Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy |OT| N.Teresting and N.Tertaining N.Fographics With-N

Some things I didn't realise because I'm thick:

- All this time I've been jumping the lions in the Colosseum. It took a remaster for me to realise you can spin-attack them.
- The question mark crates and jumping up into crates until they stop releasing fruit is a direct lift from Mario.

Also Warped is still a masterpiece.

Can we change the definition of "cruelty" to just say "Native Fortress"? This is one bullshit level that's keeping me from getting past the first damn world. I'm gonna move to Crash 2 or 3 and come back because fuck that level.

I think there are problems with this collection. I have no problems on doing some section on the original Crash, while I have a lot of problems doing the same segment in the remastered.
It feels like there are some collision problems and input lag.

I think you're just used to the physics of Crash 1. Remember, they said they tweaked the physics to me more like Crash 2 and 3. Personally, I never got past the 6th or 7th level in the original Crash, but now I'm towards the end in the remake.

If it helps there's a much harder level like this later.

Also if it helps you can walk on the ropes.

I'm here too. Is there any reason not to cheese it and just walk on the ropes?

Got to that point in the game no problem with 30 lives and they disappeared trying to get through road to nowhere.
Got past it now. Totally lame that you basically have to cheese it with the ropes though. The thing just drags on for too damn long.

I gotta be honest, the controls and platforming in this are so abysmal and wonky, I kind of wish I saved the $40, and my nostalgia. :/

The game looks amazing. I just wish the controls were updated to match.

If Native Fortress is giving you this much trouble, I'd definitely consider dropping the game now. There are three stages later in Crash 1 (Road to Nowhere, Slippery Climb, and The High Road) that are orders of magnitude more frustrating. I'd actually consider them three of the most challenging platformer levels in history. I feel those three stages keep Crash 1 from being a great game.

I feel the same way. Crash 2 is the only one I've played so far (about 30 minutes), and I just don't think the game is very good. I'll probably just sell it. I bought it for $30 CDN so I can recover what I paid (and maybe even earn a profit) on Craigslist.

Just stick with it. Its tough but beatable. I did it last night. The thing is the more you die the more frustrated you get and the more irrational you get. Just take a deep breath, focus on your actions and get in the zone.

I basically bought a PS4 Pro for this game (mostly due to nostalgia) and playing through Crash 1 is like:

You turned into Hide the Pain Harold?

There is a pity checkpoint near the start. It's a regular box in a window ledge for the first few lives and then becomes a checkpoint after a few deaths.

After that there's a big gap bit there are more checkpoints.
Haha wow, I played at a friends place yesterday, and got absolutely crushed by this map. Today I played it at home and thought I was going crazy when the checkpoint didn't show up.

Crash 1 5th boss
How do you defeat Nitrus Brio when he's becomes muscled? There's some rock the falls down from the sky but I don't know what to do

I've no idea how time trials will be possible on Slippery Climb and The High Road. It took me around 50 lives just to get through them once.

Yep, I'm on Crash 2 also, and the controls are just absurd. Every jump has to land just perfectly, or it's death. Crash's jump is just barely long enough to cover most jumps if you time it perfectly. It's just not good, and beyond frustrating. And it's sad because Crash is one of my most nostalgic game series.

The game looks stunning, but the controls really should have been updated to match.

Timing jumps is even worse in Crash 1. It's maddening at times.

Can we talk about how good the Warp Room music is in Crash 2 and 3

Like damn

Yeah, I'm actually pretty impressed with this soundtrack in general. It's way better than I remembered.

If you slide and then jump you jump much further, and it makes it a lot easier.

I'm gonna come back to Crash 1 I think haha, High Road is doing my head in to the point that i'm making silly mistakes, now lets see what Crash 2 is like...

Less than 0.5s off a platinum bon Hog Wild. I know what is between me and it too. Fuuuu

Did you always have to hold X to double jump / high jump in the original instead of tapping X twice? Westing me out a little bit.

So I'm 90% complete with Crash 1, and as someone who's replayed the original games almost once a year since their release, I'd say this is a super faithful recreation.

N. Sane Trilogy doesn't feel exactly the same though, and I do think that the controls are a bit more challenging and finicky in this game. It feels like the jump timing really does have to be spot on, which I actually enjoy. Though I think the hit boxes on certain things, especially the turtles to bounce on in High Road and the bounce crates, are a bit too small. I think the original Crash Bandicoot was a little bit more forgiving for timing and I think Crash's jump was slightly more floaty.

I played a bit of Crash 2, and it's definitely interesting how they made the two games feel distinctly different just as they were originally.

How the hell do you jump over the three fire pits in Native Fortress? This has been like my sixth try of clearing this terrible level and I can never get past this point.

You need to get the timing perfect to get it in one go. You can also land on the wall in the background above the second flame to make things easier.

Got a lot further in crash 1, halfway through the third island and I'm enjoying the game a lot more. I actually really like that it's challenging and once I got tuned into the controls I can appreciate the game. If crash 2 and 3 are better then I'm in for a treat.

I got the Green Gem to max out on lives at Castle Machinery so I wouldn't get a game over during the fight against Cortex, only to not die on my first attempt afterwards.

I'll take it

Got to road to nowhere. Damn it's a hard level. Had to backtrack to get farm extra lives. Went to the Lost City and try for the Gem, get all boxes and no deaths, and was surprised how many extra lives you get from finishing the level. With both bonus around 10 live. If you only go as far as Nirtrus Brio bonus stage, easy 6 lives in about 5 minutes. Got to 99 in less than 1 hours.

LOL beat it. wasn't too bad. Let with 92 lives still. Gonna do the time trial now see if I can get good.

How do you replay a level and have it not be time attack? All the lives are replaced with other shit.

I cannot for the life of me get the clear gem for Turtle Woods, there is always one single box missing. I've tried twice now. Almost certainly me being an idiot.

There's a box above one of the turtles near the end of the level. I was stuck on this for a while too, just happened to see it out of the corner of my eye.

Finished Crash 1 and started 2 and yeah, exactly how I remembered it. Crash 2 is much easier and controls way better. Fuck Crash 1. I only got two gems the entire game and I already have like seven in Crash 2.

I just don't grab the clock when replaying the level. Yes all the lives are replaced but as I mention you want to go to the BONUS level, the lives in there don't change. Easy lives. You can quit right after the bonus level and keep the lives.

You're not. I want more modern games to be as challenging and I laugh at reviewers dropping points because the game was too hard for their enjoyment.

There's a difference between challenging and cheap. Crash 1 is a very cheap game. It's horribly balanced. Most reviewers don't dock games like Nioh or Dark Souls for their extreme challenge.

That being said, I still enjoy Crash 1 quite a bit.

I'm playing through Crash 1 with a Qanba Obsidian arcade stick and I'm amazed at how satisfying this is .Takes a little used to though but when you do it's a lot of fun!

Things they should work on ASAP:
  • Cut loading times by half is possible, it'd definitely improve the overall experience.
  • Add subtitles.
  • You can already restart a level when you go for Timed Trials, enable that option while you're on a regular run too so that you don't have to exit and reenter for Colored Gems.
