Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy |OT| N.Teresting and N.Tertaining N.Fographics With-N

It's difficult to put into words how incredible it is to be playing this. I've wanted this exact thing for YEARS and was starting to give up hope of it ever happening. And now it's sat in my disc drive. It's almost surreal. Today draws to a close well over a decades worth of console launches and E3's rolling by thinking this would never happen.

My other half even commented on why I was just sat there grinning to myself while playing. I explained to her why this meant so much to me, although I think it mostly went over her head. Then I told her to picture a 10 year old version of me in the EXACT same pose I was sat in now.. just sat on the floor with a controller in hand staring at the screen playing Crash. She understood that.

Me: I'll try out getting the coloured gem in The Lost City for kicks, I'll give up pretty quickly anyway

*gets it after only 3 deaths*

Welp, might as well attempt 100%. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After an hour or so.....alright, break time. I can only take so much frustration. It was fun when I wasn't getting stomped on by weird geometry or gotchas where you can't see the edge of a cliff, but some of these levels man...

Welcome to my world lol, I guess there's a little of anxiety from my part tho, it's like I want to get to 2 fast. I'm still enjoying it but I need breaks because sometimes I die by common turtles o stupid spikes.

It's really hard to see how Crash fans could be unsatisfied with the N. Sane Trilogy, aside from the loading times. An excellect remake that treats the source material with respect, while adjusting a few things to make it more easily digestible to modern gamers. Probably still harder than most would like though.

Thanks. I love how the warthog at one point just sit like "Did i just saw that? Is he supposed to do that?" XD

Out of my way, pig :D

Man, the first game can be frustrating at times.
I finally did a perfect run on Lost City and got the green gem.

Thank god dying in Tawna/N.Brio bonus stages don't count against you, but I had to quit the stage several times when I died.

Warped was literally the only one of these games developed with analogue in mind. It was much more noticeable back in the day, when you played the Platinum version of Crash 2, which only retroactively added analogue support and it felt pretty bad for most stages.

Yeah I know, but I figured they would be a bit more fine tuned than they are. Vicarious Visions did the best they could I guess.

On another note, oddly enough, I've had the least amount of deaths in Crash 1. Probably due to killing myself over and over to make sure I didn't miss any crates. Crash 2 has definitely been the one I've "struggled" with the most thus far. Approaching the 3rd boss in each of the games so far.

Best wishes.

So I'm not very good at riding the ropes in High Road (and by extension Road to Nowhere) so I just attempted the level normally. I had to calm down once I reached the first checkpoint but it was mostly smooth sailing once I got there.

I love the bonus levels serving as an unofficial checkpoint. It made traversal somewhat bearable.

Just played a few levels of crash 2.

Jesus, this is a quantum leap in terms of being better than 1.

Already having way more fun.

YOOOOOOOOO you forget how much fun this game is!

We just spent an hour playing the last level on the first island, but it was an incredible feeling finally cracking those last 3 platforms.

Just reading this thread I think everyone forgot how trash the original game was, the levels were just not made for people to actually play them. And to think, 2 came out 1 year after the original.

Haven't even touched Crash 2 or Warped yet and already this is easily going on my GOTY list. Crash 1 plays so much better than the original.

Anyone know the 'trick' for Sunset Vista's time trial?

I got the platinum but worldwide #1 is ~30s faster! That's not just optimizing the run, that must be a shortcut or something. Any ideas?

Taking a second to post how much I love this collection! It's beautiful and plays great. Nostalgia through the roof. Just beat Native Fortress, and I owe you all a thank you for making it sound horrible. Made me feel special beating it without getting pissed.

Having just wrapped up a replay of Crash 1 before N.Sane, the change in physics/handling keeps tripping me up! I'm not saying it's worse here (I'm sure newcomers will probably enjoy the way N.Sane handles more than they would the original), but I'm so used to the way the original plays that I keep dying because I expect my jumps to have certain momentum. It's funny because there are a bunch of parts that I used to be terrible at (like the entirety of Toxic Waste) that I've completely breezed through on the first try, whereas simple jumps or levels that I found easy in the original (High Road) catch me off guard. It's great otherwise...loading times aside of course!

Good lord this game is cruel when you miss boxes.

I just played a level where I missed 50 boxes and watched poor Coco get pummeled so hard, she ended up knocked to the ground and laid there, just taking box after box to the face. I really don't like this aspect of Crash 1. These levels are very, VERY hard at times and getting through one only to be abused for missing some boxes along the way takes away from the victory of getting through the level.

Getting a little worried about the difficulty comments, I only played the trilogy for the first time on the PS3 a couple of years ago, completed all three games, I definitely remember there being a few stressful sections but overall not too bad, am I right in assuming that the remake has the same difficulty as the originals?

I know right? It's like "Fuck yeah I finally finished this level after 4 retries! Wait! Crash?! No! Leave Crash alone you goddamn boxes!!"

It's easier actually with extra health (a mask) if you die too much, saves after every level in the first Crash etc. You're not gonna have problems here, but that said it's still much harder than the typical modern AAA production.

Hold down X while they're falling.

Just finished Native Fortress, took about eight lives to beat. The shield enemy is really wonky and definitely needs to be patched. Bouncing on his head so he goes into the shield-over-head stance is wildly inconsistent especially compared to the original game. Often times I kind of just bounced to his side while the enemy remained unaffected, then he knocked me back with his shield. I can see why this level can be frustrating for some players.
But it wasn't hard.

Also the player's shadow need to be reworked to be more visible; they're hard to see, which makes judging jumps a pain. And I suspect there's some collision detection issues as well which caused me to miss the edge a few times on a couple levels.

I'm still having fun tho. I will say that the music in Crash 1 is generally a marked improvement. I think Crash 1's soundtrack was weak, and it sounds better here. The liberties they take with the tracks are mostly for a better although there were some minor flourishes in the original tracks that I missed in the remade versions.

Feels like it's easier to judge depth perception in levels like Temple Ruins, Generator Room, and Cortex Power. I was a little down on the soundtrack before release but I'm really enjoying all of the recreated tunes now.

The N.Brio bonus level in Heavy Machinery is insane. I can't believe I used to restart the level to try it again. That took a lot of tries.

The time trials in Crash 1 are quite difficult. My only Platinum is in Hog Wild. World Record has like 2.5 seconds on me and I really have no idea how to cut down time there.

Gotta git gud if you want to spare your furry orange friends.

edit:

Or... this? Didn't know that was a thing, lol

Watched a playthru of Road to Nowhere. It doesnt seem so hard, what's so hard about it? Seems like it needs a couple of playthrus, but nothing as hard as its made to be

People who got the game pinned down and dominated make it look easy, i mean, look at a speed run of any punch out game how they Perfectly KO all boxers and they'll make it seem like it's easy until you try it yourself.

It's just easy to miscalculate the jumps on these levels. There's some precise platforming. When I fuck up these levels I'm usually overthinking it. You have a certain control over the length of your jump/direction in the air that can play to your disadvantage especially in levels like this. The difficulty is raised in every level if you're trying to get all of the boxes too.

It's also not insanely hard, but easy to get frustrated and die in stupid ways when you're actually playing

I beat ripper roo in crash 2.

Ummm.....now what? Is something suppose to happen?

Go on the platform in the middle and press R1.

Edit: Ah, you figured it out. Truth be told, I expected to be teleported straight to the next warp room too, but there we go.

Ugh, I'm pretty sure there's a bug on the Ripper Roo stage in Crash 1.

When I try to jump from the middle platform to the middle-left platform, I consistently go diagonally upwards to the left instead of going straight left, which leaves me in the water. I thought it was my D-pad or maybe my input was wrong, but I had no problems jumping from the middle-right to the middle platform. I'm going to do some testing after I beat Roo.

I'm really into this game =|

Edit NVM it was just me fucking up on this dpad lol

Native Fortress is making me want to shoot someone.

I just don't get the jumping off these boxes. When am I supposed to be pressing X for the super jump? And half the time I legitimately feel like I'm clipping through them and falling down.

Just hold X before you hit the box. You don't need precise timing.

The clipping is probably the game, lol.

Just hold down X to get the highest jump, trying to time it will fuck it up

wow going for special gems in Crash 1 feels so much like playing Dark Soul where you desperately for a bonfire.

Holy Shit dude, Crash 1 doesn't fuck around. You better Git Gud if you want to 100%

It's all the more satisfying when you finally get that "BADABAAAAH!".

Ok, so in crash 2, what should I be doing? I don't know what the criteria is to 100% a level.

I know one is all crates and don't die.
Other is speedrun.

That it?

Also, where the hell are these secret crates? First level I'm missing 30. Wtf.

I actively tried looking. Can't find them.
