Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

Gotta give props to Snyder for casting Gadot tho. He got so much shit for it but I thought she was a fine choice mainly cuz I had and still have such a crush on her since her debut in the Fast & Furious movies.

Yet how co wrote the script for this movie and he is producer. So..

Edit: Oh yeah he casted Gadot.

Snyder has a "Story by" credit for Wonder Woman's script, so co-writing it is a bit of a stretch. More like he helped plot out the initial version. He did produce though. And cast Gal.

So, we had all the doom and gloom headlines about Wonder Woman. Turns out:

Then we had blogs and such posting that Justice League was on production recess due to creative issues and production troubles. Turns out it was due to the tragedy within the Snyder family.

Maybe... maybe.... maybe people should stop buying into all the poisonous, bogus rumors about the production of these films for a while?

Sexual assault claim.

He literally grabbed a woman's pussy multiple times and then walked over to his buddies and told them to smell his fingers. When the story came out then he said that he didn't remember this particular incident because he was drunk. But he kind of admitted that it could have happened so people's reaction was like "so is that something you've done before?" and that was that.

Not feeling behold to particular narrative formulas, feeling more free to explorer the weirder aspects of Captain Marvel and her particular corner of the universe, not feeling compelled to insert a prominent male supporting character in the film and/or the film's marketing who'll have almost as much screen-time as Carol as a means of not dissuading certain male audience members from seeing the film, etc.

Thank you for elaborating. I see everyone throw "taking risks" around and it's such a vague and blanket statement. Do people feel WW already takes risks? If so, why?

I don't know what all that means. If it's good, I'm catching it regardless, which it sounds like WW is so far. First DCEU movie for me!

Snyder isn't a writer, the film's sole screenplay credit is Allan Heinberg.

Heinberg being a fan of the character probably helped in this case. He had a brief run on the Wonder Woman comic book years ago. Back when Marvel and DC were courting TV/Film screenwriters, and before they learned that said writers prioritized their comic writing dead last.

No worries! Sorry for not being clearer!

I hope that this movies helps with that tho. The problem is the clickbait culture atm. DCEU leaks are very hot also. And who is first to repost it from the big sites gets #1 spot at google top stories. So they just post it without checking it really otherwise they miss out in the change at being #1. Offcourse created abit by DC itself but hopefully this movie will change that abit and every rumor gets checked first and taken with a pinch of salt.

Wonder Woman isn't depressed and hating life and isn't trying to go for the kill at every turn.

I think that's your key difference.

She killed more people than Superman ever did in MoS.
Unless the people she slash with her sword miraculously survive.
And even the sniper who her friend didn't want to shoot
There are more moments which shows her empathy toward mankind than MoS tho I give you that.

Can't understand people hating Snyder while praising this film.
The world in this movie is as depressing as any other DC movies.

Haven't seen this film, but I imagine it's depressing at points because a lot of the film is set in "Man's World", a world that's being ripped apart by a terrible war, to help contrast the idyllic, peaceful realm of Themyscira/Paradise Island to the much more complex world of men that a potentially naive hero like Diana finds herself wading into. In other words, the grim tone serves a vital narrative and thematic purpose in a way that was otherwise absent in Man of Steel and BVS...communicating just why the world so sorely needs a hero like Wonder Woman to protect it on a visual level that works when intertwined with the story.

Also, people didn't purely dislike those films because of the dark tone. The disliked them because they were poorly written movies that often paid a great disservice to the numerous beloved comic book characters they were attempting to adapt to the screen.
