Finally, I can crouch and slide jump

Yeah, there are some wonky hitboxes. But the ice physics seem kinda fucked up too, it's really thrown me off.

I'm also calling bullshit on the porcupines being unkillable with their spines up :V
The new ice physics keep throwing me off too. I miss stopping in front of a crate, jumping and being thrown forward!

Without a doubt. So much content lovingly recreated with tender and care, I'm enjoying this more than any other release so far this year.

Yeah, aside from some long load times, and to a lesser extent 30fps game-play, they really nailed the project. (I can't bitch too much about the lack of 60fps, as the original was 30.)

I'd like to see more "retrofit" projects done in this way.

That seems more like a bug that needs to be patched.

Gonna go ahead and say that maybe the first game didn't need relics.
Most of the levels kind of suck.

The platforming in crash 3 is so fucking good that i dont even know if im able to do the rest of the relics in 1.

Like native fortress sets the tone for the entirety of 1. Frustrating long ass levels with questionable hit detection on enemies.

Got the platinum trophy for Crash 1. Maaaan, I spent a really, really long time getting the Relic in The High Road. Embarrassing to say how many hours, lol. I eventually gave up on doing extended rope runs and used it for quick hops instead. For whatever reason I can do that consistently

Crash 2 feels immediately different than 1. WOWOWOW

I've 100%ed Crash 2 now (just need the Relics), and it was a far more enjoyable experience than Crash 1, even if the stage environments aren't as varied. The level design really got a lot better here, and I appreciated the secrets I had to find (like the one I completely accidentally triggered by
touching the polar bear in... Un-Bearable, I think. What was his name again?
).

Only blemish would be those three particular stages (Diggin' It, Cold Hard Crash, and Piston It Away) that force you to bizarrely backtrack in order to get all of the boxes. Considering that all three rely on using the Death Platform, it was not fun having to quit so often whenever I died, even if the level design itself was still pretty good.

Even though I found Crash 2 to be much easier than Crash 1, I still only ended with ~30 lives compared to the ~90 I had in the first game. I guess the developers got a lot more conservative with lives now that they knew they made an easier game.

The Lab is the hardest if you're going for the platinum. If you're only going for golds then I'd say The High Road is the hardest.

I figured as much. I actually managed to get a gold on high road and the lab tonight. I'll definitely settle for that for now. I was doubting high road for a while there.Took me at least a hundred tries to nail down the long jumps and quick hops off of the side ropes.

Ripper Roo is so much easier to beat if you switch to the D-Pad instead of the analog controls. The analog leaves too much margin for error, died so many times down to having the angle of the jump a fraction off.

Overall though, VV has done a magnificent job here. It's old Crash with Ratchet level graphics, and that's perfectly fine to me :)

Man, this "play through a level and break all boxes without dying" level are completely bullshit without the option to restart a level. What a major flaw. If you hit a checkpoint, restart the whole fucking game.

They have to patch this ASAP!

69% in warped (lennyface) and now I remember again why crash 2 was better. It didn't forced you to speedrun gimmick levels for completion.

You can leave the level by pressing start and quit. Not the best solution but at least better than restarting the game ;)

So I thought I was pretty cool on my few time trial exploits so far, I was like "yeeeaaaah platinum baby" on a whole two stages.
See when you look up the default time to beat in Crash 1 it shows a bold blue relic only so I figure "yeah that must be super stylised colour choice for Platinum" which is often represented as something of a light blue when stacked alongside bronze, silver and gold.

So I take down the first bridge stage like "yep, done with this", then I look at the overall times....
oh no, OH NO, that's not a overly blue platinum! that's just a stinkin'...cobalt? who the fuck awards cobalt for the third place?! then the actual platinum looks very much like silver just to confuse me more as I desperately go into denial but the numbers don't lie.

So it turns out I done goofed and all of a sudden my idea of getting the platinum trophy in Crash 1 is drifting further and further away.
I just spent an hour trying to do the high road in time trial, when I eventually beat the stage I got...nothing.

I'm just gonna go cry then.
LOL, this is great. Someone a few pages ago (might have been you not sure) said they got the platinum in The Lab on their first attempt and I just remember thinking "are you sure it wasn't sapphire?" :P

This game brings me to a sad realization

PlayStation All-Stars could've happened after Sony and Acti had already partnered for Crash...not before

Game would've got a massive sales boost
I'm hoping they'll do some kind of PlayStation kart racer. A "spiritual sequel" to CTR (lift the tracks/mechanics) but with the amount of content you'd expect from a Mario Kart game.

I finished Crash 1 with all the gems and enjoyed it to death, but does the game seem blurry in motion for anyone else? The IQ is magnificent when I'm standing still, but (on "2D" stages) the second I start moving and focusing on the character, everything kind of slurs together to the point where it started to hurt my eyes a bit. This was most prevalent on The Lost City but appeared in a number of other stages. I think it's more than just motion blur, as I've never had a problem with it before. I haven't played 2 or 3, so I don't know if what I'm talking about persists to those.
I noticed the same thing, and it doesn't usually bother me either. Hope I'm not becoming more sensitive to frame rate, ignorance is bliss -.-

Seems to be limited to Crash 1 fortunately. Crash 2 looks a whole console generation ahead.

I'd just like to point out that Activision of all companies just put out one of the best platformers of the year.
Probably the first time that's happened since... the last time they released these games :p

With pressing start and quit, you go back to the main menu where you choose which game you want to play, it basically is restarting the game.

Crash 1 beaten. Only got 6 silver gems and a yellow gem. Don't think I have the patience to go for a perfect run. On to Crash 2!

It's funny how most of my memories of all three games are from either the first few levels of Crash 1 or the snow levels in 2. Some stuff I didn't remember at all.

Either we are misunderstanding each other or you are encountering a bug, cos that always just put me back on the hub world.

Does anyone have any tips for platinum on Cold Hard Crash (crash 2) ? I thought I had a great run but my time is off by like 20 seconds, very unusual.

I've not tried it yet, but would the Death Route not be quicker than the normal route?

What's the quickest method of travel on Crash 2: is it just the sprint, or are there any tricks? Slide spinning doesn't seem to work well on this version, nor does moving diagonally during a jump to cover not distance.

A friend took this pic

I thought fake Crash was only in Warped.

The higher ups at Vicarious Visions seem to just fucking LOVE Fake Crash. He's been a major part of all their original Crash games except for The Huge Adventure. They even managed to stuff him in the Spyro crossover. He's the main villain of the Skylanders Crash expansion, as well. If he was JUST in Warped, I'd be organizing a campaign to make calls to VV asking them if they're okay or need help.

Welp I don't think I'll be getting the plat in Crash 1. Crash 2 and 3 though, I'm coming for you!

Also, this remake/remaster or whatever you want to call it, is making me realise how bad my reactions are these days compared to back then.

Just platted Crash 1. Definitely one of the harder platinum trophies I've gotten in a while. Buyer beware.

Excellent game. Aside from some unimaginative boss battles (Ripper Roo was pretty much the only creative one), it's pretty close to what I consider platforming perfection: simple controls, hard levels, and lots of precise jumping. I like the game a lot more than I remember of my time with the original... probably because of that save system.

Fuck the hitboxes on the fire and those dudes with the shields that push you though.

I liked it until the fake TNT reaction

I don't think I won't do it either.

I really really wanted to do it, but now where I play this game and see and feel how ridiculous hard it is to get it, specially with all the "no dying all boxes" re run of old levels.
I think I won't even try to replay the old levels anymore and just beat them once until I finished the game and go straight to 2.

Sorry Crash 1, I tried it, I really really tried it.

Never cared much for Crash (if anything at all), but I bought into the hype and got my copy today. I'm ready to be blown away by the best platformer of the year so far!

Edit: It seems I've been playing too many easy-mode platformers, because this game is kicking my ass. I really need to git gud! The Dark Souls of platformers indeed.

Finding this game turned out to be the most frustrating thing I've done in many months. On the phone so can't rant too long but long story short; spent an entire day calling and running to different stores to find one.

All of this btw AFTER getting an email 2 days after release saying that they couldn't deliver my preorder because they're out of stock. Why would these fucktard idiots even send me this email 2 days after release and not on Friday when it was due to be sent?

Oh and one store has a copy of it, I call them and they tell me this. I spend my fucking lunch break to quickly grab it and when I get there it's not there. "But the data base says there's one".

What a fucking disasterpiece. They had no idea what they were doing and no one belived in the product, hence why they've delivered the total amass of 50 copies in Sweden.

Dumb fucks.

I've mixed feelings about Warped.. it was the one I was looking forward to going back to, and when you're in a platforming stage it's a lot of fun, but it feels like every other level has you on a motorbike, or a jet ski or fighter plane.. they're not terrible stages but they feel a bit a redundant and aren't what I want to be doing in the game.

I'll go back for gems and stuff later, but I've parked it for now and gone to the original Crash and yeah, that's more like it, just straightforward platforming challenges. The stages are long and often tough as nails but satisfying to beat, plus you get more of a feel for Crash's jump distance because you really need to on stages like Road to Nowhere. Nothing in Warped was that demanding. It's gone down in my estimation but Crash has gone way up, loving it.

That's always been my problem with 3.
It has some of the coolest platforming sections of the entire series, but it's pacing is horrible. It's like if every other level of Mario Galaxy was either that ball rolling or grab star in space minigame.

Yup. I don't have much affinity with the first one anyway as I only played the first few levels back in the day. It was Crash 2 and 3 that I 100% back in the day and I WILL 100% them again lol. But yeah, Crash 1 can fuck right off.

For whatever reason, Traveler's Tales took many notes from Warped's book and made like half the levels something other than raw platforming in Wrath of Cortex. One of my many issues with that game too.

The time trials in the final two Arabian levels of Crash 3 are kicking my ass. It's not even like they're tough times to beat, it's mainly cause there's so many chances to mess up and ruin your run. Even getting gold is a nightmare for them.

I played a lot of Crash 1 yesterday and i had fun (currently at the generator room). Having never played the original games, the remaster surpassed my expectations (and apparently Crash 2 and 3 are even better). I'm surprised such an old game is still so much fun to play.

I spent a lot of time on Road to Nowhere but it felt nice to be able to finally complete it. It was probably my favourite level so far. I knew i just had to get better to get to the finish and i did.

I paid 36 € for this collection and that's a bargain for what appears to be 3 solid and nicely crafted remasters. I'm glad this thing exists and that i can play these games. I'm looking forward to continue playing.

Sorry to hear that. Not surprised retailers here ordered too few copies, they probably were on some of that "no one cares about Crash" juice too.

I guess you don't want to go digital?

Starting to cool of now... I was really mad there.

Yeah, I can't do digital :/

Have you tried Media Markt, Elgiganten or other similar stores? Maybe I got lucky finding my copy.

Yeah, one of the stores I mentioned was Elgiganten :/

I've seen a video of some one getting platinum relic in the first water level at 1:09 seconds

I beat the level around 5 seconds earlier and only got gold :/
