Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

This is insane! My expectations were increased after all the buzz we've been hearing, after WB upped their box office prediction, and especially after they moved forward the review embargo but I never imagined waking up to a 96% 51 reviews in!

It's sad to say this but if this movie failed miserably it would take decades (if ever!) for WW to have another live action chance. Batman and Superman can fuck up many times and will still return. For WW this was more critical and for that I'm glad she knocked it out of the park!

What's with these masterpiece posts?
He said he was surprised to see the reviews so high and that he was even more hyped. I was trying to temper his expectations (I generally end up disappointed if I go in too hyped for a movie). Masterpiece is just the word that came to mind I guess. I didn't know others were using that "not a masterpiece" phrase a lot. For what it's worth, my overall opinion of the movie is that it's a strong and touching origin story that left a smile on my face. :-)

Gambit is never happening.

A strong and touching story ?
Well thanks for setting my expectations too high, you jerk.

I don't know a ton about Shazam, but from what I gather the character is oftentimes more-or-less Big, but a superhero right?

If he wasn't doing Gambit, I genuinely think Channing Tatum could fit the part incredibly well and capture the inner 12 year-old very well. Dude's got some fantastic comedic chops.

I could totally see him pulling off moments like this:

Lol at Gambit

If this film does well, hopefully it'll give Marvel confidence in Captain Marvel and perhaps will even encourage them to take more risks with it.

Along with their Phase 5 She-Hulk and Squirrel Girl movies.

Just come back from watching this movie. The only complain I can make is the god awful slow mo. You can say what you want about Jack Snyder but no one make action scenes to look as good as him, not even Michael Bay.
I like the mix between the depressing world of DC and the bright and hopeful hero ideology of Marvel in this movie tho, they blend so well with each other. Overall I think this movie is a brighter Man of Steel.

What is "taking more risks" to you?

Not feeling beholden to particular narrative formulas, feeling more free to explore the weirder aspects of Captain Marvel and her particular corner of the universe, not feeling compelled to insert a prominent male supporting character in the film and/or the film's marketing who'll have almost as much screen-time as Carol as a means of not dissuading certain male audience members from seeing the film, etc.

I've never seen a Jack Snyder movie. What's he done?

INSANE.

Just got up and the RT score has held.

So not only did the movie turn out well, it's one of the highest RT EVER for a comic book movie. (Or is it THE highest?)

Man regarding all these tomatoes it's hilarious that we have to use this thing to certify film ratings swear that fruit is not even used in food that much as compared to Hollywood

Am I horrible if I want, like a Harley and Wonder Woman movie or something? They had good chemistry in the recent Justice League vs Suicide Squad comic. Wonder if that would able to translate to the big screen.

Wait, wait, but what about-

Articles like this will pop up for every DC movie, especially if JL is a letdown. It's too good of a click bait. Like the recent JL rumours, which, as some people here noticed, can't be right since all of the actors were in other projects at the time of the alleged SOS reshoots.

While it's pretty certainly going to stay in the 90s with 54 reviews in, remember that most of these movies end up with over 200 reviews by the time everything is finished. It's possible that it'll drop to something closer to 92-93, which would still be fantastic.

After this and the tragedy within the Snyder family, you'd hope that, maybe.... maybe people would stop feeding into the doom and gloom rumor mill around Warner Brothers comic book movie production for a bit.

Damn, if you filter by "Top Critics" it's at a full 100% with an 8.8 average. Only 11 reviews in that category so far, to be fair, but very impressive.

True. I just figured by now it would be within the margin of error. But yeah, it will probably drop some.
