Ah, good point, didn't even think of that. Can definitely see it having a top tier SKU with one though.

Without a doubt they will have a 499 SKU with a 2 TB HDD and an Elite controller. But why not also have a 349 SKU that comes with no controller at all because most that update already own one or two?

There is ZERO chance of an elite controller in this , at least base SKU price.

Though why would you have multiple skus of the elite edition. There's a base/entry level sku. It's called the 1S.

You know, given recent announcements I'd half expect alcantara to be somehow involved. Microsoft seems to really like that.

That means it won't cost that much in fall 2017.
Unless MS want to see 100-150$ price difference between PS4 pro and Scorpio, otherwise 399.

I don't think they'll price it based on the Pro, Sony can just cut the price if they feel it's too close, so just playing into their hands trying to guess how low they'll go. I think they'll price it at a profit and not sure if $399 would be one, it's possible I guess, but probably tiny if so.
$450 is my guess, don't think they'll go as high as $500 for the standard model at least, but will offer more power, more storage (2TB) and a UHD drive over the Pro, which will probably drop to $350 and the Slims will be in the $200-$250 range.

These people you talking about always treat PS4 pro and Scorpio like release at the same time which is not, and Scorpio doesn't have some crazy GPU and still using crappy CPU, it won't and don't have rights to price it above 400 unless they want a DOA console.

I dont what those ppl know, but...

ram prices skyrocketed in the last couple of years. I wouldnt be surprised if it was a minimum of $450. $499 wouldnt be shocking either.

Hoping for $399.

If that is a problem then Sony wouldn't drop 1TB PS4 slim(which also use GDDR5) to 249 already.

Scorpio sounds interesting, but MS needs first party software to make it relevant, Nintendo and Sony are doing great on first party, MS needs to step up on that area, hopefully the price is $399.99, competition is good for everyone

My take; all the dev money MS spent on Scorpio, they better had spent it on 1st party software. The PS4Pro / PS4 vanilla ratio is 1:5, i believe it will be the same for Scorpio. So it will barely make a dent in sales. But MS already said it was more for the hardcore enthousiasts…

A lot of people are going to be severely disappointed when they announce the pricing. Hoping for $399 is wishful thinking. I'll be very surprised if they do. With the listed specification, I can't see it being any lower than $450. It's a premium device that will have a premium price.

$499 with an elite controller won't happen.

I am ready to consider early adopting @499, that price makes sense with some things taken into consideration.

@449, I am more inclined to impulse buy.

399? MS is basically giving me a topless lapdance at that point, so I'll have no problem making it rain on 'em.

Why is $399 not "premium" and $449 is "premium?"

The PS4 also doesnt have 12GB of ram. Even before the prices went up I have seen that ram difference raise the price of a prebuilt PC by $50.

What did Sony add to the Pro? 1GB of ram thats split? upgraded gpu? They did that, put it at $399 and lowered the price of the Slim. The Slim also is missing the optical port.

MS has the One S with upclocked cpu. That and what they are doing for Scorpio, blu ray drives in both....I think they are going to be selling at a loss.

But, I'm hoping for $399 too.

If $399 is the base price (rumored to be 1TB), I honestly wouldn't be completely shocked to see a 2TB model with an Elite controller for $100 more. For Scorpio specifically, I think that package would cater to the "hardcore" crowd moreso than a game bundle would.

As for the $349 SKU, you do realize that it doesn't cost Microsoft $50 to build an Xbox controller right? Any logic that involves taking the MSRP of an individually priced accessory off the base price of a combined SKU is always wrong.

there is no way there is going to be an Elite controller in that $399 price, isn't the controller worth $150?

No way in heck it'd be in the base model, but I don't think a $499 bundle would be out of the question there. Elite controllers retail for $150 but they certainly don't cost that much to build.

I dont think MS are that stupid to release a console above $399 ....its going to come down to what cherry's they are gong to offer

The reality is they are going to have the best versions of all the next major 3rd party titles regardless of any marketing deals and whatever first party they have cooking will be just that...the cherry

Very excited.....hopefully they communicate effectively the benefits of their upgraded xbox and dont fuck it up like sony did with the pro and confuse consumers and have an underwhelming lineup to show off what the console can do

Could this be called the Xbox Two? There's no way, right?

The more I think about it, the more I like it.

Confuse people into thinking this is a new console that is 100% backwards compatible.

You move one from the disastrous PR blows the One suffered, while lunching is a library of games people might have missed "last gen".

Jeff from Giantbomb had the theory that XBOX division went to the higher ups and basically said "look guys, if we want to be competitive with Sony we're going to have to sell this thing at $399 and lose money to gain mindshare."

If that's true, then wow. MS is not playing around when it comes to gaining that good will back. Now I just hope they're not banking on Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3 to be their only flagship titles. They need a steady production of 1st party games if Scorpio is going to succeed in NA and globally.

I had the theory that XBOX division went to the higher ups and said "look guys, we can't sell this for more than $399 in the current market. Really this is just a logical extension of what was available to Sony last year at a similar cost"

If that's true then hmm.

I know people like to imagine unicorns and rainbows with new hardware - all the talk of zen and 60fps started when pro was announced, and will happen again when Ps5/XB2 are announced. But at some point after you've actually been given a reasonably detailed look at the specs logic has to seep in. Doesn't it?

$399 would be terrible for my bank account, because, although it is a lot of money for me, that would mean a day one buy.
If it's $499, I'll definitely wait for the price to come down.

Whew! Thanks for bringing us down to earth. Appreciate that man.

6>4?... is so the price also has to be greater also, right?...
The ps4pro is more powerful than the ps4... and the ps4pro is more expensive than the ps4 right now... well, actually it is the same price as the ps4 at release...

So while i think that the xbox scorpio is worth 500US, and that is the same price as the xbox one at release, Xbox will have i hard time selling xbox scorpios at 500US. Unless they want to get the early adopters and then reduce it to 400 US on Black Friday...

i am starting to think that the xbx one situation is so dire, that it needs to be priced at 300 so everybody goes out and buys it.
Microsoft's xbox one and the scorpio need a combined installed base of 50 million ASAP.

So... 300 dollars without a controller or pack in game... (and 500GB disk? ) you can carry the missing parts from your xbox one... (or use your xbox elite controller you have on your PC)...

Edit: it would be possible to hit this price point (300US) if it was a special edition, pre-order only from Microsoft store...(no amazon, or any other store... they would sell the 400 dollar preorder with controller and game version)

And if new owners buy the special edition at 300, then they would go to the store to get a controller and game...

( conspiracy, lol.... Make the 300 dollar edition only work with the xbox elite controller!... 10/13/2017 is a friday, "bad luck" day... they could release an OS update, (after the next friday the thirteenth), that would allow the standard controllers to be used on the special edition console...)

400 dollars with a controller and a game.

500 dollars with a 2TB drive, and a two controllers etc...

The Xbox One situation isn't even dire. They're still making money. Also, they had to charge $500 for the Xbox one because they packed in the Kinect. It dropped to 399 as soon as they unbundled it.

In all fairness you can't use the basis of a year of tech progress as proof that the pricing model should be 1 to 1. There are other factors to take into account like what the cost of the cpu is, what their manufacturing costs are, the UHD drive, etc. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that they had that exact conversation. On the surface yes logic would seem to dictate the price falls right in line with what Sony charged last year but that's an easy trap to fall into.

$299 would be stunning and could be a game changer but I serously doubt that will happen. It will be priced $399 IMO but I'm sure there will be a $499 sku with a 2TB HD or on elite controller or possibly two $499 sku's one with 2TB HD and one with an elite contoller.
