the first time. never reached the menu. then I disable DSR in NVidia control panel and it worked.

but once in awhile the game gets minimized randomly. anyone got this problem?

I change it to borderless, hopefully it'll mitigate the problem

using i7 3770k with 1070
and 4K TV

I just realized that you can also play as Jeanne at some point, and I really like her design, much more than Bayonetta - but going for an all platinum playthrough really doesn't sound appealing, especially with that terrible flying section. Is there any other way? I read somewhere you can buy her for a million halos?

Jeanne is my favorite character too. If you don't want to do a Platinum run, she can be unlocked for a million halos at one of the payphones

Just be aware that to activate Witch Time with here your timing must be way more strict that with Bayo (reward is 1.5x Halo boost tho, IIRC).

Cool, thanks!

Some weird bugs in this.
Having really bad framerate issues and someone on Steam's forums suggested going offline, which increased the framerate by a noticeable amount!

I've only made some basic attempts, but it should be possible to mod the Bayonetta 2 soundtrack into the game, yeah.

Finally got around to playing last night. What an incredible port!

Was the Wii U version censored? I don't remember the partial nudity and such heavy swearing on that one.

I liked the music in Bayo 1 better. Pretty much the the biggest issue I have with the game. It's a step back.

IMO Moon River ∞ > Fly Me To The Moon ∞ but I'd have to concede the rest. Nothing comes close to Red & Black in Bayo 2, but at least they had the foresight to include most of the original soundtrack.

When the the times comes and I get around to buying the game, I might just as well use DSR for 4K. I think it might be a criminal act to just do 1080p 60 FPS on a GTX 1080.

If pressed, I'd probably say 1 had the better overall soundtrack as well, but it's difficult to draw a clear distinction - along with Moon River; the various Lumen Sage themes and Beyond Time stack up favourably compared to the Cardinal Virtue boss themes; and both the ground and air tracks for past Vigrid are easily among the best stage music in either game.

Moon River >= Fly Me to the Moon
Mysterious Destiny >>>>> Tomorrow is Mine
Short haircut >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> beehive

Holy shit I'm bad at this game now. I could pure platinum everything back in the day, and now I don't think I've gotten a single platinum award during my first normal playthrough, I even died a couple of times, especially in later chapters. Game is still amazing though, I'll jump right back into hard.

Give us Bayonetta 2 on steam!!!!

Playing it on a old amd a7 and 960, plays pretty well at 2k in fights. Some weird stuttering when loading areas or coming into a new one.

I hope someone makes a auto quick time patch

Yes I... googled it last night and realized that you get the whip in chapter 3 and I somehow missed the LP.

I've played this game to death - probably my highest singleplayer non-RPG hours - but I've only actually started from scratch twice - once when it came out the first time and once when it came out on the Wii U - so I'm pretty hazy on when stuff gets unlocked.

I think it's impossible without the whip. You do too much damage with your feet and the AI is too smart to just clump up around you.

I mean you could just do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7BVoIGXA14

:P

...I've never seen that before. I might actually try this.

Incidentally, I think this is the chapter II one since he's only up thirty seconds and the hard mode version of V has a bunch of regular enemies.

I must be really used to the WiiU port, because I'm not liking the X1 controller for this game (despite loving the controller otherwise). I should figure out how to connect the Pro controller.

I need a way to swab A/B and X/Y ingame. You can't change button config for an XInput controller in Bayo1, can you?

I play on the WiiU Pro Controller and the buttons are set accordingly. No matter during regular gameplay, but with those instadeath QTE it's annoying.
Get the mayflash adapter. It even allows for you to remap the controller buttons to Xbox style or use it on a Sony system (at least ps3).
