We're about to enter a weird period where the best version of every multiplatform game is going to be PC or Scorpio. But Sony is going to continue paying for exclusive content. So people will be forced to choose between the best looking version of their games, or the more content-complete version. I am kinda curious which option most people will pick.

In previous years the choice was a no-brainer, since whoever had the most powerful platform was also buying out exclusives. But for now the lesser platforms will keep getting exclusives, since Sony has the biggest install base and the most money to spend.

This assumes the average person has a choice. Very few people have a PS4 and Xbone. Even fewer will have any type of PS4 and a Scorpio. It's not much of a question at all. For me, I'd probably keep buying everything on PS4 given the choice because I prefer the controller, I have a decade of trophies there, and that's where my friends are.

I guess I most identify with Brad since the only times I enjoy conferences are when there's fuckups, gaffes, mistakes, and other cringe-inducing moments.

Yeah

The best part of the conferences are stuff like that. Or Jeff being funny. Conferences by themselves are boring.

I've never seen such excitement from GB before, not surprised it's for something inconsequential.

I just rewatched their reaction for FF7 Remake and my god, they're whining and look straight up pissed lmao

so how's ff7 coming out working for you

if you're lucky it'll be out by 2024

I don't know why but giantbomb stream this year looks low energy. And I don't like the new guy.

I'm weed E3'ing but wondering if maybe I should be watching the Easy A's instead.

I think since drew left giantbomb peeked and is on its way out. I still listen to the podcasts though.

Calm down. Its one day on a Saturday and its EA who's press conferences are usually bad. Granted this one wasn't as bad as others but it was pretty boring on the whole. Can't expect them to have much to say about fifa or madden.

Love passive-agressive comments like this

I'm not personally crazy about FF7 Remake, but it was undoubtedly a pretty big surprise annoucement and it's completely understandable if they didn't care but they were litterally complaining, making snide, overly negative comments and pouting which to me sums up most of their E3 coverage.

like do you just want aggressive aggressive comments? if so we can provide

i will never get the phrase 'overly negative' for what is at the end of the day a big marketing tentpole event. but perhaps that thought in and of itself is overly negative

Why do so many people like to discredit something that doesn't come out in the next 6 months?

I mean, obviously, if they tease a game for 10 years I get why that'd become a negative, but a year out? Two? Three? Why is that so bad? It gives you something to look forward to, to speculate about, to discuss hopes/fears with friends, etc. I'm not a fan of the notion that a game has to come out so soon or showing it was useless.

Not calling you out specifically Breezy, it's just a topic that I've been thinking out about recently and I'm using your post as a launchpad. =P

as time has gone on i think i don't personally like long hype cycles anymore, i'd rather have the thing than speculate endlessly about the thing, and if that means they get better at hiding the thing until it's nearly out that's my preference overall

like, you can't critically engage with a thing or think really about how it affects you, or how it does what it does, until it's actually out. anything before that is kinda just shittalking, and while shittalking is fun, it's, i don't know, of lower worth to me? than discussion of a game's merits and flaws and methods or mechanics?

like the most you can really say before a game is out is 'it looks like it might be good/bad/offensive/dope, but we'll wait until it's actually out' which is, um, fluff basically

i mean don't get me wrong, the hype cycle can be really fun. i really enjoyed the smash4 train for instance because nintendo were really good at feeding that cycle plus the potential for new characters was multi-universal, especially once they started branching out into 3rd parties and still making crazy trailers for them. but it's pretty rare i feel that about a game.

I get that. I enjoyed Fallout 4's shadow announcement/release. But for big "event" games like a Shenmue 3 or a FF7R, I think there's a place for a big build up. Delayed gratification is a thing, as is building anticipation over a longer period.

I see we are at the "GB wasn't hyped about the FF7 remake" part of this rollercoaster, i honestly though it would be Shenmue that kicks this off lol.

Also until both games are out all of these discussions will continue to go nowhere.
