Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy |OT| N.Teresting and N.Tertaining N.Fographics With-N

It'd be a bit higher, but probably not by much. It wasn't out of stock for very long.

Crash Bandicoot was quite successful in NA, but it's a bigger franchise in the UK and Europe.

And Latam too, though Latam was filled with piracy during the PSX days so not many copies were sold here I'd assume. Nowadays several people buy their games legitimately here so it'd be really interesting to see how numbers stack up. Expectations are huge for this game in all of Latam.

I started playing Crash 2 using the analogue which is what I did back in the day, but for some reason I've found myself going back to using D-pad at times. I think only time I have used analogue is when I'm on the polar bear or that jetski thing?!

Any differences mechanically or feel when compared to Crash?

Coco feels tighter for me. There have been times that I've been hit by an enemy with crash but because coco is thinner I've had a few ms extra to time my jumps over them and stuff. Could just be placebo but that's what I immediately notice. :)

Just platinumed the 1st game, getting gold/platinum relics time trails was really challenging.

Friend, I've always held in my mind a comparison point that I could never be too sure of having not played through much of Crash 1.
That is that the Crash trilogy progression is eerily similar to that of the SNES DKC trilogy.
First game is rough but has merit, the second comes along and improves on everything and then the third is almost as good but gimmicks can overload.
And this is without factoring in other funny coincidences like minecarts=boar riding or how the busty blonde of the first game mysteriously vanishes in the sequels like they suddenly thought "I made a huge mistake".

But back to Crash 1, this game is like an exercise in how much mileage you can get out of the basics of the genre, even with the remaster polish I still have moments where it's like "okay, that enemy didn't hit me" or your toes slip off the edge of a platform you just landed on, once again very much like DKC1 and its occasionally wonky hit detection and slippery platform edges. But in that sense there's something oddly familiar about it all.
It may be a product of its time yet here I am enjoying the rather faithful recreation of 90's jank and level design specifically tailored to break the spirit of children.
Basically I'm enjoying Crash 1 more than I thought I would.

It'a a fair comparison. Like DKC2, Crash 2 is by far the best in trilogy imo for how focused and polished it is. Crash 1/DKC1 are the prototypes, and the third game in each trilogy is where the devs maybe started to run out of ideas with the core gameplay, and dumped in a bunch of gimmicks to make up for it. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it really depends on how much you enjoy the gimmicks.

Crash 1's main problems on PS1 were with the controls, if I remember right. Sounds like some physics have been tweaked, so hopefully it plays better. I'm actually expecting to enjoy it more than Crash 3 this time around because, even if it's not executed as tightly as Crash 2, it's still focused mainly on straight platforming (plus it has dat sweet world map and sense of progression). Warped's core gameplay is fantastic, but I always dread going underwater or riding a motorcycle.

We'll see tomorrow.

Two questions for those who have it:

1) What happens if you pick one of Coco's original stages as Crash? Can you play it as him now?

2) Does the game track who you beat each stage as, much like Mario 3D World does? It's a minor thing but the completionist in me would go through a full Crash run and a full Coco run.

Hopefully they patch the long loading times soon.

I noticed some glitches in the 1st game, sometimes enemies and few crates dissapear when you restart from checkpoint and then continue, rarely happens but it does happen.

Still downloading , guess i'll stream my first impressions tomorrow. I have very vague memories of playing the originals as a young child.

Managed to sneak 30mins in before going to sleep and I’m really happy. It’s exactly what I wanted and I just can’t wait to play the hell out of this over the weekend and beyond.

(Crash 1 time trials are brutal by the way. Was not expecting that.)

so that time trial time on level 1, crash 1.

how?

EDIT: by the way guys, be super super careful when saving. to save is square for some messed up reason. luckily the game autosaves but man.. its not X to save on the save screen now.

IIRC it's a really short level so a really tight window of success. Many of the others will have a larger window. Can't give advice right now though since I'm waiting for the OH to go to bed to fire it up! Damn I'm excited lol

Edit: booted it up :D I'm so happy to have this again. All the childhood memories. Gotta admit though it doesn't feel right not being able to go to the ps4 menu and stare at a 3d rex or manta XD

So anyone know roughly around how long the games are if you aren't going for trials and such?

It's been a really long time since I've played these, but I don't remember them being very long.

Thing I hate is it says developed by Vicarious Visions and not them and Naughty Dog. Miss those old Naughty Dog intros, at least should have gave them some credit.

So uh

Started the game & if I try to select 2 or 3, it says "installing" underneath & I have the disc version, with no indication of how much is installed/how much longer I have to wait.

Edit: Oh, nevermind, 2 just became available. Weird.

Don't think they've ever said anything about it officially.

Sigh....

I'm going to preorder this, but I SWEAR TO GOD ACTIVISION. Screw this up and I'm done with you.

Some games do that. Especially if they're remasters of more than one game. Even though you "installed" the game it still needs to do some extra installing.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection also did this.

Holy fucking shit at Native Fortress. I don't remember this level being this hard in the original. I've already lost like 12 lives and I'm not even done.
