Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker announced as the 13th Doctor!

When is it coming back to Netflix? I stopped watching the last 1-2 Capaldi seasons because I was getting bored.

Karl Pilkington companion plz

I'm thinking she's going to have 2 companions, one male and one female to ease the fanbase into the idea, with the female companion being killed off/leaving after the first season so that the status quo changes, but not too suddenly

Please be a brother and sister. I've been dying for that dynamic in the TARDIS forever.

I hope they keep Michelle Gomez on now.

A young female Doctor and an old female Master could have an interesting dynamic.

Probably not for a long while since the BBC signed deals with different streaming services, unfortunately.

For the US/UK it is on Amazon Prime and for Canada it's on CraveTV (which completely sucks, I would rather it on Prime now that we have it).

Missy's character arc is pretty much completed.
She chooses to side with the Doctor after betraying her past self.

And no one really wants her to become overdone like River. The misses and the ex.

Why didn't you both want a female doctor?

For me I just like the idea of the doctor as a male with a female companion, I sssociate with it and enjoy how it plays out. Switching it up will mean I'll probably be trying to associate with the companion now instead and that's going to be extremely weird for me as I have the doctor as a male in my head, so now I'll associate the character as male but being played by a female. It'll be fine though, I'm sure I'll enjoy it after awhile, like I do all knew doctors.

But my wife, she likes the playfulness and sexiness of the doctor, she liked the 9th, she loved Tennant, didn't like Smith (because of his plots) but enjoyed him as an actor. She strongly disliked the 12th and was already thinking of stopping watching the show, and has no interest in seeing a female lead play the doctor. She partically feels it feels very forced, but otherwise just doesn't care for the role swap.

I know these things but I don't know why that means no one in all of America, a giant exporter of quality entertainment (and, sure, lots of absolute shit), could do anything good on it. Especially when the specific named entity had no involvement.

American involvement specifically with the Who universe has been a fucking trainwreck twice already.
Expanding "reworking British shows" out further and you have lowlights like Red Dwarf, the IT Crowd, Life On Mars, the already mentioned in this thread Broadchurch...

There's plenty of good American shows, America just has the fecal touch when it comes to reimagining British properties, outside of a couple of exceptions.

Are they going to have to update the sonic screwdriver?

Capaldi had the sunglasses. We're ALREADY leaning less into phallic extension territory!

This is a joke

As long as the show doesn't become about the fact that the Doctor is a woman, I'm fine with it. Just have the Doctor carry on as if it's business as usual.

Omg yes please

The fact that this is even a concern for some people is just absolutely ridiculous.

Yes the show will now revolve around the doctor shopping all over the universe in search for the special time lipstick.

For fucks sake.

There was a time this wasn't true.

Ew. Gracepoint was so blahhhhhh. And the twist they did at the end to change if from Broadchurch was just terrible.

How did they change the ending? Can you spoil it for me please?

The kid did it and the father was covering for him. Though he was having the same innapropriate relationship with the kid, IIRC. This is all revealed to the audience and Anna Gunn's character (Olivia's Colemans character) at the very end.

It was dreadful.

I've never seen a single episode of Doctor Who. I know it's like 50 years old, but where can a new comer start?

I'm from the US so what streaming service has this and is BBC America the only channel that will have the new episodes?

The 2005 series with the Ninth. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Reading the Daily Mail comments means I won't have to buy any more salt for at least a year. Think I'll make some salt beef first to mark such a special occasion.

On a side not, their website is fucking horrible. Makes my local newspaper's website look like the pinnacle of web design.

Yeah, the first series in the "reboot" with Christopher Eccleston is fine. Whilst the old series has its moments it is so incredibly dated by now that, for most, it's best to stick with the new. If you fall in love with the series go back and watch a few episodes of the old but don't start with it.

Start with series 1 (2005)

Thanks guys, the 2005 series it is then.

You can get pretty much all currently available classic Who on Britbox.

You can get most of new Who (in the US) via Amazon Prime.

The most current Xmas special and season are currently only sold separately (not part of the streaming sub).

BBC America broadcasts new Who in the US.

Ignore the millennials and their fear of anything old. :P

Classic Who rocks just as much as new Who (and they're all in the same continuity).

To the people saying Doctor Who is streaming on Amazon Prime: can anyone actually confirm this? Every time I look it asks me to buy the episodes, I've got Prime though.

I just want to watch Heaven Sent 😩

Edit: oh appears to be US only?

Seen all/most of the available classic Who. Good if even more inconsistent, but people are just recommending the 2005 series because it's a good bridging point (for millennials). The Ninth in particular carries on the behavioral traits of some of the old Doctors.

I sort of dislike the weird electricity effect they used, but yeah, not gonna read into that. But I'd hate for it to become a thing lol

Didn’t Smith’s New key materialize in his pocket after he put on his new outfit? Not totally outta the ordinary.
