They confirmed on the conference call that it is a boxing card only. No MMA.
Dana sounded very smug, he must have got a good deal. It was funny when he started by saying this is a Showtime show that will be run by Showtime and then proceeded to answer every question.
They asked him about that and he said Conor told him he wants to fight twice his year and Dana fully expects him to defend his UFC title before 2018. He caveated that with a "you never know" but in his mind at least, McGregor will be back in the UFC soon after his fight. With Dana being happy I have to wonder if Conor gave him some kind of assurance that he'll do another UFC fight after this. Or maybe it's just money.
Looks like he was youth champion rather in Ireland. Not sure about his record but this is what the wiki saysWhat's his amateur boxing record, Chuck Norris?
When McGregor was twelve years old, he began boxing at Crumlin Boxing Club under two-time Olympian Phil Sutcliffe.[160] It was here where he laid the foundations to his striking ability,[161] training with fighters such as Dean Byrne and Jamie Kavanagh, both of whom went on to train at Wild Card Gym under Freddie Roach. Kavanagh recalls McGregor as "a game kind of boxer. He was very game. He loved to fight. But he was also very strong - he could seriously bang."[162] McGregor would eventually become an All-Ireland champion at youth level,[163] but his attention began to turn towards other martial arts when he was about sixteen.[160] Despite this, and his family moving to West Dublin, McGregor continued boxing. He has regularly sparred at Celtic Warrior Gym, Blanchardstown, which has been home to boxers such as Gary O'Sullivan and Frank Buglioni.[164][165] Head coach Packie Collins, brother of Steve, commented "he comes down here and he can hold his own with world champions." He continued "I wont name names but, the last time he was up here a very good boxer of ours couldnt make head nor tail of what Conor was doing. He has what appears like a kind of chopping movement when he strikes and he doesnt use a traditional stance, so this guy just couldnt time him at all."[166]
Lol it was kind of odd. He's kind of acting like Conor's manager I guess? But really besides signing the permission slip it's strange he has been so front and centre. Maybe Showtime and UFC wanted it that way so it gives some legitimacy and doesn't look like it's behind their backThey confirmed on the conference call that it is a boxing card only. No MMA.

Sparring videos mean little but that does make me think his work rate will probably be an issue. You don't need to jab much in MMA but it's vital in boxingOkay yea he's fucked
Well I guess we will learn how relevant his fighting experience is in a boxing ring in AugustSo he doesn't have any relevant record or experience.
When Conor knocks him out you should pace yourself on all the crow eating.
Why should any 140 lb guy beat a 220 lb. guy?
That said, Bruce Lee would beat Bob Sapp.
Edit: Casual fight fans are funny, all my friends thought Ronda Rousey could beat a prime Muhammad Ali in boxing a couple years back.
i don't believe you
not even casuals would believe that
that's the same like a regular pumping dude would beat Ronda in a MMA fight
You clearly have not seen a Floyd MayweatherI hope this doesn't end up like some pussy shit.
I hope they are really going into the fight looking to knock the fuck out of eachother.
With all the hype and money sourrounding it, I'm not really hopeful. Looks like a moneygrab.
You clearly have not seen a Floyd Mayweather
fight.
The only thing I find absolutely ridiculous is that he's being trained by Kavanaugh for this fight. I mean, come on.
The stages of denial will be so immense if Conor knocks him out, I'd expect at least half of all the people who said it could never happen to say Floyd took a dive on purpose.
I'm at peace with the likelihood Conor loses, but just the idea of it going the other way is exciting for so many reasons.
Calling it now, he's going to knockout Floyd, then be a full time boxer getting them 9 figure paydays. This guy going down in history as the shrewdest athlete of all time.
No lose scenario for McGregor. Worst case he gets embarrassed fundamentally by a top 3 all-time boxer in his first & only boxing match -- which is precisely what's supposed to happen. Floyd doesn't have KO power, especially not with single punches, and it's not like he's going to stand & trade anyway so Conor doesn't need to worry about getting dropped.
I really don't know what Conor will say to clown Mayweather. He can't use his patented "I make more money than you" schtick he says to other poverty UFC fighters. Maybe make fun of his age? I dunno. This is gonna be great.
Watching Floyd get clowned in the build up then seeing Conor get clowned in the fight.
What's not to love?!

Lol the man got out boxed by Nate Diaz who is really just a Jardine type gatekeeper.
Other than fanboy reasons why would anyone think he has a chance against Mayweather?

I feel like this is all fixed. Mayweather will throw the first fight and it'll "shock the world". Yet all it will do is make him more money for the second and third fights against Connor. He is all about the money after all and him going down in the first fight makes the most financial sense.

Expecting Conor to do the fingerpoke of doom on Mayweather. They then dance in the ring as it fills up with money.
Since MMA is the superior martial arts form, you gotta respect Conor for lowering himself to boxing rules so Floyd can compete (and even have an advantage, bless him)![]()
Dude, Joe Rogan thought Ronda could take on Floyd.i don't believe you

People are all excited about the guy with knock out power fighting Floyd?
How many times are they going to hope for that one magical blow to land to knock him out?
I'm not saying it can't happen, but expecting it at this point is dumb. You run this fight 100 times, it would probably happen in at least one, but that's it. Those are your odds.
Conor understands striking principles and can adapt on the fly, no doubt, throwing punches you aren't expecting or haven't seen before.
But Floyd is going to tire him out. He's literally in the discussion for best of all time. I expect this will go as well as when professional boxers try and jump straight into MMA against a major name or former champ.
What a joke. Hug fight with May winning and a promise of a rematch.
Bayley? What a joke. Hug fight with May winning and a promise of a rematch.
Sounds like a post from someone who doesn't know anything about what Conor has done in the UFC.
