Scorpio, does it launch in time for Destiny 2? (and if not that will really suck)

Xbox- Nov 15 2001
360- Nov 22, 2005
X1- Nov 22, 2013

Call me crazy, but part of me thinks as though it could come in November...

Scorpio will be the Definitive Console version, so if it means waiting a bit for that....so be it.

It's going to be missing weapons, armor and likely at least one strike, making it next to impossible to be the definitive console version.

A September release would be cool, so that the console is out prior to (or at least close to) not only their own exclusives, but all the major multiplats this fall/holiday as well.

From the gamer's perspective, it would be great if it was out for all/most of those releases. If that lines up with their production pipeline, marketing, etc....I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

I feel like Scorpio is due around October / November but that seems like a huge misstep. If you're releasing when almost all the holiday games have already arrived you have little chance of capturing those who just bought said games on a competing platform.

Hopefully we'll be in for a surprise but November is where I'd put my money.

Im actually saying screw it, I will now firmly believe its launching before D2

Its launching with Shadow of War and Madden last week of August, incentive to get sales on the two big sport franchises, big fighting game and Forza launches in its familiar window

I'm not confident in saying "before D2", but at least in September makes a hell of a lot of sense.

Microsoft should be doing everything they can to get this console out late August / early September, in time for Destiny, COD, Battlefront 2 and FIFA.

I envisage a lot of Scorpio / FIFA bundles around September time similar to One S. They'd be stupid to miss out on that market.

FIFA from memory launches around September 25th, and EA and MS always have good marketing deals.

I wouldn't say that FIFA is something that's going to shift a lot of units of a premium console designed for enthusiasts, though.

If I were MS I'd be making my XB1S bundles with FIFA the cheap and cheerful option for that period.

MS should do a Scorpio FIFA and EA Access bundle.

Why are people assuming the game will get a scorpio update? Most devs don't even bother to put pro features, guess we will wait and see.

Well due to the way the Scorpio is, will it not improve the picture and frame rate anyway with supersampling etc?

I'm not sure they'd need to actually do a Scorpio update for it to run better.

Surely they have to release it before most of the major AAA games release. If not, the hardcore (the very gamer this console is aimed at) would have played most of those games, probably on another console or PC and therefore would have less incentive to pick up a scorpio during the launch window.

But if its not ready until November then what can you do, you only need to look at the launch of the X1 and even the PS4 to see consoles that released before they were ready.

Tough luck my friend.

Either you wait for scorpio so you won't feel bad about playing it in xb1 or just play on pc so you won't lose out on the feeling of discovery on the veru first month of the game.

I must admit, if Scorpio Destiny was "the only console that runs Destiny at 60 fps," I would definitely make the switch from PS4 to PC.

One thing I do wonder though is how the wait for Scorpio will affect sales for games on the Xbox overall?

Are people going to buy Forza, Middle Earth, Madden, COD etc on day one if they know that Scorpio is just around the corner? Personally I think I would hold off on buying games on day one once we get past August and that could hurt sales for the platform as a whole.

Its a tough predicament to be in but the XB1S and Switch have proven that you dont need to release in November or you're bound to fail. I say try and get it into the hands of the gamers as soon as its ready and I still think it will be early October, maybe late September if we are lucky!

There is no downside to them releasing earlier, you guys act like only Holiday sales are important, I'm pretty MS is okay with selling a Scorpio no matter what day of the year it is.

From a pure number perspective, the more they sell the better?

About my other point, not sure if it was conveyed properly, but Destiny 2 will be a big deal for me, so Id love for it to be the show piece of "next-next-gen-but-same-gen"

Even having my 4k tv right now, but playing games that are 900, 720 seems a bit wasteful ya know what I mean.

Im really looking forward to a significant showpiece piece of software.

In a perfect world Scorpio, Destiny and my TV would all show up on my door step the same day, but clearly reality isnt that timely. Oh well, just saying, I really really hope they somehow pull a super early launch outta their butts so I can have a whole conversion at once, new game, new console

Things like that give me hope

Manufacturing time is a downside. They can't magically knock off 2 months production and shipping time to make it hit any earlier. It will be November time where they will be doing a bit marketing push and where they are guaranteed to get a lot more sales in the US with the run out to Black Friday and Christmas.

It's such a 1st world problem, just play it on the Xbox One and then be wow'd by the visual upgrade when Scorpio hits or if you realllllyyyyyy can't wait buy a £1200 PC and it will look EVEN better than Scorpio on your TV in September.

You aren't going to shape a console upgrade research, product development and shipping time around a 3rd party title that even has exclusives with a competitor.

The problem is that a large chunk of market they'll be going after is PS4 owners without XB1's. If PS4 owners have already bought all their holiday games on the PS4 where's the incentive to get a brand new console and have to rebuy everything etc.

Scorpio is November I guess.

Anyway... Destiny 2 will probably be the same on Pro/Scorpio like the first is the same same on PS4/XB1.

If you wish something different... go with PC.

Hah, good point. You might be doing yourself a favor by starting Destiny 2 two months late.

Or you could be missing out on loot cave 2.0

But I will die of laughter if Scorpio is 30 fps

While PC is 60

Oh god, for some odd reason I want this to happen

And I don't know why yet

That market you speak of wasn't going to buy a Scorpio in the first place. They would be buying a Xbox one S.

Scorpio isn't going to sell the majority of consoles the cheaper one will.

I'm actually taking a different approach. If Scorpio drops later than D2, I'll be playing it knowing that a better looking and more consistently performing version is only a month or two away. Lord knows I'll sink many many hours into this game, so it's not like I'll miss anything and obviously won't need to restart on Scorpio, so my hype is still just as high regardless of how close they release.

The console is already done, Phil Spencer said that he's had it at home for a month already. Waiting until november to launch it seems dumb, that just makes the hardware seem weaker, they need to start the marketing right now and launch it as soon as they can.

So you think they have millions of these things stashed somewhere when most likely production didn't begin till this month or starts next month?

One preproduction model doesn't not mean they have millions to launch with

Xbox One gamers will continue on buying the games. The games will be upgraded when/if they get Scorpio so I don't think that we'll see any drop in Xbox game sales.

That's one good thing about these upgrade consoles -- no having to buy two separate $60 versions of games thanks to game compatibility. Some people did this back in 2013 for games like Madden and Call of Duty (last gen and current gen versions).

Funny to look back at it now considering the visual improvement of a game like Call of Duty Ghosts from Xbox 360 to Xbox One (720p on both) was probably less noticeable than the improvement we'll see with Call Of Duty WWII on the Xbox One (guessing 900p) vs. Scorpio (4K) even though Scorpio isn't a true next gen console and the visual upgrade will be free for people that already have it on Xbox.

All console destiny will be at 30fps...bookmark this post.

Yeah, I agree.

Anyway... Destiny 2 will probably be the same on Pro/Scorpio like the first is the same same on PS4/XB1.

Yup, i doubt they will put any extra effort on the Scorpio model, it will be the same as PS4Pro. And Sony has the exclusivity content dealios in place again.

In that case I think the PC release would be best for you, I don't see Bungie making a big deal when it comes to differences between the console versions.

I doubt it but so what? Most you'll have to wait is maybe 2 months.

Edit: people getting a little presumptuous about Scorpio not getting any optimization...

I think the core Destiny market as in mentioned in the OP (4k TV players who want a core multiplayer game to play) are probably already on the PS4 Pro bandwagon and moving to Scropio won't be enough of a leap to justify the costs.

The market Microsoft would want is the average PS4 user base but 1st party titles are the best ammunition for that rather then a a bit of extra draw distance etc.

I'm officially all in on team August/September. Seeing the release dates for games like shadow of War and madden has me convinced.

Also: I'm wondering if Scorpio will help encourage devs to support the PS4 Pro more. I'm not saying that they'll pick Pro over Scorpio, just that having two "high end" console SKUs makes it easier for devs to justify improvements.

Consider me on the August team. Too may games coming out starting in August to miss that window. Pretty sure the S came out then, so I don't see why it can't.

Maybe, but we might get the line that you can buy all the games you want on XBox and just transfer them to the Scorpio when it launches.

I can't see it before Oct/Nov at the moment. Waiting for E3.

Scorpio will be available immediately after Microsoft's press conference.

That's slightly earlier than the time the S was available (August), and they showed the system to Digital Foundry in, what, January? How long does FoxConn take to manufacture those things?

lol

Is this a real question?

Activision is buddying up with Sony this generation, that is why Destiny had exclusive/timed content on PS3/4 and Xbox fans were complaining for a long time. This game will come out when it is set to and probably have some enhancements when the Scropio comes out but don't hold your breath on a same date release.

If this was a Ubisoft game, it be a different story unless they ended that deal.

That being said, Scorpio will come out in November in time for Holiday. Destiny probably will be September cause that's when they set their release dates.

Scorpio gonna be Sega Saturn 2.0?

The infrastructure's already in place within the industry to cater to a higher end Console variant.

Great reply.
Oh wait you were being serious?

You actually really think Scorpio is launching in JUNE?

Let me laugh harder.
