Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy |OT| N.Teresting and N.Tertaining N.Fographics With-N

There's a difference between challenging and cheap. Crash 1 is a very cheap game. It's horribly balanced. Most reviewers don't dock games like Nioh or Dark Souls for their extreme challenge.

That being said, I still enjoy Crash 1 quite a bit.

Some areas do feel cheap I agree. Not all of them.

Crash's wonky jumping doesn't help either.

I have yet to come to a level that feels cheap (granted I just beat road to nowhere, high road will be rough). But it feels like depth perception in crash 1 remake with analog controls is even worse than original. I always wanted analog controls there until I got them...

FUCK! Was about to get the Colored Gem from Lost City and a fucking chameleon made me bounce off, I was already close to finishing the level!

I think it's digital control even if you use the analogue stick. (I'd strongly recommend the d pad)

Use the Dpad.

Reading this thread is hilarious. I can't remember the last time a game produced so much frustration from its difficulty. I think most of us jumped into this game wanting to enjoy some nostalgia, and what we're actually getting is physically beaten to a pulp.

If they would have made Crash jump like 1 foot higher and farther, I feel most of the platforming issues would be solved.

These games are a lot easier than I remember.
I was gonna say that on this thread after I just beat Crash 1 in like 3-4 hours. I hardly remember ever beating this as a kid.

Then I saw the salt mountains in this thread.

Beating bad games like IWBTG and Boshy might've helped.

Just beat Crash 1. Not quite sure what to make of the experience. On the one hand, it is (mostly) a fun platformer, and I honestly didn't mind that it was balls hard. It was truthfully quite refreshing in this day and age to have a game so relentlessly pound my ass into the ground until I was willing to learn from my own mistakes and get better. However, I didn't always feel like deaths were my fault, which is my problem with the game.

The controls just aren't precise enough (even with the almighty D-pad) to perform some of the ultra precise, frame perfect jumps this game asks you to do, and there are many obstacles in levels that just seem to come out of nowhere, almost forcing you to replay a level over and over until you've memorized it, which can feel cheap at times. This is especially frustrating since limited lives can prevent you from continuing at checkpoints indefinitely. Also, I'm not sure if this is specific to this collection or not, but some of the physics and collison detection seemed really messed up. I died many times from objects and attacks that were beneath or above me, and generally a fair distance from me. The turtle jumping mechanics in those awful bridge levels are also really poor, and I found myself unable to consistently make jumps (yes, I know to just hold down X after jumping) as Crash just sometimes wouldn't go far enough, no matter what I did.

TL:DR, I'm pretty mixed on this one, y'all. On the one hand, there's nothing else quite like it on PS4 right now, and it's a fun, refreshingly challenging experience. On the hand, it can also be some straight up cheap, infuriating bullshit, and it also feels a tad clunky to control. There are also few games that can make me rage and yell at my screen nowadays, but Crash 1's High Road... Overall, 7/10. Would rage again.

Lol, the exact same thing happened to me a few minutes ago. I believe the only way to defeat them is by jumping on them. I tried to spin and kill one, but I just bounced backwards into the abyss, haha. It was right at the end of the level too, with only three boxes to go...

Yeah, forgot to mention this. The way some of these camera angles are positioned can make depth perception a major issue in specific situations. Focusing on your shadow can alleviate this, but it's also pretty difficult to do that and focus on what's ahead of you.
Slippery Climb was actually fun for me, but the High Road and Road to Nowhere can die in a fire.
+1

Getting those colored gems is hell.
I'm trying desperately to get the one in Slippery Climb, but to no avail.
I used up all my patience getting the ones in the previous levels and finishing High Road without using the rope trick.
I'm all tapped out mentally for today and even coffee won't help me concentrate. Tomorrow's a new day and maybe, just maybe I'll finish Slippery Climb without losing a life.
Otherwise I might just finish the game and go to Crash 2...

Holy shit...

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy - Possible Spyro Demo Code?

From the description:

If you enter Up, Up, Down, Down on the Crash Bandicoot Warped game file. The Cursor disappears.

This only happens for Crash Bandicoot Warped, it does not happen to Crash Bandicoot or Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back.

The Spyro Demo Code in the PSX Crash Bandicoot Warped is Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square,

Following Up, Up, Down, Down with Left, Right, Left, Right, the cursor is still gone. I hit Square... but that just loads up the License for the game. And the Cursor returns over Warped. Similarly it isn't Circle, X or Triangle...

L3, R3, Options, The Touchpad, and all the Shoulder Buttons don't make the cursor appear, so maybe it's related to them? The Mystery Begins...

Happening?

It sucks but I finally got it, time to try Generator Room now, I'm scared of the platforming in this level because depth perception can be really tricky here.

Woah, factory levels' colors look great, make for a nice change up. Hope that's a good Omen for what's still to come.

I definitely love being able to switch between D-Pad and Analog. They each work better in different situations for me.

Things they should work on ASAP:
  • Cut loading times by half is possible, it'd definitely improve the overall experience.
  • Add subtitles.
  • You can already restart a level when you go for Timed Trials, enable that option while you're on a regular run too so that you don't have to exit and reenter for Colored Gems.

Yup, these are my only nitpicks with this collection

The Spyro code is definitely *in* the game, it just doesn't do a fucking thing currently.

Interestingly, the position it places your cursor is two to the right of Warped...

When has a base game's platinum ever been tied to DLC?

Never, that's why i thought there was going to be a dlc for crash 1.

After several hours of doing the time trial on Sunset Vista, this happened: https://youtu.be/owciT2TwlG0

I wanted to cry.

(I kill the final lizard in mid air, but when I land his knockback triggers forcing Crash to run off the ledge.)

An hour later I finally beat it. Turns out the pace I was aiming for was a full 30+ seconds faster than the time needed for platinum. Whoops.

anybody get stuck on Crash 2 when Cortex said he will return after 5 crystals? Got 5 crystals and beat Ripper Roo and nothing happens/unlocks....

I did too. You have to stand on the platform and hit the button that it shows. It would have been nice if the game told you that before hand, in some fashion.

I have two issues with these remakes.

1. The load times are pretty garbage.
2. The new lighting, while it looks great, it's a huge issues for me becase a lot of the time it makes it difficult to see your shadow. Perhaps it's my own fault for depending on it too much, but it was quite visible in the original for a reason.

With all the Dark Souls jokes going around on Twitter I'm waiting to see fanart of Crash wearing Dark Souls armour or Bloodborne garbs.
