Dragon Ball Super |OT6| Put your back into it.

Art and animation pales in comparison to DragonballZ. While I enjoy Super, theres no getting around that for me.

At the same production values, HD will look worse than SD, that's just a fact of life. Super tries very hard, it has a lot of action scenes. DBZ takes a lof of shortcuts so it can show very small bursts of great animation.

I mean, take a look at most fight scenes in DBZ, stop for a minute and really take a look at how goofy some scenes look.

I'd say the poaching/park ranging joke is great. I mean the power creep, especially after what we saw in the android/cell arc... LOL

I just love that they went through with the park ranging thing and even dedicated two episodes around 17's proud profession.

I think the poachers joke is stupid, 17 never suggested he was getting stronger fighting poachers, no one hinted that in the episode or interviews with Toriyama over the years, he's been out of the picture for a long time, in that time anything is possible.

I hope Toei makes this the Goku and Vegeta show again the way some people are treating this arc and other characters becoming relevant again. I hope they make GT canon.

Umm keep hopin'

Poacher joke is entirely fair game because how stupidly zero excuse was offered. "Anything is possible" indeed, including fighting poachers which at least is the only context given for 17.

Watched the episode, so fucking good

Gohan being as strong as SSB is pretty ridiculous. It seems like he wants to surpass his current ultimate form so we might see something from him at the tournament. Him being the leader is pretty surprising though...
He's fine with letting Frieza on the team?
.

... Which says nothing. Tien has been training all this time and he's looking like the worst Z-Fighter in history.

I mean, Gohan whacked Tien in the head with mountain crushing force and he still got up. He might be the most powerful human being alive, but he seems to have forgotten that you can't win fights by standing still and getting hit.

Why doesn't Bulma just knock out Krillin, Tien, and Roshi and turn them into androids against their will? She has Gero's research.

Bulma's too helpful lately, I think it's accidentally giving people the impression that she actually gives a shit.

I was thinking earlier maybe its time to point out Super is better than GT will ever be,though GT is kind of a childhood classic and did his own thing, traveling across planets, the beautiful music, the machine planet,Giru,Babi, and the dark dragons. im starting to have fond memories of Super too. Including the Gods shenanigans its overall a more balanced show that builds on the past.

Though both are far below Z wich will make further comparisons trickier imo.

The reason 17 being so powerful bugs me is that 18 is not. We have never had a legit female fighter and though the universe will bend it's logic to the absolute limit to facilitate 17 being up there it won't do the same for 18... or Videl for that matter. The Saiyan ritual left a mark on her that raised her limit far beyond a normal human. There, now she can compete with the rest of the crew.

In fairness, Gohan is way faster than Tien is.

It would actually be really fucking cool if they did that with Videl.

18 had limiters put on her to stop her from getting as strong as 17, and because Gero thought it'd make her easier to control. I mean, maybe Bulma or the Dragon can fix that so she can reach greater heights, but right now it makes sense why she doesn't have that potential.

Videl should totally come back though. Even if all she does is win a World Martial Arts Tournament in two episodes.

And Master Roshi's like Sonic the Hedgehog.

Did no one ever tell you Roshi is based off Sonic? It's one of those wacky gaming secrets, like how the bushes are the same shape as the clouds in Super Mario.

dont remind us of Poor Videl, beaten at the tournament so bad they got the fighting spirit out of her, then she marries,18 married too maybe it only affects women.

He's also not an android created to kill a super-powered alien and have unlimited energy.

17 was literally labeled the ultimate fighter though, wasn't he? Back in the Android saga? he's going to have higher potential than Tien

If Super at all actually commented on this stuff there might be something to defend, but they didn't. Super just completely doesn't care to explain this stuff, they just pull out "secret training" whenever they need. Roshi doing the same definitely hurt its application on 17.

You know, I always thought Sonic seemed familiar but I never really could put my finger on it.

So in the spirit of this thread moving too fast, I gotta ask any others in here find the fight comical with the high pitched/higher pitched A DEH DEH DEH DEH DEH DEHs?

Like here I'm supposed to be excited to see Gohan's effort pay off in a battle against pop pop. But I wasn't as into it because of imagining the same lady being told 'no no, that was goku doing noises, try again but remember to do Gohan'

17 wasn't explained as "secret training". 17 bluntly said he never stopped trying to get stronger. Which is basically the excuse for every fighter in the series.

Super's opening arc is about Goku doing universe shattering punches. I'm done with caring about power levels in DB. As long as it isn't just the Saiyan show, I'm good.

The battle cries is the one point where I think Nozawa is weak. Gohan's, Goku's and even sometimes Goten's have no individuality once they start yelling during battle.

It was pretty obvious in Dragonball Fusions, where most of the VA work is just battle cries, rather than actual attack names, and you can have a party full of different Nozawa voiced characters.

It kind of ruined the fight. This episode is best viewed in gif form.

How is that not secret training? 17 knowing that 17 was training doesn't change that - nobody else did. Nobody knew what 17 was up to, they could've just said 17 was doing literally anything else, 17's activity of the past 10 years was just introduced then and there and given no actual substance.

This is why I wish they'd speed it up on Toonami.

I actually love it. I've never heard a dub of a shonen where the main male character sounds better than the sub. Naruto sounds so much better in the sub, Luffy as well, Gon too. I grew up on the Funi dub so I have an appreciation for Goku's dub voice (and I feel the VA for Funi Goku captures Goku's spirit better than he used to), but I think Goku and Gohan's Japanese voices sound so much more authentic and natural to who they are and stuff like the "deh deh deh" fighting shouts are an example of that

I wonder how long it'll take for people to start spoiling late Super stuff in the Toonami OT, like the Gohan vs. Goku fight, or
Frieza returning
when it happens.

With us knowing that other universes exist with copies of the Z fighters, why is everyone so vehemently against GT being canon? Why can't that be another universe that gets mentioned, but not really explored?

dont remind us of Poor Videl, beaten at the tournament so bad they got the fighting spirit out of her, then she marries,18 married too maybe it only affects women.

We know 18 can still fight, though. Videl on the other hand...GT Videl was so much better.

The most important question Super hasn't answered yet? When does Goku put on the outfit he wore at the End of Z?

Considering what happened to the Revival F outfit, which was much closer to the classic one, I guess we'll only see it for the End of Z remake episodes, and maybe the arc immediately following that.

Other universes don't have copies of the Z fighters though. Other timelines might do, but GT wouldn't fit there anyway since it's supposed to be a Z sequel, so it needs to be the timeline visited by Future Trunks.

That's not how other universes work in dbs

We know for a fact that's not how the universes work. This idea about GT was thought of the idea of universes first came about and was funny but it just can't be anymore unless they go back on what was established.

People were pretty good about JoJo spoilers. People were openly excited about the Kars fight & made it clear that something hype was going on, but nobody explicitly said stuff like
vampire squirrels
or
the volcanic eruption launching Joseph & Kars into space
.

I'd expect the Toonami thread will be much the same way for DBS. Except we just got to RoF, so we're facing a few weeks of minimal hype, anyway.

The Gohan power failure in RoF will be the ultimate test.

It's not secret because 17 hasn't been on screen in years. It isn't like Master Roshi who we actually see reading dirty mags. Would you feel better if 17 said he was doing push-ups, sit-ups, and drinking juice?

Power levels between the 10 don't really matter since they will be fighting other people.

So whatever the plot calls for will happen.
Toppo may job Gohan but struggle against Krillin's Solar Flare or Buu's body or whatever.

So it doesn't really matter much.
