Metroid: Samus Returns (Mercury Steam, Metroid 2 reimagining, 9/15) announced for 3DS

Wow. The treehouse footage looked real good.

Also, if ever a game made more sense on the 3ds (or even Wii U) than the Switch, it was 2d Metroid. That's a series built for a dual screen setup and it's a shame it took this long to get a new one. Looking forward to it.

I have to say that at first I was very skeptical after hearing MercurySteam were the devs, but after seeing the gameplay demo, the game looked pretty good.

People don't hate the 3DS. It's just that the 3DS's time is over. The system is archaic at this point, and they'd prefer to also have the option to play the game on their brand new piece of portable hardware. I know I'd appreciate the option. That's really all I want.
Apparently it's not, the hardware sales have been increasing year-over-year IIRC

*because of Pokemon probably, but still

+1 on the dual screens

I really can't understand the port begging when we literally just got the announcement of Metroid
friggin Prime 4 for Switch. This is but a bonus and a pleasant one at that.

Yeah exactly...lol are people really giving excuses for Nintendo to do it?
They don't need excuses, lol. As a company they are fully entitled to stopping games like that.

Although, I'd like to see the law changed to where free, and I mean no donations either, games are allowed.

Man so many people here really HATE the 3DS, I used to think GAF loved the 3DS. Guess the hive-mind changed its mind.
It's less that GAF "hates" the 3DS and more that people are (understandably) upset that some major new games are going to the 6-year-old, highly dated console rather than the $300 system Nintendo just sold them. A console that could provide the game greatly superior visuals and TV play.

This reaction would come if you replaced Switch and 3DS with any pair of successor/predecessor consoles too, btw. It's not some unique "3DS hatred".

Note: I personally don't mind it, because I still have and play my n3DS.

Admittedly I was expecting worse when you mentioned it a few weeks ago. This looks solid from the gameplay shown, just wished it was on the Switch for a superior experience. My 3DS usage is basically non-existent at this point.

I go where the games are. Will play the shit out of this on 3ds. The switch is getting a Metroid! And now the 3ds is getting one too! People are actually upset that they arent both on switch? Lol.

That's factually incorrect though.

It's a very successful system and it would be a bad business decision to completely abandon it.

Guys, if the 3DS was dead, this game likely wouldn't even be happening at all. Instead, we get 2D and 3D Metroid. Be happy.

Got two Metroid games announced in one stream can't complain. Haven't bought 3ds game since moon version but I'll pick this up to support the franchise

The port begging shouldn't be surprising. The 3DS is archaic hardware that Nintendo themselves have effectively replaced with the Switch. I could understand the nonsense in expecting a portable game to be ported to home console for the sake of wanting, but I guarantee many Switch owners invested in the system with full expectation for it to transition Nintendo's own portable market to a new generation. Nintendo can parade around "it's a home console!" all they like; the Switch is just as much a portable through and through as the 3DS, and I feel some (like myself) would enjoy seeing very, very late generation 3DS titles supported by the system.

Maybe there's a worry that the lower quality assets will leave a sour impression on Switch users, but eh. Throw it up on the eShop rendering native resolution with some AF and AA and I'm sure most wouldn't mind.

I demand AMR2 devs get a shoutout for their hard work. If they are secretly making the new Metroids with either 3DS or Switch that's another story. If not, they need recognition for their achievements first hand by Nintendo.
