Anything that slightly resembles an L is a no no in my books. All Ws, plain and simple.
Perhaps though those mediums are experiencing leaps forward in equity, just look at stuff like UFC, boxing, rugby and others in the sporting world. Those are huge step forwards for women not to mention the larger amount of influential women in the media these days.
But when I go on xbox live if I've got one of my female friends with me in matchmaking she still gets over a dozen messages asking what she looks like and other creepy shit like that, and when she starts beating people online she gets even worse abuse.
This shit needs to stop, for fucks sake its 2017 we're gamers, why the fuck is there more outrage about female gamers than there is about rampant micro transactions in full price games, or lackluster over crowdfunded early release titles. Being a gamer shouldn't be a fucking embarressment anymore but with this shit it really fucking continues to be

What's saddest is you expect people in video games to be a bit nerdy aka intelligent but we see on full display the striking contrast in IQ and social intelligence here. Imagine if we were all super nice to women gamers hell some people may make friends even meet girlfriends online but these people are so small and petty they would rather lash out rather than even attempt to connect with someone and risk any ego. Safe in their sad little world . No wonder all the top companies now focus in hiring and training in social intelligence as the number one attribute.

Men can usually go to gaming events while being themselves. Having fun. They might even get a little too drunk in the hotel bar. And most of the time they will have a great time.
You ever read how sexual harassment is dealt with at most events? How pro players can continue their career after some heinous shit. Ever read about the women having to proof themselves being gamers? The comments? The looks?
It is not the same. If a woman wants the same relaxation as the man she will probably have to go to a women's only event.
Now I think being able to go to an event carefree is pretty basic and in fact I would argue that the men have the perks even when being excluded because they can go to all the major events without much concern.

In an ideal world, there wouldnt need for that event.
But in the real world, yes, it's necessary because women arent welcomed in the regular events. They're either sexually harassed or mocked/insulted/harassed. And it's even worse for women of color.
And it's not only in these kind of events, it's even worse for online games. I dont think you can be a woman and expect a decent treatment in online games, especially competitive ones, when microphones are involved. Because we all know how this will turn. Heck, this is precisely why voice chat in online games died in profit of group chat. Because people dont want to deal with assholes.
