Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

CTr would really be nice...also would like to see someone take on GTA and make a serious open world city game. But seems like most of the big studios are taken care of. I think Sony's only chink in the WWS genre is not have 1-2 more evergreen games they can consistently use throughout each generation. Uncharted's story will eventually end. Same as TLOU, same as Horizon and days Gone, etc...Besides GT Sony doesn't have something so gameplay focused they can keep using the brand every gen for new gameplay ideas.

I also think not making a mini PS4 tablet for the handheld market is a mistake, but my perspective is consumer based solely.

It's the only direction that makes sense now for Bloodborne.

lol....what is even happening in this gif...lol...

I figured it out. It's some ridiculous French short form animated film that was made to promote some musician's single. After some super weird gross shit, this character sees a giant Lovecraftian creature and her eyes explode.

Not sure how that has any relationship to Bloodborne except the Lovecraft part, though...

We definitely need a kart game.

Yeah, I'd love a new one on Playstation. One of my favourite woefully underserved genres, and you'd think the consistent success of Mario Kart would encourage publishers to dip their toes into the genre.

From Sony, I'd gladly take a new Speed Freaks (Speed Punks in NA, as I recall), Modnation Racers if they improved the art style and handling, or, fuck, what they should do is lift the handling model directly from Crash Team Racing and make Daxter & Clank Karting. Keep Jak & Ratchet out of it, but use loads of the side-characters from both series, and they'll probably have enough content for 2-3 games. Down the line you could even introduce characters from Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, Puppeteer, Tearaway, etc.

Okay. Could you link the full video, or explain the context?

EDIT -

Fair enough.

Probably another adventure type game.

Yeah, I think Toyama has said exactly that. Given how good Gravity Rush was I'm excited for whatever he's working on next. EDIT - as DriftingSpirit quoted.

Bloodborne 2 should be saved for PS5 launch

Nah, it should come during the height of the PS4 (i.e. next year!). Then save their next Sony game for the PS5.

Or another Motorstorm with PS4 Pro amazaball settings.

I'd love a new Motorstorm (in the style of Pacific Rift), but it's not going to happen. That series bombed aside from the first instalment.

Big connection right there especially if it's the focal point in BB2. But now I think about it over-exposing the Cosmos will take away from their mystique. I would love more sci-fi aesthetic but not Lovecraftian, maybe go giger-esque with bio mechanoids and set in a post apocalyptic space/future. If nothing else then to complete the PS trilogy with its own unique theme like Demon's Souls and Bloodborne.

I hope there isn't a Bloodborne 2. In that it's the same universe/style.

Give me something new and fresh like Bloodborne though. It can be called Bloodborne 2, but just different in setting/lore please.

The Dark Souls sequels biggest weakness were how hampered down they were to an existing universe. I want something wild and crazy like Bloodborne and it's cosmic horror lore.

actually, it's alot more easier to use the original bloodborne lore to spin a new sequel that's fresh. BB1 already hinted that there were other ancient cities/civilizations (Loran) that basically repeated the same mistakes as Yharnam.

We can have a bloodborne sequel that is NOT based in or around Yharnam and all the existing Great Ones and it will still work. I mean...BB1 only shows Mergo, Kos (or Kosm), Ebrietas, Amygdala and Moon Presence while Odeon was only name dropped. We can easily have a Bloodborne 2 based only on the same concept of Cosmic Horror but in a totally new location, timeline and a set of new Great Ones. The story of BB1 is never about the end of the world, rather just that whoever that played with the 'old blood' with greed got what they deserved.

Unlike the Dark Souls trilogy, the story of those games are really tied down by the backend lore of Gwen, Dragons, the Dark Souls, Lord Souls, rekindle the flame, etc....that it is essentially trapped within the rules it created itself.

TL;DR...A new BB2 is very possible without falling into the same trap as Dark Souls' sequel.

Are we expecting God of War to close the show this year? They opened the show last year. Can't think of anything bigger for Sony at the moment to close, unless TLOU2 shows up.

If they close with anything already announced I think it'll be TLOU2. I think they're going to open with two unannounced games (Sucker Punch and From Software), then everything already announced except a 3rd party game (something like Warner Bros Batman game) and a couple indies, and end with either another unannounced game or TLOU2.

I don't think God of War is closing, it will be one of the first 3 demos in my mind. The last half will like be Call of Duty, Destiny, etc. I'd like to imagine a new ip is likely going to close it out.

I honestly do not expect TLOU2 at E3. TLOU2 is most likely opening PSX though, Naughty Dog has opened every single PSX so far and I'm sure the trend will continue.

I think both TLOU2 and Death Stranding will be in their E3 press conference. They're too big not to be there. I think PSX will be the gameplay reveal for TLOU2.

I think we're going to get a way less serious trailer for Days Gone to help it stand out from TLOU2. I'm not saying going full Dead Rising, but something like luring a ton of zombies into a giant pit and killing them all with a flamethrower.

I 100% expect God of War to be the closer. They have a history of closing E3 with a new demo and God of War is easily their biggest game on the horizon aside from maybe TLOU2 which may not even be there.

Sony also usually has their big reveals toward the beginning of the show and maybe only one or two for near the end.

When's the last time Sony ended a show with a demo of something they demo'd the year before? That's my reason for God of War not ending their press conference this year. They ended their press conference twice with Uncharted 4 but the first year was only a teaser.

I mean, nothing about this really looked any different than the crazy enemies in BB, so I'm not sure what the original guy who posted it was saying when he was arguing for BB and more...thing that's very similar? Just couldn't follow the logic.

The scene was also like 20 seconds long. Everything else took place in an indoor pool.

I think this argument is flawed for the ending tho.

For the start, sure, looking at their past two press conferences they started with gameplay reveal of beloved IP, followed by reveal of new IP. There is a pattern here

But their ending doesnt have a pattern, so there is no way to predict that based on past shows.

I think they will close with Death Stranding.

I doubt that would happen. Death Stranding is still very early in production, and I don't think they will be bringing a lengthy gameplay reveal to the show. It SHOULD have ended the show last year though, because the Spiderman and Days Gone footage were a bit underwhelming in comparison.

I hope that after the success of the Nsane trilogy they realize the potential of a Ctr remaster. Sony doesn't have a kart game right now, the interest for Crash is high, Ctr is the goat ( ;P ) and I think I've read they even have the rights for the original game.
Agree.

Especially given the dramatic situation of arcade racing games on PS4.

E3 2014 began with Destiny. Not sure if they're going to go with what they did the previous two E3s or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if Destiny 2 or Battlefront II opened either. Or RDR2.

The fact that we're going to be getting a lot of raw gameplay this month makes me think that it's unlikely that they'll start off with D2. It's certainly be somewhere in the show, but I wouldn't expect it to be what kicks it off. The opening will be reserved for something that'll pop because it's new.

Actually Novo means new in portuguese. In Spanish would be Nuevo. Also, Nouveau in french, Nuovo in italian and Nou in catalan. All come from the Latin Novus. I'm sure there are more but that's all I know :P

Ah crap, the one time I don't bother double checking whether I'm right. My bad. Thanks for the info dump though, I knew of the Latin origins but thought Nova was the Latin word for new, not Novus. Turns out it's just the feminine form of Novus. The more you know.

Yeah, seeing as the format has changed pretty dramatically over the years, you can't just look at all of them and say "they don't do that", especially not when the last two years have been quite different from the rest.

Besides, while we may have only gotten an Uncharted 4 teaser at E3 2014, we did get a gameplay demo at PSX 2014, so why would that be okay but ending on another God of War demo this year be bad?

Toro is so prevalent in PlayStation JP's social media, yet he's been denied his own game for years now. Yeah, he's starring in a mobile game due out at some point, but... that's mobile. Who cares.

Shit hurts yo. Most underappreciated mascot ever.

Maybe he can be a guest star in Knack 2, your most anticipated game 2017.

Spiderman... underwhelming...? People... XD

It was fine, I thought. Wasn't anything wrong with it. Nothing to write home about though. Not a lot of good Spiderman games out there, so I wasn't really losing my shit when it was shown. They should have shown that before DS, imo.

I didn't even know this was out yet, never mind sold well! What are the numbers we have?
I didn't think it would sell

That NC team was the main one for the new Ratchet

hope its something about that

yeah, even when you analyze the 2015 and 2016 conferences, the only thing you can relate them is the beggining.

Looking at all their conferences (E3, PSX, PGW, TGS) in the past two years, they had all kinds of endings,

Battlefront will be a large focus of EA Play, Sony won't open with it after 15 minutes of footage a day or two prior.

Sony's openers the past couple of years have been megatons, The Last Gaurdian in 2015 and God of War in 2016. They're not opening with Battlefront 2.
