Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

Does anyone know the name of the music playing on that icy Android-prostitute planet, the one where Yondu got rejected by his former allies (Stallone and the others)?

That track really stood out, given the rest of the music in the film.
 
For a summer blockbuster action film, the pacing and structure feels more like tv?

Most of the movie was like back to back scenes of people standing around doing 'character development' haha. It's basically me playing persona.

Its basically a huge budget family sitcom.

It generally was fine but some of it felt forced like... time for me to explain my back story i guess?

Had a good time though. Man by 2020 will every Hollywood legend have a role in mcu?
 
That whole bit with Nebula revealing what Thanos did to her every time she lost to Gamora was so fucking disturbing.

Him removing organs and body parts every single time was beyond fucked up.
 
Loved the movie.

Yondu.

Wow. The feels.

Most emotional experience for me in any Marvel film yet.

Wished KITT Turbo Boosted instead of PAC MAN chomping, but they foreshadowed PAC so it didn't jar me as much as others. But it did fit in with the game playing aesthetics subtly established during the film.
 
I thought the early consensus was that it wasn't as good as the first movie, but I ended up enjoying it more as did I think a lot of other people.
 
Just got out of the film.

So, so gooood.

Great camaraderie, fun set pieces, character development, huge climax, the quips. Aaaallll the quips.

Yondu though. Bruh!

Also, really poignant ending. Got misty-eyed there.

Better than the first. Didn't think I'd come out of it that impressed either. I need more Guardians films yesterday.
 
Solid movie, but some of the exposition was hilariously forced.

Also wtf is up with the cgi/green screens. Some of it looked horrendous.

Civil War has better highs, but after Winter Soldier it's just not the sequel it should have been. They tried going half and half, great story and awesome stuff. Doesn't mesh for me. I'd have preferred a more focused plot or just non stop fun.

Plus I care about GOTG characters. Asking me to care about Tony and Steve's friendship doesn't work because there's never been that friendship on screen.

He mentioned after Peter shot him (just before turning into Hasselhoff) that he chose that form to appeal to Peter, so yeah.

Really? I've seen a couple of people say that, but they totally come off as friends to me..down to the arguments. Who doesn't butt heads with their homies now and then? 😁
 
I dunno, it slots in at that Dr. Strange/Ant-Man tier between 'the best' and 'they're fine, totally watchable' for me. The difference between Guardians 2 and those two movies is that the highs are a lot higher and the lows a lot lower. Benedict Cumberbatch not being able to deliver humor with his American accent and Paul Rudd struggling a bit in the dramatic spots didn't really drag those movies down a lot. Here, the Yondu scene might be the best emotional... climax? Delivery? Capitalization? in the entire MCU, but man, some of the attempts at humor here thunked as hard as anything I've seen in these movies.

If the crew stuff wasn't embarrassingly rough, it'd probably bump it up a notch.

This consensus had me and my friends tempering our expectations, but we both enjoyed it more than the first film
 
I think this surpasses the first based on the last act alone. And being the first marvel movie in a while with a fantastic villain. I think this might be my second favorite Marvel film once it settles in a big (Don't see Winter Soldier being topped for me).

Did slog a big in the middle, but I still thought it was good. Loved the "family" theme of the film too.

Drax's laughing got grating sometimes.

Rooker was the star of this film. That funeral scene....




Mod should put up a poll on which was the better soundtrack. Vol. 1 or Vol. 2

Oh the GOTG characters are jerks to each other too, but even before Rocket breaks down st the end it's clear they're friends. Hell, Yondu and Peter were acting like father and son all throughout both films long before the explicit reveal. And they never stopped arguing.

Tony and Steve just seems like that was their goal, but they never took a shot at scoring before they lost the game.

I do appreciate that despite Gunn's struggle spreading of the action amongst the characters, that he succeeded in giving all of them a touching scene which is pretty crazy. Gunn's brother gave me more feels than most of the other MCU films in their entirety.

I get your point, but if I was Ego I'd take out the heavy hitters first too.

There was a really lot of exposition, but we're getting into comic territory where some of this shit has to be explained.

They're probably going to have to hand out pamphlets at Captain Marvel.
 
My theatre had several people legit sobbing during the Yondu scene. That was some powerful shit.

And dude it's been mentioned but Kurt Russel is such a good actor. He was so great as Ego.
 
Just came back from our showing... Gotta say, that was pretty goddamn fucking good. Think I liked it better than the first, actually. But gotta rewatch that first to be sure. Excited to see where they go from here till Infinity War

TBH I don't remember if Ego wrapped up Drax and Gamora/Nebula first before fighting those 3.

I thought they get separated as Quil and co battle Ego which is ok, I guess it comes down to the usual allergy Hollywood has to letting the villian take on multiple heroes at once (though here it would make sense given how powerful Ego is) and I guess it's better than them taking on another faceless army...again. Gunn probably just wanted to focus on Peter and Ego too I guess.

I'm just salty Drax got about two whole action moments in the whole movie, he's sidelined outside of poop/boner jokes after a whole 20 minutes, though I am happy that Gunn seems to have upped his and Gamora's power/durability substantially this time around.

But the only time we've ever seen them interact before they get to blows in CW is the Avengers movies, in which the first one they have a hate/respect thing and then in AOU they seem ok, but that movie is so packed that they seem hardly like friends, (to steal from Ragnarok) more like coworkers.
 
It was a very good movie full of laughs and cool fight scenes but it lacked a moving plot, good villain and ultimately like Avengers 2 felt a bit like filler towards Infinity War next year.

As people said it felt more like a TV episode than a full on sequel which made the title change to Vol. 2 rather fitting.

Yondus death was also well done and felt earned rather than "because we could only use him for one film" like Quicksilver's death scene was.

Oh and the Sovereign felt like they hung around in the plot too long, my guess is they will probably show up in future MCU movies.
 
Loved it, though it seemed to drag at times.

I just want to say that I had no idea Stallone was gonna be there, and I thought he really brought it in his first scene. I felt that pain and disappointment.
