Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

Some PvP news that has me soured now:

-4v4 across all PvP game modes which is already known, Means RIP Crucible trains
-Heavy Ammo only allotted to the person who picks it up, which is good to stop 12 people having rockets and machine guns up at a point, but since your Sniper, Shotgun and Fusion are all heavy weapons now, only one person will have that any any given point. Which makes the game less "play how you want" like the first and more "play like Halo Reach" with one power weapon on map and abilities everywhere.
-Titan/Warlock skating got canned. So RIP interesting movement mechanics.

Overall looks like they're trying to get Halo players back, which is cool for Halo players, but not so cool for people who liked Destiny more. It's not like they're letting people maintain accuracy while they jump so it'll just be Halo but dumber.
Yeah, that shit annoyed the hell out of me. In fact, it was those awful accuracy penalties that made me stop playing the game (same thing with Titanfall)

I haven't watched anything yet (can't right now) but I'm curious. Have they changed anything at all about how they handle that stuff in Destiny 2? (ADS/hip fire accuracy, accuracy penalties when jumping, movement speed penalty when aiming, etc,)

So much for being solo friendly, Bungie. I once again see no point in not allowing guided games for heroics. Hopefully we're not seeing the full picture just yet and there is more info to disclose this.

I'm trying to be a little optimistic here. Let's look at it again.

I would assume that hovering over the difficulty makes the options below appear.

Because honestly, if this doesn't work for heroic Nightfall and Raids, that makes this entire thing completely pointless. I refuse to believe they' would do something so stupid.

Also, we know that it's available for Trials as well. But I hope it's also available for every other activity, including story missions. Would be fun to do the daily/weekly heroic story people. (i.e. I would actually do it.)

So I tried to make a bulleted list of all the stuff I noticed from the presentation. I stopped watching when the Blizzard guy came on, but I'm pretty sure there is a whole thread dedicated to that info:

    • Build amazing things to do
    • Always someone to play with
  • First mission is called "Homecoming"
    • Cabal attack the Tower and Traveller

      • EDZ is largest zone they've ever built by factor of two.
      • Zavala goes to Titan.
      • Methane Ocean.
      • Huge structures.
      • No landmass.
      • Cayde goes to Nessus (planetoid).

  • Character named Hawthorne in the EDZ.
  • Explosive throwing knives seen.

Thank you!

Best of luck to all the players who need/use the Guided Games function, I am definitely a little iffy on it, but I hope it works out

I dont want to make this anything about console wars, I hate that crap, but I do want to mention, if you play on Xbox, the LFG feature is very very cool and it works well.

2 weekends in a row we were either down 1-2 players or someone had to go abruptly and we finished our raids with LFG players, it was pretty cool.

A lot of the Destiny 1 problems were attributed specifically to the engine wasnt it ?

It was not properly updated to get content out quickly and it was not made with current gen in mind both of those things can and seem to be fixed given the scale of the game.

The issue was never gameplay systems or how the engine handled audio it was how often it had to load or how last gen held the game back.

So much for being solo friendly, Bungie. I once again see no point in not allowing guided games for heroics. Hopefully we're not seeing the full picture just yet and there is more info to disclose this.

That's absolute bullshit if they are still not allowing the "real" Nightfall to have this feature.

Hopefully when you hover over "Heroic" the options pop up.

I assume the "Guide" option will let you look for people if you already have people in your Fireteam so that shouldn't be an issue I guess.

Way too early to tell what the details of this situation are going to be.

Say Nightfall difficulties have been adjusted so Normal is the same as what we are used to now, and Heroic is an additional challenge feature. Then it makes sense to have Normal Nightfalls allow you to use Guided Games.

If you want more challenge (Heroic) then hopefully Guided Games has introduced you to a player or several players you would like to team up with for the extra Challenge.

A lot of speculation here, but this lines up exactly with what Bungie's MO has been for the social aspect of this game. The challenging stuff requires allies, and part of that challenge is meeting others with similar goals.

Also as an added note: You can be sure that Heroic mode for Raids will not have Guided Games as an option.

So Nessus is in our system. My apologies.

Here is the Wiki entry for it:

7066 Nessus (/ˈnɛsəs/; from Greek: Νέσσος) is a centaur (a type of icy minor planet) that was discovered by David L. Rabinowitz, working with Spacewatch, at Kitt Peak on 26 April 1993. It was the second centaur found by him (5145 Pholus being his previous find), and the third centaur discovery (2060 Chiron, discovered by Charles Kowal in 1977, was the first). Nessus was officially announced on May 13, 1993, in IAUC 5789 with designation 1993 HA2.

Orbit[edit]
7066 Nessus has an orbital period of 122.4 years, an eccentricity of 0.52 and an inclination to the ecliptic of 15.6 degrees. At perihelion, it moves much closer to the Sun than Uranus, while at aphelion it moves out well beyond the orbit of Neptune.

The orbits of centaurs are unstable due to perturbations by the giant planets. Nessus is an "SE object" because currently Saturn controls its perihelion and its aphelion is within the Edgeworth–Kuiper belt.[5] Nessus is estimated to have a relatively long orbital half-life of about 4.9 Myr.[5] Fifty clones of the orbit of Nessus suggest that Nessus will not pass within 1AU (150 Gm) of a planet for at least twenty thousand years.[6]

Im a Halo player who actually loved Reach and none of those things made me happy. 4v4s will be alot slower and less epic. Than Destiny 6v6s, no more hype team wipes or anything. Killing 4 people doesn't feel as cool as killing 6.

The ammo situation is really lame but doesn't bother me that much. Hopefully that means the heavy person will drop ammo on death.

Why'd they remove skating?

Not sure about 4x4 but loved everything they showed. Hyped.

I loved the bigger battles, so it's a shame. However, I think, even though they are aiming for smaller battles doesn't mean they can't add a mode with bigger teams/more people. I think if people make noise they will add the option in a later update or DLC or something.

Yeah it might be cross character. So you have ten passes/loot chances per week but you can use them across all characters.

Maybe you have 10 chances to beat it in a week and once that's up, you can't use the guided system anymore and have to revert to outside means again. It would force people to actually try and give the activity an actual attempt unlike LFG where some bail on the first wipe.

Okay, so this looks structurally identical to Destiny - am I missing anything?

Biggest question - how explorable in this, on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the original game, and 10 is Witcher/Fallout/Skyrim?

4vs4 is a shame. Have a feeling they are trying to get their Halo thing back. But Destiny is not the game for that. And you know. There is still Halo.
6vs6 was fine for casual PVP.

Well with your scale that lands it at a 10 ;p. But really though, it's too hard to say right now. I've seen statements that their largest in game area is two times larger than D1's largest area (no names given on any of that either). And they mentioned treasure maps with dungeons on patrol with their own bosses.

No, there is absolutely zero reason to introduce this if they don't let you use it for Heroic modes. That's complete nonsense and does not fix the issue at all.

It would be more pointless stubbornness from Bungie.

Question anyone who gives you are answer to this because there really isn't enough information out there to compare yet.

I love that they haven't spoiled us by showing all exotics, yet.

They are attempting to save as much as possible for player discovery at launch. Saw how well received the community uncovering new activities and events as they were bringing them online for the first time was well received, have built upon that in many, many ways.

Stoked to see Luke up there doing the presentation. Ive known him for some years now. The passion he talks about having for Destiny isnt lip service, he very much feels that way about that game. That series is in the best possible hands going forward.

Well there's also 4 months of PR. They need to keep some things back.

Finally caught up with the information and watched some footage. Looks like a bigger, better Destiny 1, with a far more interesting and cinematic story, with a plethora of QOL updates. Sounds great to me!

Admittedly I was hoping they would have some new playable races and at least one new class so that was disappointed. But everything else looks/sounds great. Anyone who enjoyed the first game I imagine is satisfied.

I'm probably asking an impossible question, but what are the chances it will repeat the same mistakes the first one did? In that we will be going to the same locations a million times and the same goes for sub/real boss fights. I mean, I can't remember how many times I defeated that giant flying eye but it was waaaaaaaaay too much.

Couple thoughts after watching the reveal with a friend:

Pretty dissapointed tech wise. 3 years later, complete focus on current gen and all we get are better particle effects? I know they probably made lots of changes under the hood like improving their shitty tools but they don't even have proper cloth physics on the hunters cloke etc. I feel like every AAA PS4 game right now has cloth physics (which I really love btw)

Furthermore all we get is 1 new subclass per class??? Really? Thats wat we got with an expansion 2 years ago. Additionally the warlock one looks exactly lkike the sunbreaker and the new hunter one looks like the bladedancer just with a different weapon.

The only big change imo (from what they have announced so far) are the new side quests and finally some characters that can talk to you in the open world.

If Taken King was Destiny 1.5, this looks like Desitny 1.6 to me. It all depends on the loot and progression system now for me. If they only changed a couple of things there I'm really dissapointed. Otherwise I will still most likely spend hundreds of hours in this game again.

Also taking 10+ minutes to announce Raid matchmaking is stupid as well. They could have easily patched this in Destiny 1 (yea maybe it would have been a little simpler) but still it feels like they only didn't do it so they got one more feature they could talk about for D2. (Like with CoD where they had to talk about every minor change because hardly anything changed and they needed something to market the game)

Biggest dissapointment for me is definitely that we only get one new subclass for each class. Or will they announce more in the future?

Edit: The menu and especially the character screen looks exactly the same. For a worthy sequel I kinda expect more than copy and paste their. Even the weapon description etc looked exactly like in D1.

I would just like to comment on the graphics and framerate on console,I think they look fine and I think it was a conscious decision to not go crazy so they can still have the same or close to the same amount of mobs on screen without the engine buckling.

The encounter design would suffer a lot if they had less mobs in the raid fights.
It should also help them get content out faster.

Now with that being said i would love to see them add a option to unlock the framerate in PVP.

Grind is a natural part of this kind of game, so your mileage may vary. It's like asking for no grind in an MMO, it's sorta part of the genre.

They do seem to be allowing more variety of things to do on planet though. It's too early to tell what the grind will be, but it will exist.

I can't imagine the developers wanting to have such scarce evolutions in ideas. I'd have so many ideas for a sequel, where is that something that is NEW, that is fresh? Where is that "This is Destiny 2" feeling? I see they have little tweaks here and there but it seems a bit unsettling. A new class or race out of the box, new race attributes, ANYTHING! Please!

The problem is that this sets the foundation of what to expect for this installment and the fact that most of it is QoL improvements makes me nervous.

No more snipers/shotguns off spawn is the greatest thing I've ever heard.

Yep. One big turn off for me during PVP. Cannot stand people spawning with shotguns and running around using just that. As a Halo dude, I'm all for these changes.

In terms of the new subclasses, I definitely like the look of the Sentinel and Dawnblade(?). That arc class for the Hunter I'm not too sure about. Looks like a Blade Dancer just with some cool animations to look at. One cool ability I saw during that Homecoming footage with the Warlock, the ability to instantly land on the ground when you're up in the air. That will be very helpful in a combat situation.

Also, is there really one new subclass and are they bringing back the old ones? I was hoping the old ones would get scrapped and we have two new ones to choose from, similar to the first game but with a new beginning with new subclasses. Reusing old ones and only having one new one makes this feel too much like an expansion rather than a full on sequel.

EDIT: Although reading over some of these posts makes it sound like they're changing the old ones quite a bit. Ah, maybe that's a bit better. I don't know.

"The warlocks class ability puts puts a smite on the ground that can either heal you and your teammates or buff your weapons."

I was already talking about how to replace the bubble, since that Reddit leak proved true, and already talked about throwing the Titan barricade in front of the Warlock rift thing to somewhat simulate the titan bubble.
