Media Create Sales: Week 22, 2017 (May 29 - Jun 04)

They expect to ship 2.75 mil in Japan this year, according to our Pokemon Overlord unless I am misreading the post.

MHXX - 300k? 400k with 3DS legs?
MHW - lol
RE7 - Statistical noise around zero.
MvCI - 100k? 50k? Fighters aren't doing hot.

Good luck?

It's MH. It will do quite good in JP no matter the platform.

And there's XX port for the Switch. That should be a big contributor.

it will do good, but 2.7 mil means that will be a westernized game with more than 50% attach rates, do you expect that to happen

2.7 millions would be tough even for a MH exuniversity to a solid and healthy portable system right now in Japan alone
Can't see a home version doing that good
I think that even with capcom incompetence we are missing something here

The 2.75m is for all games (not just mhw) on all platforms. See the link Chris posted last page.

Capcom haven't specified their expectations for mhw.

Never heard of Nier Gestalt or Nier Replicant before. Are those new?

Japanese names of the first game. Basically older brother version and father version.

It's just Nier in Japanese version.

Gestalh = father
Replicant = brother

In less abstract and more referential terms: Gestalt is the Western styled Star Wars/Darth Vader version, Replicant is the anime styled FFIV/Golbez version. FFIV of course was clearly influenced by Star Wars.

When Kaine gets petrified, it serves a similar purpose as when Palom and Porom do the same but it kind of looks like when Han Solo gets frozen.

Yeah, didn't know about that, let's try again. I expect that MHXX switch+ MHXX 3ds to be at 1 mil, and MVCI to be at 250k, and that leaves MHW at 1.5 mil copies sold. 1,5 mil could happen though, but eh
Edit:btw, but if DQXI won't make it to 1.5 mil, then don't expect MHW to sell around that amount.

According to the forecast they are only planning two major releases this FY with one being MvCI.

Yes
But I was wrong about the 2.7 target that is total and not specific
1.5 or similar still is Capcom style but almost normal knowing their sales projections for a new big MH ps4 game

I'd like to point out that PS4 only has 2 titles the sell over 400k, and 0 or 1 depending on who you ask that has sold over a million.

It seems that no one remember a game called Dai Gyakuten Saiban.
:(

Hey, I'm a big Gyakuten Saiban fan: my main franchise by far! I love it so much I'm getting this day one despite refusing to buy any other new 3DS game.

I'm worried about this game tho. The original didn't light up the world, and sequels in these kind of games generally does less. Doesn't help that it releases shortly after Splatoon 2 and Dragon Quest XI either.

Pretty worried about the franchises future if this bombs :/ at least for non-mainline games.

Since the anniversary stream, the price the price for the first game has been lowered to 2990 yen on the eShop. They're trying to get some more sales before 2 hits so maybe it can maintain its retail numbers. There will be also a set with both games at retail.

Personally, I expect DGS2 to be my GOTY. But yeah, sales expectations are more modest.

On the other hand, spin offs usually sell less than mainline games and DGS wasn't too far off from 6 so I expect the series to have more spin offs in the future.

so................ sub 30k sales again

I just found on twitter the results from Week 21. They had 93 switches.

https://mobile.twitter.com/Yukinoshin78/status/868675042296512513

So, using the same sample this is what we have from Bic Camera Yurakucho's lotteries:

Week 21 (May 22 - May 28) - 93 switch consoles => Media Create: 27.146 sales
Week 22 (May 29 - Jun 4) - 84 switch consoles => Media Create: 23.524 sales
Week 23 (Jun 5 - Jun 11) - 83 switch consoles => Media Create: ¿? (22k?)

Still, tomorrow there're some lotteries in other stores. So we can't make conclusions with just one single store. Anyway I will try to check Bic Camera Yurakucho every week from now, let's see if we can find a pattern.

I hope so! They seem forced to use Phoenix Wright for main games so I feel it would be very stale without any spin-off games.

I know the MC crowd is sick and tired of MH talk but seriously reading the last page, I feel the need to remind people of a simple fact:

Capcom demanded from Nintendo to up switch's internal memory and Nintendo accepted.

so again, slower,

NINTENDO listened to, paid attention and accepted a suggestion from a fucking third party for their main home console hardware

let that sink in for a minute.

you guys are suggesting that that probably historical event happened just so capcom could come later on and tell them "mmh, nah, yeah thanks but no thanks, I'll pass on your console"

serisouly??

they literally did that with Megaman Collection 2 and those nes disney games

Monster Hunter talk is a desease without cure in here but that's not what Capcom has said or done.

games nintendo doesn't give a shit about and probably never came up in their negotiations.

thing is, Nintendo goes rabid when it's about a major 3rd party series in Japan in the handheld space,

Iwata always looked kind of desperate to get Monster Hunter and Dragon quest on 3DS/DS, they never care for 3rd parties but in those two cases they where like "whatever it fucking takes, that's going to be in our handheld".

nintendo putting up with capcom's demand is again a desperate measure to secure MH, in my opoinion. most likely capcom warned them "we've decided we'll be putting MH on other hardware and if you want it on switch, either you change that or you won't get it".

Sphinx, We've had quite a few people talk about the game now and not one of them has mentioned Switch. It's (presumably) not happening.

In general people need to stop going into it certain that these games will release on Switch or they will be disappointed time and time again.

So we still don't know anything about this MH:World game and some are already predicting lol sales in Japan? Hahaha

And let's wait for Capcom to announce the E3 lineup before saying that they aren't going to sell 2,75 million games this year in Japan.

Just like Randy Pitchford (of Borderlands fame) made Nintendo change the slides on the Wii U Gamepad, right? Did you enjoy Pitchford's games on Wii U? Not even Alien: Colonial Marines ended up appearing on the console, so this "Capcom wanted more RAM and Nintendo accepted" doesn't mean anything.

OK. Stepped away from this thread for a few days. Came back to ... this.

I think I going to stay away until after E3. It's just toxic here.

During the DS/PSP days and the Wii/PS3 wars where there were so many fanboy threads on both sides. But even then MC threads were a place to get away from that. They were not perfect of course but at least things were backed up by numbers, data, tangible things.

I have read this thread every week for the last 10+ years. But if it's gonna be like this going forward I think I'm out. I'll miss it, as this thread is part of my daily routine. But it is no longer giving me any joy to read.

2.75 million is easy, even on PS4 they will go north of a million with MH W and have a few hundred thousand from MHXX and Ace Attorney.

There's also no need for excessive drama :P You have the tools (ignore list) to make the thread more to your liking so no need to take a break from MC threads IMO.

If we only discussed weekly numbers these days the MC threads wouldn't be longer than 2 pages (100p.p) so the need for people to talk about anything makes the threads so long these days. If you're not interested in these discussions the best thing you can do is visit MC threads the first 2 days (Wednesday and Thursday) and then the 2 previous days (Tuesday and Wednesday). That's when IMO more numbers discussion happens.

Personally I find it pretty funny because people are showing its true colours (even if they were not hiding them very well), there are petty and sarcastic comments, bets, bannings and a lot of nonsense. Despite this I can understand why someone would not like it but as I said earlier you have the tools to fight this and make the threads more to your liking :)

Anyway, let's see what this MH: World is! It would be crazy (in a good way) if Itsuno is involved in a Monster Hunter game even if I prefer a DMC 5 but we'll see at E3 I suppose.

Mobile game, pc mmo etc. He'll it could be what your expecting but not a ps4 game. It wouldn't be that shocking. That's why you wait for confirmation before proclaiming victory.

Anything from MHXX localized name to PS4 exclusive to mobile game or the title of MH movie .

Lets recap:
- Capcom says they want better sales overseas, specifically, how handhelds are holding them back.
- MH dev is working on unannounced PS4 game.
- Sony says they have big Japanese announcements at E3.
- Couple of insiders hint at its existence.

It could be the movie name but if the game and movie are linked there's the possibility of them sharing a name.

As I stated in another thread, the fact that the (supposedly) Monster Hunter game coming to PS4/One/PC is named "World" and not "5", as well as the Western focus, make me think this is a brand new sub-series for the franchise, an attempt to broaden its potential without substituting the more traditional series, that will probably be for Switch, barring some bad scenarios (sales weakening fast / games flopping one after the other). I mean, the fact that MHXX is coming to the console is a clear indication they want to prepare the audience on it, in the same way MH3G prepared the audience for other MH games and MH3G HD Version could've done the same on Wii U (if, you know, Wii U wasn't a major failure starting a few weeks after its launch).

Everyone would be happy in the end, no betrayal to Nintendo/Japan/Spaghetti-monster from Capcom. But I guess the bitching and dooming will keep on going anyway, gah.

maybe they just drop MHXX on the switch and that's it, MHXX will be the last Monster Hunter game on Nintendo's console before return to our home, the future of home console, the god of gaming: PLAYSTATION

That's my point of view as well.

It's still the next big Monster Hunter game.

We don't know anything about it yet. It's the next game, could be big, could also not be.
MH5 would definitely be the next big one.

By virtue of being a western focused PS4 game it's going to have the highest production values for the series ever. They're not going to treat it like a small game.

I really wouldn't expect much from a modern Capcom game in that regard.

The big thing will be how much they change the gameplay and certain other aspects.

Does Capcom have the manpower to do MHW/MH5 at the same time though?

What has the Dragon Dogma team been up to lately?

That was the big reason I thought the 4chan rumour was bollocks but they must do, otherwise MH5 doesn't exist.

EDIT: Also is Taiko now the biggest third party brand that might be exclusive to Switch? lol

Monster Hunter World for PS4 (and X1/PC?) and Monster Hunter 5 on Switch seems a pretty safe bet for Capcom at this point.

It's still the next big Monster Hunter game.

It's the next big MH which might or might not be appealing to MH's Japanese audience. If it's indeed streamlined for a global audience I doubt Japan will reject World entirely, but if it changes too much it's not unthinkable that Japanese fans aren't going to be super excited for it. Without knowing more about it, it's too early to tell whether it'll indeed break a million or not.

If it strays too much from the MH formular for Capcom to be comfortable about its Japanese appeal, who's to say they won't announce a more traditional MH5 at TGS? Damage control, so to speak.

I don't think they will muddy the water like that. I also doubt they would have anything to show for a hypothetical "real" MH5 any time soon.

You laugh, but it outsold all games but Final Fantasy on PS4...

I think we will have many meltdowns and bans during E3, this will clean Media Create threads a bit. After all there are big releases coming that will shift attention else where.
