I think if Montana Dems want to get the word out and convince Trump supporting Republicans, they shouldn't emphasize the politician attacking a reporter and that violence is wrong, it's that this guy is unstable and would rather attack a reporter than provide an opinion on the healthcare CBO score.

Even Trump supporters have to question a candidate when they choose donors over their constituents and support a bill that may take away their insurance.

Parts of CNN are certainly news, but most of what it (and all cable news) does is punditry. It's talking about the news in an entertaining way. CNN has its team of Trump surrogates on because they create entertaining moments. CNN loves it when clips of Trump surrogates saying dumb shit go viral on Twitter. They will keep doing whatever they can to generate those moments.

As much as I hate this shit on CNN, and despite people being payed to come on and say this shit, they're spouting real talking points and narratives generated by millions of Americans. Even if some legitimately don't believe it, they still represent a huge chunk of Americans who do. As dumb as the conversation might be, they're real conversations spoken every single day by real voters.

Not saying having those people come on and get paid is the best way to converse about the news.. but it's sadly real.. and those talking points don't just go away because they're not on CNN. I find the whole situation pretty fucked up. They get paid to say the most blatantly, factually incorrect shit imaginable, and that's pretty disgusting, but they're saying shit that Trump voters, supporters, and republicans in general truly believe. I enjoy seeing them get roasted/put in their place from time to time because of who/what they represent.

There's a lot wrong with CNN and there should be a LOT changed about some aspects of their news programs, but I'd say the majority of the time there are some pretty well spoken, informative people who have airtime. I watch it a lot and learn new things every single day from professionals in particular fields on a wide range of subject matter.

There's a lot they get right as well.. and I think that's often overlooked because of particular soundbytes and video clips that dominate social media.

Depends on State law, but in many states, cops have to witness​ a misdemeanor crime to arrest. Sometimes a witness or victim can file a citizens arrest, but that too depends on State law.

The relevant ones appear to be 45-5-201 Assault, and 45-5-202 Aggravated Assault.

45-5-201. Assault. (1) A person commits the offense of assault if the person:
(a) purposely or knowingly causes bodily injury to another;
(b) negligently causes bodily injury to another with a weapon;
(c) purposely or knowingly makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with any individual; or
(d) purposely or knowingly causes reasonable apprehension of bodily injury in another.
(2) A person convicted of assault shall be fined not to exceed $500 or be imprisoned in the county jail for any term not to exceed 6 months, or both.

45-5-202. Aggravated assault. (1) A person commits the offense of aggravated assault if the person purposely or knowingly causes serious bodily injury to another or purposely or knowingly, with the use of physical force or contact, causes reasonable apprehension of serious bodily injury or death in another.
(2) A person convicted of aggravated assault shall be imprisoned in the state prison for a term not to exceed 20 years and may be fined not more than $50,000, except as provided in 46-18-219 and 46-18-222.

I think the lesser charge is probably appropriate, all things considered.
