Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

Yeah, they talked about multiple different new overworld things. Like dungeons to find, treasure maps leading to valuable chests, side quests from characters you find in the world.

Honestly I wished they had showed this instead of talked about it.

That is what is leading me to be luke warm on it.

From what they showed it looked like a prettier, more refined Destiny. Which is fine if they really back up the talk woth stuff to do that's interesting.

I am interested in the beta, but I feel like Bungie missed an opportunity to show more. I don't care about the story missions, after TTK I am happy knowing with what a Luke smith team can deliver.

It really was Patrols, and areas to discover that consisted of the bigger let down in D1. They should have show a real gameplay trailer just showing a player dropped in patrol and running off to do something for a minute.

Oke my impression.

Oh shit we finally know whats behind the door in the Tower!!! :P

No serious. First props on the reveal. That was great with alot of stuff in and intresting talk and alot to show.
Overall the look was oke. Just offcourse more flashy then Destiny 1 really. Not blown away by that. But think its fine. It felt alot like Halo for some reason at certain points.

Story sounds intresting. But hope it feels huge what happened and hope the worlds are going to be alive, bigand with NPC and stories etc. Thats more important then extra CGI scenes. Looks like they done that. But first wait and see on that. We have heard that before.

The super felt abit copy paste. Warlock super was just the Hammer with a sword. And the Hunter super was just Arcblade with a staff and better.

Crucible. Not a fan of 4vs4. Again have a feeling to want to go the old Halo route in that. And i dont think the game is for that. I play also with alot of people and no 6vs6 is a letdown.

No Raid Matchmaking is good. I am firmly against it. This guided stuff is decent imo. LFG would have been better. On Xbox lucky you can still use that but other platforms really needed one also.

Overall enjoyed it. Not blown away. Looks more like Destiny 1.75 and thats based on Rise of Iron Destiny. Still gonna be day one there. Because i am a big D1 player. And its does enough from the looks of it to jump in right away.

Did they specifically say fire teams were still three?

The leaker from yesterday said they were 4 now, and he ended up being right on a lot of things.

They didn't specifically call it out, but all of those gameplay segments showed 3 characters together. The only time there were more were the 4 for the Crucible splash and the 6 for raids / LFG mechanic.

I must say that, as someone whose never played Destiny past the demo, I had no idea what half the terms in that reveal meant. I doubt I'll buy Destiny 2 not because I think it'll be a bad game but because I never feel right getting into such massive MMO-like series far after their community's been established; whilst everyone will be rejoining whoever they played D1 with I'll be some low-level 'noob' still figuring out what a Strike is.

I came into Destiny after the Taken King came out. Never got the snobbery or "noob" treatment.

They are gonna save stuff for future events

Holy shit it's like you want everything today, we got till September
E3 and Gamescon are before this releases

Bungie Day too, Beta will show what's in store for us

They gave us an introduction, I think it was a good step in the right direction

Also how many fucking Raids do people want?
1 is good enough to start with, then those expansions will literally expand on the base game adding more stuff!

100+ hour Story campaign
40+ Strikes
1000+ lengthy side quests
5 Raids

If the game doesn't have something close to this at launch, then it's not worth my time.

For those wondering if you can use WoW tokens to buy Destiny 2... well here it is.
"Does this mean I'll be able to use my Blizzard Balance to purchase Destiny 2?

Yes!"

http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/news/?d=2017-5#181745

I gotta get on that WoW grind again.

Will Destiny 2 offer the same cross-game social features that Blizzard titles currently have?

Destiny 2 will be integrated into many of Blizzard's existing social features—you'll be able to chat with friends playing Destiny 2 the same way you already can for Blizzard games. Players will also be able to add friends and form parties the same way Blizzard gamers can. And, you'll see a Destiny 2 status icon by your friends who are playing Destiny 2 the same way you do for friends playing StarCraft II, Diablo III, WoW, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, and Overwatch.

That's really nice.

I wasn't expecting a total overhaul, but parity with some of the coop shooters that have come before would have been nice. As would 60fps on console (maybe on PS4 Pro? ah well, I am getting PC).

I'll pick it up and enjoy my 30 hours with it for sure - the value proposition is there. Its frustrating to see a squandered opportunity to improve things though. Was hoping for something new, instead of just onboarding features from communitymatchmaking sites and adding more cutscenes.

Like:
- actual open world instead of 'destinations'
- whatever happened to Firefight? loved that mode in ODST. or a proper Horde mode.
- some sort of player base/housing? Warframe does ship interiors really well, that would have been neat (and made serious microtransaction bank)
- a new class?
- a new energy type?

Just feels like they took zero chances with anything new, just tweaked some stuff. Not mad, just... mildly disappointed.

based on the trailers, looks like it, just 3 players running in a PvE world

With 3 players, there's usually someone who can't do a strike. I really wish it was 4 players. It's been said already, but that's usually the standard number for co-op games.

Any good TL;DR's or bulletpoints of new features and changes?

Have always loved the moment to moment of Destiny, but all the progression systems, the strict level and timer gating of all activities, drilling into menus to use ammo items with cooldowns, the cycle of gear resets with each overpriced DLC and a lack of raid matchmaking killed my interest dead. So chances are high they won't change enough to bring me back into the fold, but who knows?

Destiny 1 location that was never released. It's featured on the very first video on the Destiny Youtube Channel back on 2013.

Not to mention the reused textures from Venus and Vex in general on some planets.

Actually the big thing for this game will be how the Live Team does. There's the rumours that the Live Team got a lot more funding from Activision, but we'll see if that translates.

And I suspect there's more coming at E3.

Plus if you know about Destiny, alot of the news comes from the community pouring over content. So those YouTubers will have a lot to say.

At this point in time, the game looks like Destiny 1.5 to me. They've refined the formula, throwing out what didn't work and finding ways to improve it, and they've expanded the scope and scale of what they had but didn't deviate too much from what worked and kept their core fanbase playing. For those hardcore Destiny fans, I think it'll be a natural extension of the first game and most likely better on the majority of fronts.

But I hope the game has more new stuff: AI with advanced behaviors, maps with more dynamic elements, weapons with more interesting abilities, armor with more control over appearance and stats, worlds with more freedom to explore, and of course, missions and battles with more unique mechanics. All of that is what I would expect from a sequel. This is solid for an expansion, but I hope there is more beneath the curtains.

Worst case scenario, it'll be more Destiny, and that's great as long as it's not overpriced and overnerfed.

What really hurts the most for me was Noseworthy saying the new patrol maps where twice as big as the old one when the rumor was that they were going to be bigger than all of the D1 patrol maps combined.
Never believe unsubstantiated rumours I guess?

I feel like this always happens.

I go dark for a livestream, watch the whole thing beginning to end, and think "man, that was all awesome" and then come on GAF and everyone's like "blah, this game is gonna be such garbage!"

Like, this looks like what D1 *should* have been, and the most realized vision of the game to date. I'm fucking hyped as shit for this, especially considering how I usually play games like this. That solo player looking to join a group of people for a raid? That matchmaking mode was fucking *designed* for me.

Absolutely! But we're beyond that now, and the people feeling a little disappointed were expecting big changes worthy of a sequel, rather than elements like matchmaking and no more returning to orbit first that could (and should) have been patched into the first game years ago.

Anyone who just wants more Destiny should be stoked for this. Anyone wanting a full sequel that finally pushed visuals now that the game isn't cross gen, added new mechanics like space flight or massive open world environments, or did anything that couldn't have been done with an expansion alone... there's nothing to see here.

every WoW expansion does not cost $15 and the game has also a monthly fee so I still can't understand why people insist in comparing them

WoW expansions come out every 2 years for 40-50 dollars.

Destiny had yearly 30-40 dollars expansions, plus 15 dollar DLCs twice in the first year. Sure there's a sub difference, but the comparison really isn't that off.

...I would pay a sub for Destiny if it meant WoW level content.

I don't know what to say man, people have different opinions and a lot of people got really burned by Destiny 1, especially when they thought it didn't deliver on the promises that were made about it.

I do think it looks pretty good but I agree with some of the sentiments that it felt like there would be more than what was presented today. But may be they'll show off more to satisfy what I'm looking for.

I do agree though it doesn't look like garbage and some of the things they're doing look pretty great but I feel like a lot of it should have happened before Destiny 2.

Has anyone said it would be bad or garbage? It seems like the worst thing people have said is "meh." At worst, it will be D1 - a solid way to waste some time with great shooting.

They were saying that the EDZ is twice as big as any playspace they ever designed for D1, so the new areas seem pretty sizeable.

That's good to know. I've always felt restricted in the D1 spaces, because each area felt kind of like a big corridor or something. I don't think Destiny needs to be open world, but I do hope they feel more open.

Like, damn this is beautiful, but I want to actually EXPLORE that, not just have it be a skybox with an invisible wall. I'll reserve judgment til I see more though.

With this game they had a chance to remedy that but from this announcement it feels like they are still trying to sell an expansion as a full on sequel, with 1 raid, 3 strikes, and 4 new maps, no new classes, no new races, etc.

This is an interesting thing you just made up.

lol, what a fucking stupid attitude. Of course I played it, just like everyone else that was lied to and suckered into buying it. But at least now I can steer clear of destiny 2, since they wont give probably one of the most requested features.

Yes, all 15 million players were "lied to," "psychologically manipulated and tricked" (as another poster said), and of course, they are such big suckers. Let me go tell my multiple friends that love the game (as I do). God forbid people like anything. Do you know how much of a condescending jerk you sound like?

I just can't be excited about this. At least not yet.

Everything I saw should have been in Destiny 1. I'm almost inclined to say that this is the game that we were originally promised. But there's nothing here that screams sequel to me. It's incredibly safe. And from a company like Bungie, that's extremely worrying. What I loved about the Halo era, was that every game was new and iterative. They tried new things. For sure, some of it didn't work out. But still.

I'm sure people will be eating this all up and that's fine. But I'm seeing more of a refined expansion than a sequel.

I remember when they talked about the Court of Oryx and how that was this huge deal of an event to do in the open-world. Turns out it was nothing but boss fights that were rendered pointless once the raid came out.

I feel like these overworld events are going to amount to a slight upgrade to what you can do now, and will be pointless to do.

I think my taste just lines up more what with Bioware is rumored to be doing for their Destiny-like game.

I will say that Acti-Blizzard sure does know how to drum up hype though, god damn they are masters at their craft.

I still haven't seen it. To those saying this looks like an expansion, does it seem like Destiny 1 content could nicely fit alongside Destiny 2 as a single game?

Dont worry, GAF could not understand why people bought Ghost recon over the many JRPG's out this quarter and mega review scores.

Who cares, Destiny 2 will be great and have a massive following.

It seems a lot of people expected something that to put it simply just isn't Destiny. This game sold more than 20M copies on console, has a huge and devoted fanbase. If you played the game, there's simply no way to point at things like the new treasures, undiscovered sites, caves, sidequest missions, the campaign presentation, character involvement, class rehash, new weapon types, new planets, clans integration, PvP changes, etc and be like...."yeah, whatever."

You either didn't spend much time on Destiny or your interest in the genre itself is very small. Nothing is perfect and this certainly won't be but the changes are looking great. It feels like the vision they had in the first place.

Oh I'm sure come launch it's going to look incredible, especially with the art style. I just think my expedition were a little too high.

The bungie hype will always be crazy high. Now with Blizzard there, the hype train will go crazy...

Keeping my own expectations in check. I know Bungie and Blizzard.

Please, tell me when and I how I was lied to and/or suckered
