Team Gohan

Vegeta always did seem disappointed Gohan wasn't constantly stronger than him, which is an odd thing to type out but there it is.

I do wonder what Beerus and Whis will say when they find out...

Deep down, I think Vegeta has always had a low key respect for Gohan's ability, especially after Cell. So him being disappointed by Gohan's slacking just seemed to make sense, to me.

People need to just except the power level shit is all screwy now and just enjoy the show. I mean DBZ had the same type of shit. Characters reach what seem to be incredible new heights but then others catch up fairly easily. Or are we forgetting Trunks and Goten reached Super Sayian at like 5 years old? I dont honestly think ultimate form (or 17 for that matter) are equal to SSB. With Gohan I feel like Goku was just honoring Gohans wish and giving it.his all. Not that he needed to though.

It was already stated in the Buu saga that mystic form was probably limitless and achieved the highest power of all forms anywhere. That Gohan is a scrub and doesn't train much just means it's wasted on him.

Too bad he'll lose to Kale when he gets caught off-guard.

I believe Kale will be a Hulk situation where she goes berserk and multiple people from multiple universes (possibly including her own) will team up to stop her.

Regarding 1v1 fights, I think we'll get Gohan vs. Colifla and Gohan vs. Toppo.

He wants saiyans to be great. Gohan was the first saiyan child in a couple decades so seeing the kids do well means the saiyans are doing well.

Yup, this has always been the case. Korins tower, training with Kami and King Kai, gravity training, super saiyan, etc. After one arc they become the base level of power for the relevant cast and the storngest character gets a new form or skill to give them the edge til everyone catches up again. Repeat.

U2, U3, and U4 haven't really shown us anything. Not sure what to expect from them at all.

I'm thinking U6 will get short changed in the tournament, with the exception of the new Saiyans. I hope we get a U6 Namekian at the tournament too.

U9 feels done after the exhibition matches. Is anyone expecting much from them?

U10 looks like they'll be blown away without much effort.

U11 is being built up as a major force. They're the big threat to Goku and co.

Those are my thoughts right now.

I think Tien was okay this episode. It's clear he's not matching Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan. We don't know how he would have done against Piccolo. He was also taking Gohan's hits and still getting up.

I don't stress the power levels so much, and generally think people overthink them way too much. Power only matters in cases where they mean to show that someone is clearly at a whole other level from another character.

Beyond in cases where we know for a fact a specific character is simply not in the league of another, try not to even think about it so much. Characters are as strong as the story needs for them to be. Clearly they want Android 17's strength to be a bit of a mystery, but they told us more than enough to indicate that he is a serious weapon for Universe 7.

Vegeta is a known quantity. They also clearly setup this episode to indicate to us that there is a major future power up for Gohan coming, whether it comes in the upcoming tournament or not. They are setting him up to surpass Goku, or for the two of them to achieve a new kind of power together, leaving others behind.

RIP 56k USERS

This shot really got me. It lets you know that even though Gohan has his power back, he still needs work using it, and Goku training him is the best training.

qJxJts1.png

This shot just really elevates the idea that Gohan is off the chain, and the close up face shot is just really on model here.

eW6RyBU.png

Oh god Toei this is probably the best Gohan closeup I've ever seen

"Not yet!" Gohan gets ready for his dad to charge at him from tossing him away.

Gohan really going all out here.

Okay THIS might be the best closeup.

Eye See You

This is one of the best pull away shots in the episode. At this point you know things are going full hype because Goku just pulled out Super Saiyan Blue.

Ss1zPZl.png

Aw shit dad just pulled out SSBKK. Yeahhhh.

5xOEyP7.png

OK, OK, THIS might be the best closeup in the episode.

i0tCUlv.png

Goku is not without some amazing shots as well, this one highlights his strength and power.

J9hP4bK.png

Possibly the absolute BEST pull away shot in the episode. It's evocative of Gohan wanting to reach Goku's heights. Literally.

vF1hvIH.png

This gives you a false sense of, or foreshadowing, that Gohan CAN surpass his dad if he tries hard enough.

Then at the end, we can be happy that Gohan has finally returned and there's more on the way.

Gohan is back!!!! Yes!!!!

Glad someone else saw and thought that. He was not feeling the fighters that were picked at all. As bad of a pick he made with Zamasu they need someone like that.

I don't think they are allowed to pick Zamasu because he's a kai race.

Watched it with my friends lol, we all enjoyed it. Surprised to see some of them asking questions regarding what's going on, some of them were asking if Goku is stronger than Beerus already.

Ok, now that episode was amazing. Best since the Prime Goku Black arc.

The Vegeta nod was an incredible touch.

And it maintained a level of sensibility with Gohan losing in the end.

So the character you'd actually expect to get a BS boost in power ended up getting the mildest one. Gohan looked only a bit better than SSJ2 Goku there. They didn't even bother to show SSJ3 (perhaps due to budget) but the fight against SSB was too short to conclude anything.

From one perspective, Krillin is stronger than Gohan. He got more screen-time against SSB and needed much less against SSJ.

What's odd is that this fight had more hype to it but the fighter being displayed was portrayed to be much weaker than the ones in the more casual episodes (17). Also, base Gohan fighting evenly against base Goku in this episode, SSJ Gohan vs SSJ Goku in 75, but then somehow the SSJ2 multiplier holds up to Ultimate.

After looking at folks reaction to this episode, Toriyama's goal is now clear. Gohan must lose the tournament like a punk. The tears from that event combined with replacing Buu will grant him eternal life.

Tien telling Goku lets go easy on them or whatever was lol worthy. Sure Goku with his SSB is presumably way above Gohan and Piccolo but Tien would gets his ass beat by either of them even if it was still lame ass book worm Gohan.

holy shit
i can't even joke about gohan anymore

I'm hoping Goku learning moves from Roshi is a thing that happens, too. I'm 99% sure that's just anime fluff but it better not be.

Also, I've got to mock Tien now.

You're a strange one. Gohan's power isn't BS, he's been training forever. Gohan could hold his own vs. SS2 Goku because even though Goku was getting hits on Gohan, it wasn't doing much. When SSB came out, Gohan STILL held his own and got hits on Goku, which was more than Krillin ever got. Then Goku had to pull out SSBKK to even finish off Gohan because their match would've gone on for too long. This way, Gohan gets to see the heights he needs to reach and feel it too!

Naw, you got me wrong. It's not BS, that's what's odd here. Goku, Frieza, Trunks, 17 all got god ki handouts like candy. That Gohan of all people didn't get it is pretty interesting. He really wasn't shown to be at SSB-level IMO, going by how other characters have traded blows against much stronger characters in past Super episodes.

I'm in the camp that Goku didn't need to go blue + KK, and could have beaten Gohan in just blue. We went blue + KK because Gohan asked for his full power plus he wanted Gohan to see how much further he has to go.

I don't think Trunks or 17 have god ki, but they were shown that they can contend at that level. That's similar to how Gohan was treated this episode. Even if you don't believe he is at SSB level yet, he should be soon enough given that they are foreshadowing a new form for him.

Yeah, I think 17, Vegeta, and Goku (without KK) are still a good bit stronger than Gohan, until he unlocks dat steamy mystic in the tournament at least.

Because Toei needed to correct RoF. RoF Gohan was trash.

My problem with saiyan transformations is that... they're literally all the same safe for cosmetic features.

They punch a bit harder, yay.

That's why Gohan's mystic form was a godsend. But apparently he's getting a new form. This isn't needed. Hoping it's just steamy mystic form. A more complete version i guess.

I am hoping whatever 17 is holding back isn't raw power, but a new ability or feat. If it's just him powering up to get as strong as the plot needs it, i give up. Because when you think about it, golden Frieza is exactly that. So if even 17 ends being a saiyan ersatz I'm gonna cry.
