Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

- "Best DC movie since The Dark Knight"

- Gal Gadot's performance being praised as a highlight

- Higher RT score than Guradians of the Galaxy 2 and the GOAT Thor 2: The Dark World

Cue the bet you didn't see this coming gif.

96% I said goddamn. Not even the wildest dreams of the DCEU boyz.

I guess the solution for DC is easy: hire talented directors from now on.

oh shit, we could get a whole WW trilogy set before her BvS apperance

we wouldn't even need to consider it part of the DCEU!

That's the best thing for them to do.

Keep it as far away from the 'damaged' Joker, Bruce "Frank Castle" Wayne and Somberman as possible.

Hell we'll see how WW performs at the box office, but after that they may give Patty a bigger budget and I'd love for us to go full fantastical and mythical

right? double down on the bright, fantastical nature of her background and explore her 100 years away from humanity by fighting mythical beasts and exploring her history with Cheetah

I would like to think that's the reason sales will be worse, but you know everyone is going to blame it being a female-centered movie.

Everyone expected this movie to suck. The fact that it doesn't is going to turn a lot of heads that wouldn't otherwise care. Wonder Woman will have long legs, it's going to make bank.

Wonder Woman dragging the DCEU to the promise land. Who would have saw that coming 4 years ago.

I had my doubts, but glad to see it appears to have turned out well.

Yeah but also makes it sound like there's been more than 5...

Seven, actually. You're likely forgetting Watchmen and...

(Eight if you want to count The Losers but I'll let that one slide.)

Filmmaking is really like playing russian roulette, they went all-out with BvS and it was critically panned and now Wonderwoman is well received.
Producers and Execs must be really confused right now.

Not really. Put effort and quality into something, it will be good. Do not and it will be recived poorly.

Both movies will make bank though. They aren't that confused.

If anything, Mos, BvS and SS showed them exactly what not to do. Just do the opposite of whatever the heck those movies were trying to be and you're good.

Now this needs to make a lot of money and break records so Captain Marvel won't have a chance in hell of overtaking it. I'm feeling better that we may live in a world where Captain Marvel doesn't make more money than Wonder Woman.

Oh yeah, plus the fact that this is the first major female-led superhero movie (emphasis on major, before someone starts screaming at me about fucking Elektra). As we've seen countless times over the last few years, underserved markets show up.

I do wonder how Capitain marvels going to do. It has been a bit weird that until Black panther every standalone MCU Superhero film that isn't an ensemble cast has stared a straight white male.

There's no version of reality where CM tops 500 million worldwide.

Do we really need to bring fanboy wars into the thread?

We should be glad that we're likely going to have two great female solo films, not pitting them against each other.

I don't think the problem with BvS was that they didn't put the effort into it. They definitely tried very hard to get somewhere.

The problem was that they completely misjudged where they should be trying to go. Even if you take care of all the surface level oddities in that film, the problem is at a very fundamental plot level. It's just not a fun or interesting story to watch.

I can't explain Suicide Squad. I think I even prefer the twisted adolescent idea of dark, moody, philosophical stories they presented in BvS over the attempts at 'hip' comedy in SS. BvS was bad, but at least it felt like someone wanted to say something there, even if it didn't work at all. SS just felt like a completely cynical attempt to get at young teen edginess, as seen through the eyes of 50-year old producers.

I'm very happy this is getting reviewed better though. Kinda looking forward to seeing it now even. I watched SS out of morbid curiosity but I was convinced that was going to be the last time I ever watched one of these.

"There's no version of reality where Ant-Man tops 500 million worldwide."

Also, you seem to be purposefully ignoring my question from earlier in the thread at this point.

Considering you implied that there is a possibility that Wonder Woman makes $1 billion, I'm not sure you're the best guy to be giving out box office predictions.

I love Marvel's female superheroes.................except Captain Marvel. I think I'm more excited for that Black Cat/Silver Sable movie that will probably never get made.
